Mid week trip out wide off broken bay grabbed a dozen yakkas of west reef some huge and some tiny no medium sized baits or slimeys, headed to the fads alot of smaller fish and the bite wasnt hot water temp was 21.8 in the morning at the fad so headed wide to the bb shelf.

Few birds on the shelf no bait set the lures and headed to a very small bit of  structure on the shelf line and it was pushing up some cooler water fish popped the otrigger clip after 40 mins of trolling may have been a bigger dolphin fish didnt get a look at it. Another hour passed and second hookup saw the take was a marlin in the 60kg to 80kg range not sure if it was a stripe or blue just saw the head swipe the lure and no jumps after setting the hook. Cleared the deck and the hooks pulled shortly after.

Lures back out working the same area 1.5 hours later another hookup this was a bigger striped marlin around 80kg got the deck cleared and settled into a 2 hour fight. Got it on the leader and popped the hooks out and swam away happy.

On the way in not a boat on the fads and it was on fire! The water temp jumped to 24 degrees and the bigger dollies were on! Kept 4 all over 95cm biggest was 100cm in 40 mins and sent it for home.

Warmest water temp for the day 24.5

Edit: this was a solo trip. Solo marlin fishing is definately tough especially trolling a spread.

Before comments questioning sanity i put alot of time and effort in keeping my boat motor and equipment all in perfect order. Anyone attempting solo offshore fishing should be doing checks before heading out like i do some of which are checking hull for damage and leaks adding water to the bilge while on the trailer will show if any. Engine checks, pump checks, battery test, check battery cables for warmth, radio checks, fuel system checks, safety equipmet checks, carry tools and spares. Always go out on a full tank of fuel i carry 150l which is enough for me to do this trip twice. Know your boat and its ability. Know your engine and its consumption characteristics.
