juicy233 Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Ever since I had landed a kingfish off a boat mid winter I have been very eager to try get one land based with lures and have spent about 5-6 sessions fishing various different spots around dobroyd head in hopes of hooking one. I've hooked a few nice tailor 40-50cm and one 63cm salmon but am yet to see a kingfish. I know the fish are in the spots I'm fishing as I always try to fish sharp drop offs when the tide is pushing against the drop off. I guess I'm just wondering whether I should keep trying a new spot every session or should I just stick to 1 spot and properly put in the time at that one spot to learn it. If anyone's got any tips on whether to keep changing up spots or to stick with one it'd be much appreciated Also does anyone know anything about fishing Crater cove land based, on paper it looked amazing with 'the trench' that runs parallel to the northern shoreline being within casting distance from the shore however I made the long walk down yesterday and found it quite a difficult spot to fish due to the shallow kelp and seaweed that crowds around the shoreline. Cheers 🤙

Ryder Posted November 18 Posted November 18 Crater Cove is very rough country. If you do manage to hook one I doubt you’d land it there is just too much reef. I know a spot not far away, I’ll send a PM. 3

devoker Posted November 19 Posted November 19 (edited) It is mostly being lucky to be in the right spot at the right time. They probably cruise between bays everyday. We saw a school of 6-7 kingfish in the harbour, they got hooked on squid (not live) but busted off while the others were baiting live yakkas right next to them, but they left very quickly after 5 minutes. Either you can wait all day in the same area or you can keep changing locations every hour, if you are not lucky you won't come across them. Even if you wait all day they might be picky with the bait. Edited November 19 by devoker 1
