Had an early start and caught up with Raider legend @blaxland. Hadn’t seen Bill for quite a while and we exchanged game plan “Head out to the FAD’s - clean up on Dollie’s”.

Unfortunately the big Dollie’s from a few weeks back had moved off the marks (taking the shearwater / mutton birds with them), but the swarms of rat kings were in big numbers and we boated 31- all under 62cm, but none under 50, so good fun on light gear.

They were taking live (small Yakkas) and strips of slimies, which were in good numbers off Middle Head, George’s and Quarantine.

It was good to see Bill hook and land a really nice  Dollie - one of the best eating fish in the sea, having said this, a few we got a few weeks back had Kudoa parasite (mushy flesh), but none this week?

We Stopped at 30m on the way back to North Head and cleaned up on flatties, keeping 18 between the 3 of us, but catching 50plus fish ( many not legal), also boated 2 really big flounder (or Sole - I don’t know the difference).

Overall a great day on the water, but spent almost as much time cleaning the catch as actually catching.

OMG - Where's Big Neil - He LOVES Dollies and Flatties (BN I have some saved for you). I did not know about Kudoa parasite (mushy flesh) - always thought it was caused by poorly kept fish - no ice etc etc.

Good to see that you are still getting stuck into numerous species on your trips out wide Bob.

Can you explain how the parasite's impact on the flesh (mushy?) is recognised? Where is the parasite located (on or in) the host species? Does this parasite impact on other fish species or just Dollies. Sounds like the parasite is the ruination of some good quality sea food.

Cheers, bn

Not been out on the water for quite a few months. Playing too much golf and riding around on my new toy. I really should make the effort to get out somewhere. 🙂

Niiiice - ride safe Gordo. (I had a FX Lowrider 1275 in maroon and black - loved it) Understand why you haven’t been fishing - not sure what sounds nicer, the scream f the reel or opening up in 3rd gear going through a tunnel.

Some nice fish there Bob, and one of the flounder looks a large size.

A good day out with the boys, plenty of fish to be caught.
