@DerekD organised an early morning session at Manly Dam to see if he could put a few of us (including @Devoika and @BennyG78) onto some bass and maybe also Redfin. I am ashamed to say that it was the first time I had ever been there despite living only 30 minutes drive away on the Sydney North Shore for almost 30 years. It is a beautiful location and the morning was certainly worthy of it .

After a brief instructional  talk from  Derek about the lures we would be using (a cicada top water lure and Celta spinners) wed spread out and started peppering the water.  My own effort was pretty mediocre with only 1 small bass - but it was my first ever and so it made my morning.

All up the group was well into double figures for the morning session - but that was mostly due to BennyG's efforts. I think he is a fish magnet! The best fish of the morning was  27cm - caught by Devoker's wife . A newbie to fishing but someone who is going to be worth watching in the future.

Thanks gain to DerekD for organising this session and giving up so much of his fishing time to help others

I find the bass in manly dam really really like bread for some reason. Especially the small ones

Well mine was certainly what I would call small ,so it would have been a prime bread candidate.

Nice work Robbo! I’ve got to get onto this bass bandwagon but I’m too preoccupied with these luderick at present 🤣

I know of a YouTuber that has been getting some nice EP’s out of the parra river lately  - not a bass but not far off !

Great to see fellow fishradiers offering practical advice and backing it up with actual hands on demonstrations.

It is one of the great things about Fishraider and the people on here

An enjoyable read of your Manly Dam visit with Derek and the others. HOWEVER, there is no such thing as a " brief instructional talk" when Derek is the orator. He would have covered ALL the bases so you guys and gals could maximise your results, which you appear to have done. Looks like you have found a gem of a place to catch some different species Rob. Good on you all, that's what Fishraider is all about.

Tight lines, bn

Yes Derek is certainly great on sharing the details to help others get started or improve on what they know. A chance meeting seeing him tutoring someone at McMahon's Point ferry wharf has grown in to a great friendship. Certainly not the first time that has happened with Fishraider members!

Sure do Derek. You even answer the questions that your "students" hadn't thought to ask. Such passion toward improving their capabilities.

A couple more sleeps then back into my Cod fishing...
