  1. i actually fished right after it rained heavily and we caught heaps of fish that night, fishes were biting hard, but most of them were under sized ones, only half were for keeps but i could be lucky

  2. mainly targeting breams, flatties, anything thats big and eatable i guess lol.. how does the lures work where u shine a torch on them and it glows? never heard of those before hehe

know where to buy the lures? went to a few tackle shops, none had any glow in the dark ones, also tried lookin for the popular eco gear sx40 for breams, but no shop had any ecogear lures...any suggestion guys? im in syd

  3. Hi guys, parents bought couple frozen leather jacks from the markets and they taste greate, the meat just falls off the bones,.. been fishing a while but i never caught any of them fishes before? anyone know whats a good place to catch these fishes? and what baits to use? btw im landbased, no boat hehe,... :1fishing1:

  4. anyone been fishing late at night these past few weeks? Have you guys catch anything? Been fishing before the tide turn in and the run out tide, in couple different places, but its been so cold, and havnt caught any fish at all, besides unsized ones where we throw back? are all the fishes asleep in these cold nights? I mean late at night around 10pm to liek 3-4am, havent caught anything decent these past few days, am i just having bad luck or there is very less fish activity on cold nights ?

  5. not sure about the actual measurements, i would say its the length of a average car but abit shorter, im guessing a normal average size tinnie, its them hard plastic fibreglass tinnies, not alumnium, so its not that heavy, i can lift up one end of it with one hand, so loading it on a roof with 2-3 people is no problems, i say its anywhere between 50-70kg, Im guessing the option is to put it on my roof rack?

  6. Hey guys, got me self one of those fibreglass dingys for free, and would like to take it out some times to fish. Just wondering what is the best or cheapest way to get it on the road? I only have a normal Toyota sedan car with no tow bar, Would it be safe to get racks installed on my car and tie the dingy on my car roof? is that safe? or would it be better to get a trailer and tow bar installed on my car? Getting the towbar plus harness and trailer seems pretty expensive, I am only a student, so i don't really work, any suggestions raiders?

    Thanks :1prop:

  7. Hi guys, just a quick simple question, fishing off wharfs...etc, do you guys use floaties when fishing for jews or any big fish? Would just a small sinker that would get the bait down do the job? or is it always best to have a floatie holding the bait up?

    Cheers,

  8. Hey mate - try using whole squid caught locally. I have met a lot of people in my ventures fishing with me. I have seen people throw out live fish, octupus, fish market squid and pilchards. I have only seen 1 guy catch a fish on a pilchard 5 years ago. I keep using whole freshly caught local squid. Jew cannot resist. This is my prefered bait in the night. During the day I prefer using live tailor, yellowtail or hearing. The fish still feed in the day. Butterflying these fish is also a great bait.

I do not mind fishing from any warf or headland. It is all about timing - jew are like clockwork - they will feed at a certain time, as that is when they will come out of there hidy holes and wander around warfs to feed. I limit my fishing to 2 hours.

Someone wrote something about 80 pound line. You do not need to go that heavy for jew. 20 pound main line plus 50 pound fluoro trace is fine. Jew are very easy to stop. I have never had a jew on for more that 5 minutes and have caught them over the 20kg mark on occasions.

Location - cannot reveal - no offence to all but i have had nights where I have driven around for 2 hours only to find that I cannot fish anywhere as every spot I fish is packed with people. I do not own the spots, but I cannot stand too much noise and swearing and people casting over me, which I have experienced fishing in a packed spot. I fish to relax not to be anxious cause people get in my way. Fish are just a bonus. Not accusing anyone on fishraider for being like that also.

Plus both nights I fished I found rubbish left behind at all spots. I was sickened by people's laziness to p/up there own trash. Could just imagine what these peoples homes look like.

    Regards Jim

wow jim, you gave me so much useful information on fishing.

JIM you are my FishRaider IDOL

So jewfishs cant resist the taste of live bait. I doubt i'l be able to catch some live squid. Might have to go to a live fish bait shop for some fresh squids. That will do the trick i hope. I've had servo prawns, peeled the prawns and had much luck catching flatheads, breams, silvertails and hearings. Do you keep them alive as bait or just fresh as u can?

Well planning to go catch some jew fish this sunday since its the new moon. Tide readings show high tide at 9pm with 1.8m water level. High tides levels, fishing with fresh bait and new moon forecast, this would be a great fishing element right?

Your fishing location cannot be reveal? of cause of cause. We all hate to fish where there is a lot of people, lines get tangled up, and people just scaring the fish away. Everybody likes to have their own sacred fishing spot.

Your discretion in not revealing the location of your fishing hole has made me more determined in catching a big fish now. Cant contain my excitement in going fishing this sunday night. Just hope it doesn't rain.

thanks for your advice, if i catch anything i'l let you know. I'l make a post about my glorious catch.

i've even got a title for it.. " 1 Man, 1 Rod, and 1 JEWFISH"

cant wait can wait.. getting so desperate for that jewfish i just might have to google earth your secret location now =)

    Peace and no harm intended.

  9. I notice that alot of people when they catch the fish, they kill it straight away and leave it in the bucket to keep it fresh? What do normally people do? I usually just leave it in the bucket in water and it just dies by the time i get it home. BUt the fish becomes so stiff. Whats the best way to cut it or to keep it fresh? sorry for the noob question, as I just started getting into fishing, and its great fun :1fishing1:
  10. how do you guys do this. i meant having a big catch like a massive jewfish.

i've started fishing for a month now. but still no catch, only little fishies.

lane cove river? i've been there a couple of times, no luck. fished at linley point but only small puffer fish.

really get motivated about fishing after reading your posts, but different story when your out there with a rod when there is no bites at all.

could you tell me where the this lane cove wharf is, so maybe i can try my luck.

    thanks.
