  1. 8th jan

been waiting for this rain to stop for a fish on the hobie.

it was a sunny day with only a few clouds here and there, thankfully its a full run out in the morning with dirty water.

launched at connells point in the morning and peddled straight to a few spots i've had success in the past.

all fish caught casting chubbies towards structure 0.4 - 2m in depth released about 10 more and got bricked by one big bream.

biggest flathead going 66 and bream going 38 WHICH had a chubby inhaled with bib and trebles crushed. A first for me to see a whole chubby inside a bream's mouth as they usually hit the tail.

total damage was 2 chubbies costing $40 Drogar-Cry(LBG).gif

it was a glorious day. it is rare to have fish after cast after cast and enough to feed 3 families.

  2. Nice work, this is how it starts.

Are you making any lures or other bits and pieces?

not really mate, unless you count colouring in your lures with permanent markers/ nail polish... lol

ZX's are great - Do you use two different size hooks as per the original set up when making up your replacements. Sure beats forking out $12 for a pack of two.

    Cheers Blood Knot

nah i stick to the size 8, slightly a bit bigger, better hookups.

  3. i love casting ZX for flatties and under schools of tailor for scavenger fish... one of my best sessions was on casting ZX40 underneath a school of small tailor.

after a bit of researching i started to make my own assist hooks.

palomar knot to the split ring
20lb braid, coloured with red marker

1 turn uni knot can be used for the feelers to the split ring, as well as the legs.

  4. its been ages since i thought there would be something to mention.

but the bay is definitely getting better.

still really hard work to find the fish but once you do it pays off. had two donut sess, once at oyster bay, and once at towra. I think we need some rain the dirty the water

Kurnell still hit and miss, one sess was fantastic landing a 51cm trevor. while other times, stinky salmon and a few bream.

Wooloware bay is a hit and miss too, sometimes the bream is near the racks while other times near the mangroves.

Towra is still pretty poor, once the sun comes up. Pikes and tons of small snappers on one session, only once have i landed a mix bag with a 49cm trevor on a SX48 which was great fun on the shallows.

Hard bodies are the go these days, blades and HB near shallow water.

  5. hey pmak,

im keen to try some surface fishing,

were you fishing the flats on the eastern side of towra point towards kurnell or the western side kind of towards carters island/wooloware?

wouldn't mind seeing my fish smash the lure of the surface thats for sure :)

  6. its been a while since i've hit the bay, it was quiet for a long long time.

great weather last weekend and me and my mate john had a go at towra.

i must have done about few hundred casts for a few fish.

all fish on blades VX and ZX.

my friend gave up casting and kept trolling for zero.

i ended up with 2 good flatheads a huge pike and a trevor.

i felt sorry for my mate and gave him the smaller flathead for dinner, he wasn't going to say no.

lets all hope it gets better!
