  1. Hey Musty....Looks like a Blufer to me ..and a nice one as well!! What say you?? CHEERS Tom the Yank
  2. RAIDERS, Red tides occur naturally usually during warmer months and according to water temp changes....(higher temps). The micro-organisms that occur eat oxygen like crazy and therefore kill fish like crazy. Shellfish are turned extremely dangerous to human consumption and will absolutely kill you if eaten! IE .....Mussels, Oysters,Clams,Ect...Filter feeders in general. Do not eat any fish ,anywhere, anytime if you do not know what killed it !!!!! Use common sence guys! CHEERS, Tom the Yank
  3. Wow!!!!!! Penguin!!!!!!! What a toad Bluefin!!!!Your're killin me!!!!! Congrats from an old tuna killin' fool...I've been after a Southern Bluefin like that for years.....OUTSTANDING! Cheers Mate! Tom the Yank
  4. Priceless!!!! Keep him at it ....sportfishings future starts with the young ones getting involved and "hooked".....CHEERS Mate!! Tom the Yank
  5. Well done mate! Wheather off the beach or the bricks or the boat or the yak....Bloody good job! CHEERS, Tom the Yank.
  6. Raiders, I don't know who this guy is but I'm sure I've seen him from our boat before in the Juno Pt. area , also Flint and Steel........Cheers .......Tom the Yank.
  7. G'Day...Thailand ....You bet!!! My wife is Thai and besides being a great place to party and eat dynamite food it's also a great place to wet a line. There are plenty of good operations out of Phuket very easy to find and "hook up" with...However, (as a little Thai girl said to me a long, long time ago....."if you lookin' fo a goot goot time") head up north of Phuket to the Cheow Lan lake ,east of Takua Pa and have blast on the Giant Snakehead fish and Jungle Barb. Just use standard Ozzie or American Bass type gear and you'll thought you'd died and gone to heaven!! Check out WWW. Asian-Angling-Adventures.com and see if that doesn't fit the bill! You should be in the right time of the season as well for good action. Also' these guys also handle trips up north around Chiang Mai for Masheer and snakeheads as well. I know of some Kiwi trout guys that go up every time they get a chance and really get into the fish in wild rivers and lakes. Let me know how you did..... Cheers Tom the Yank
  8. Good job.... Considering the weather you blokes took a chance ..WOW! it really paid off! CHEERS, Tom theYank
  9. OOHHH MY GAWD!!!!! I know someone who's stoked!!! CHEERS MATE!! Tom the Yank
  10. Gaffer, I'm afraid that Trapper and Musty have it spot-on. Try getting rid of gill nets, trawl guys and other destructive commercial fishing methods and just see the fantastic results! Global bull-o- ney be damned! Nature',especially the oceans ,have an uncanny ability to re-generate themselves if left to they're own devices. However, if certain waters are pounded by the commercial boy's it gets ugly real soon. I've been on both sides of the "net", if you will, (commercial "pounder" and sport guy) and have seen it go from dream fabulous to a desert and back again in my native Southern California offshore waters. California Giant Black Seabass (Queensland Grouper), California White Seabass (Mulloway), Albacore (Southern Bluefin tuna),,,,on and on and on These fish have very similar habitat, baitfish requirements and are fished very much the same ways, both commercially and sport. THERE IS NO MIDDLE GROUND WITH COMMERCIAL FISHING INTERESTS!! (I"ve also known this to be true when I fished and worked in Alaska, where sport guys are now getting screwed by commercial interests...and guess what? The fishing up there is not what it used to be !......Far from it.). Even with overbearing monitoring and regulation by the State and Federal govts. .......I love Australia and my Aussie Raider mates! Take warning! You don't have to buy into all of the GREEN kooks Bravo Sierra, however, IN THE NAME OF sportfishING, Australians must get moving foreward to looking at banding together and working toward dealing with pollution issues, wastewater treatment and halting crazy commercial fishing methods, or else face destruction of our beloved pastime of sport angling! "The good old day's" in the Hawksbury system that my Ozzy fishing mate tells me about, I can only imagine...He laments the current situation all around Australia's fishing areas. He's seen a decline ever since he arrived in Oz in 1944. As I've said, I've seen what can be done to get things back to a somewhat Good old days situation if we work at it! Groups like Fishraiders and this forum are great places to start...........CHEERS, Tom the Yank

  14. Good job on the Kingy's mate........Lesson learned on the knot RIGHT? Always......ALWAYS..check your terminal end i.e. line, knot, hook, ect. after every fish and to be sure every time you pull it in to re-set or whatever...Take it from one ol" Yank who's faced every type of self inflicted disaster that one can imagine, a quick check is better than dumping OLD FATSO......Cheers, Tom the Yank
  15. Cheers! Looks like a sweet time was had by one and all......Tom the Yank
  16. Ray..Good job boys!!! Where I'm from that Bloody beautiful octopus would be cooked up Mexican style in a dish called "Pulpo"....Out'aa sight!!..Maybe you could find a spot-on Mexican cooking website for the recipe....if so,and you do it right , you'll never use it for "fish food" again....(Even if snapper are involved.)...Trust me....CHEERS MATES! Tom the Yank
