Hi All, went out for a fish on Sunday (9th July) into the hawkesbury, and when we're loading the boat back onto the trailer, look off the bait board, leaving it on the jetty. Daughter realised we'd left it when she was looking a pics ..... at home. BUGGER !!! if anyone knows if a bait board was found out there (large board with 4 rod holders), can you point them in my direction. cheers, Taps.

Admin, I don't mean to be argumentative, so please don't take my comments the wrong way..... I understand why we have to support our sponsors...it's a given. Members are often asking for boat recommendations, or showing off their pride and joy. Members are asking for PFD recommendations http://www.fishraider.com.au/Invision/index.php?showtopic=45196 (the last post is dated 28.8.12) members are often asking "which lure?" however, If we are to apply the logic of rule 8, then there should be no talk of - any boats NOT supplied by "Huett Marine" or "Sport Fishing Boats", so no talk of Hobie kayaks or other watercraft not supplied by the aforementioned any talk of PFD's other than the "infltable Rashirt" any talk of lure other than "Berkley" or "U Make Em Sft plastics", so no talk of squidgies, kokoda, rapala etc. Rules and constitutions are ever evolving....and more often than not, for the better. That's a fact of life. Is this forum above that ?

G'Day all, Taking the family away during the school holidays upto to Moreton Island. We're staying at Comboyuro Point (western side). Just wondering if any raiders have been up there and tried fishing off the beach, particulary on the western side. We'll have 16 kids in our group, so wanted to stay away from the surf side while were fishing. As far as I know, bait can be bought at the shops, but there's limited supply. Was planning on filling up the tackle box with an assortment of lures (soft and hard), and some spinners. Any pointers are appreciated. Cheers, Taps.

Hi All, as the topic description states, we're heading out on a charter tomorrow afternoon. I've been hearing all week, that the beaches are being pounded with big waves, so what's it like outside ??? The boat we're going on (55ft) usually stays/drifts around 2kms off north head (obviously depending on winds and current). Cheers, Taps.

what do you do when wife has to work ???? go fishing of course. took the 3 kids out for a quick session. I wanted to go out to Patonga, a feed is almost always guaranteed, but having my 5 year old daughter with us, i was a bit worried about crossing the hawkesbury from cowan creek. came out of Akuna bay where the boat is, and it was flat. Pefect, and this was at 11.30am. Got to Patonga, and put three lines out, while my little girl had the job of catching the bait. 5 or 6 drifts, broken up with a quick swim to break up the day, and get the sea sickness feeling away from my 9 year old, we had 4 keeper flatheads. I threw one fish back which was 32cms....so close, but no cigar. On a side note, one of drifts almost ending in disaster. Whilst my attention was given to untanging the kids lines, we almost drifted into a moored yacht. I quickly started the motor and whacked it into reverse. avoided the yacht, but got my braid wrapped around the prop....got it out fairly quickly though. Back home by 5 pm, and beer battered flatheads fillets served up for the kids and wife (I don't eat fish). Cheers, Taps.

I was drifting at Patonga yesterday, and caught a flathead with every drift. 5 in total, with the smallest being 32cms thrown back to grow just the smallest little bit. I've stopped trying other spots in this waterway...too many pickers or nothing. I used to catch large bream behind dangar island (north east). There's a massive drop off right in close, but the current can sometimes make it hard to burley up, unless you can get the burley right down. Good luck. Taps.

Have seen the bung plug issue once also. While we were preparing to launch our boat at Mungo Brush, another family is doing the same. Father is backing the boat down the ramp and his son calls out "dad, did you put the plugs in?". His father replies,"I'm not an idiot", and the son walks away with the sad droopy face, after his old man made him feel like crap. 5 mins later, they are back at the ramp, with half of their boat filled with water. Forward momentum being the only think saving their boat. Who's the idiot now ???? I have to put my hand up (and head down in shame) for driving with the leg down.....

I guess this post is directed to Huey.... A mate recently bought a pongrass 15' boat, with an evinrude 55 on the back. It was all bought from the original owner, who unfortunately now has dementia (apparently, on his last trip out, he didn't know which way to get home). I'm not sure of it's age, but I know it's old, and hasn't been used for while. On tuesday afternoon, they tried to take it down to ermington to give it run, but I advised them against it, as they haven't had it serviced yet, or even checked over....he doesn't have a licence either. Anyway, they started to motor, all ok, but then the motor started making a whining noise....from what he described to me, is sounded like it was coming from the gear box, but not sure. He's called a few mechanics, but they're al too busy at the moment. What can he check by himself ??? I think he (like me), is mechanically challenged to some degree. Cheers, Taps.

very lumpy indeed, especially in short seas. as you get about half way between lion island and box head, the swells will come in at an angle....sort of from N.E. as it passes box head, and then as you approach box head or the channel, they'll become a little steeper. Power thru these, and you'll be into clear waters pretty quickly, and then it's fine. STICK TO THE CHANNEL. A week or so after cycle Daniel ripped thru FNQ, we got big swells down here. I was too busy watching people surfing the waves over the sand Bar, and missed the channel. Before I knew it, I was surfing too.....In a 4.75m alloy boat.....NOT FUN. You'll be fine. It's not a difficult crossing by any means, just watch the weather, and the conditions. Taps.

I found some more info on this pump. It states that the head at 6'7" drops the flow rate to US 180GPH, which is still better than zero, which is what I'm getting. Usually i turn the pump on, and see if it starts working. When it doesn't, I fill the tank manually with a bucket. To shift any airlocks, I turn the pump off, and the tank drains partially, so I can only assume that any air locks have been purged in reverse, but then still no joy when I turn the pump on. hmmmmm......

It's the 'Rule 12V' pump. Just checked their website, and it is a 500 US GPH flow. intake is about 4" below the water line.

G'Day all. Over the x-mas break I deceided to set up a live bait tank in the boat. I used one of two bins in the aft section of my boat (beside the transom well), which were designed for drinks/ice bin. I used a thru-hull pump which I picked up with a rating of 500gph (I think). The problem i have, is that it takes ages for the system to prime and then run. Basically, i draw water in thru the transom wall, up into the bottom of the tank. I have an overflow drain, which keep the water below the lid of the well, so when it's working properly, there is a continuous water flow. To prime the system, I have to keep pouring buckets of water into the well, and wait....and wait....turn the pump on and off a few times, have another beer, and wait a bit longer. Then it will just start working. Could I have an issue with head pressure ??? The intake is about 300mm above the bottom of the well, and the well's depth to the overflow, is a further 300mm. G'Day all, over the school holidays, we did what most people do, and went for an overseas trip.....with the added bonus of leaving of the kids behind... ....they have forgiven us, but we have to take them next time. We went over to Cabo in Mexico, and hearing that the fishing there is just crazy, I had to book a charter. Taking a mate who has never fished before, or been on a boat for any length of time, we headed out just before sunrise, and after about 30 mins to get to the fishing grounds, we had the lines in the water. It took no more than 15 seconds before the first line started screaming, and before we could pull it out of the rod holder, two more lines went off. I let my mate 'snoops' pull the first fish Mahi Mahi, but he was buggered from it after he landed it, so I pulled in the two remaining fish. We kept pulling in fish every 10-15 minutes or so, and then snoops picked up the rod after it bent right over. This was not a Mahi Mahi (Dolphin fish), it was giving him grief, but he persisted, giving line when the fish wanted it, and slowly pulling it back when he could. After 10 mins or so, we saw some colour, and a wahoo about 5ft long was brought in.....now Snoops was truly buggered. The next strike was deemed mine, so I took the rod, and there was something very very heavy on the end of line. I'd get some line back, then I'd lose a lot more....then in the distance it broke the water....A bloody Manta Ray. It was putting one hell of a show, and a fight. After 30-40 minutes of tussling with the ray, I had it beside the boat. It's span was close to 2 meters, a beautiful looking creature....a quick pic (unfortunately, on Snoops' camera), and the ray was released.....I too was now buggered. After a half hour or so, we were both buggered, he was sea sick, I had a belly full , and we had enough fish for the crew and their families, we called it a day....well....morning. I think we finished up with about 11 Mahi Mahi, and 1 wahoo.... If you ever to get to Mexico, make sure to call into Cabo. Not as touristy as other places, so well worth the visit. i have a deep seas charter booked for our cricket teams end of season bash. Typical, we booked it about 6 weeks ago, the weather was great then. going bottom bashing somewhere out there....hopefully. Looked the forecast...plnty of rain, but the seas/swell/wind don't appear to be too bad .... it could all change though I guess.

G'Day Mate, If you're keen for a fish weekday's, and need company, let me know. I live in winston hills too. we can take your boat or mine. I've got a 6.2 stejcraft, but haven't been outside.....to ....chicken I guess the right word would be. I have to admit however, though I've been fishing for more than 15 years, I'm only used used to feeding them. I have all my own gear (light to medium). Cheers, Taps.

Hi All, We have booked our July fishing trip up at seal rocks, namely treachery beach, but have just found out that the beach has been closed to 4wd access . It's only pedestrian access now. We normally fished the southern end of the beach, with all our gear, food, camp cooking stuff in the trucks, so going for a wall from the access point to the fishing spot is not going to happen. you can still access lighthouse beach by 4wd, and we've tried here before, but with not much success. The gutters that form on treachery beach seem more productive. Has anyone had much luck on lighthouse ??? Can anyone offer some pointers ???? We're going down on the 16th to 19th July. Cheers, Taps.

Really informative Jewhunter I'm going out next wednesday, so I'll definitely wet my squid jigs now....they're still in the packets....about 8 months after buying them. I've never tried, didn't know where to start really, so hopefully I may some luck.

Kingies in particular.....I've never caught one. Things like bream and Flathead, I'm ok with.....I tend to get these as a fall back or a consolation prize. Haven't really had much luck with plastics either..... So....really, I'm open for whatever my "mentor" is keen to explore....in an angling kind of way.... Taps.
