Anyone do any good on the harbour today ?. I saw a few of the regulars around Nth Head but didn't see any action. I was out on the kayak and put in a fair bit of effort for zilch . BTW, I've come up with a name for a new TV show, "It's called How the %@*% did that happen". It never ceases to amaze what can happen on the water.

Hi, Has anyone ever fished in the Launceston area of Tassie. I'm spending a few days there and wondering if it's worth taking some gear down. I dont have any fly tackle but do have bream/flattie etc gear. Any advice with be great. Wobbler

I saw a heap of Sambo's thrashing in a school about 100 mts of Manly Wharf on Thursday afternoon about 5PM. They must be coming in late. There was a couple of kayakers, two boats trying to get some of the action but could not see anyone pulling them in.

Fished around the heads on Friday morning and had no luck. Tried trolling all sorts of plastics, hard bodies, deep divers and even a fly out of the Kayak but not a bite. Did not see any surface or bird action, went home very dissappointed. Was anyone else out on Friday and how did you go ?.

Went down with all the info even though the tide was not ideal to give it a go. Got onto the water 8:00 and tried the sandy Beach opposite the ramp with a plastic in Killer Tomato but no luck. Pulled up under the bridger and cast a few plastic and a couple of blades still no luck. Had some salted Bonito on the other line in case something just happened along but zero. Paddled further upstream and tried several areas but not a thing. Tried everything bar dynamite and nothing. Did not see any movement in the water at all. There was a fisho in a boat near the bridge but he was having no luck as well. On way back there was guy taking his new Hobie out and giving it a run. Chatted and he said that he had been talking to a Kayak dealer who had a stall at the Sydney boat show and he said they had taken deposits for about 80 and they hope to hit the 100 mark after the undecided test them. The sport is definitely on the increase. But all was not lost, it was a beautiful day on the water and a greart day for a paddle. It's hard to believe that this area is in the middle of Sydney. I give mine to a neighbour who makes a thick curry soup. Adds rice to the dish and it tastes fantastic.

Headed out Sat morning about 7 am from Little Manly in the kayak Weather was fine, a SW wind the 2 M swell from the SE and water temp was about 17.5 deg’s Get around the corner from the Quaranteen Station and hit the breeze and the water was chopped up a bit from the wind, the swell from the SE and rebounding off the rocks. All in all not very pleasant in a Yak. I had only done one sweep the troll with a plastic stick bait and a 11 cm hard body deep diver and checked the line and the had become tangled . Reeled on the plastic which brought in the hard body as well. Kept winding in the hard body and on the end there are TWO bonito on the lure . Re rigged the deep diver and set of again keeping the plastic out of the water. In the conditions I decided just to have the one line out. Fishing in a Kayak is like fishing from a boat only using one hand. After few passes I’d landed 8 Bonito’s. Kept 5 and released the others. It was hard work but a lot of fun. Back at Little Manly by 9:30 by which the wind had dropped.

As a fellow yak fisho I'm mighty impressed, congratulation. A great fish and a great report. I don't think I could have got it home in my Hobie Quest. Wobbler

I'm a yak fisho and this is one hell of a feat. I'm impressed to the max. You could drink for free telling this story over and over. All hail !!

also fished yesterday for two lousy leather jackets. Saw one of the fishing guides out with a few people on board, they seemed to be doing a lot of jumping between fishing spots so they looked like it was slim pickings for them as well. Wobbler

G'Day Tan the Fisherman, Yes i did get a little close to the rock hoppers, everthing is much harder fishing from the Yak and you tend to get distracted. Do say hello next time a friendly face is always welcome, especially if those fins ( above ) are attached to a bull shark I need a lift/rescue. As for the tow, if I started heading to NZ when westerly springs up I might take you up on it. Rgds, Wobbler

Well done Kev, you did better than me. I was out today on the Kayak and trolled between the Q station and Nth head a few times for zilch. Caught two undersize trevally and a sargent baker on some salted Bonny. Put in a lot of effort for nothing. Maybe next time. Wobbler

Anyone out on Sydney Harbour today and if so, is there still a plague of those pesky Jackets out there ?. I went out a few days ago and using bait was a waste of time.

G'Day erroll i have a Hobie Quest that I bought at the last Sydney boat show. It's was a great buy and if you pay cash etc you get a good deal. I found that I got more for my money with a Quest. It's very stable but this has not taken too much speed off it. I paddle mostly around Middle Head/Nth Head only occasionally get water over the bow. Very happy with it. A mate that I go with a lot has a Ocean Kayak - Prowler Elite 4.5. They are a faster unit, very stable lots of features, never gets water over the bow but they cost a fair bit more. They are at the longer end of the scale so for enclosed waters they are a bit hard to turn. All yaks are pretty similar but some have more little features than other. Also the finish on the Quest was better than some. having said that that the Viking Profish is a nice looking unit I must say. Have good look around and ask the shops can you have a test paddle. I bought mine at Sailing Scene at Mona Vale and most Saturdays they have test paddles on Pittwater. Just have to ring and book. BTW, make sure you get one with a rudder. It will cost more but they make life so much easier. Any further questions drop me a PM. Rgds, Wobbler
