  2. Hey mate, i had a 1903, great boat and i imported too. Sold it earlier this year and now have a 2103. any questions give me a yell. My PM has been disabled for some reason??? Stuey any help???

  3. Huey, you are an E-Tec dealer and have complete faith in what you sell. My marine mechanic who i trust completely ( for the past 10 years ) told me to stay away from them, not just from all of the stories you hear about them. The Yamaha you refer to is 2002 to 2004 models which had the problems with corrosion. I was talking about the new 4.2l model. Just because i said something negative about an E-Tec doesn't require such defence, you are a well respected member of this site. I was merely giving some advice, knowledge and opinion based on my experience.

  4. Hi mate, i have imported a couple of Trophys from the USA. The 2002 is a nice boat but big and heavy. 2 boats you may consider are:

    Keywest 2020 WA

    Seahunt Victory 207

Both under 2Ton to tow so no breakaway crap.

Those 2 links are just examples.

PM if you need more help.

  5. The more you read the harder it get, i have been offered a Sea Hunt victory 225wa, looks god but i do not know much about these boats, the limited reports suggest they are better than trophy but not as good as BH or grady whites, i am also considering a Trophy 2102, Robolo look like great boats but too heavy to tow in e walkarounds

    Any advice appreciated

Go for the Victory 225, very popular boat in the states. The Keywest 2300 bluewater is a great boat too, you can put 300hp on the back!

Only issue may be resale here as those 2 are not as popular as some other brands,

  6. Hi Chop,

They way we release a fish is the best way we find for the survival of the fish. If we had our way we wouldn't even tag them, but as we get pressure put on by the authorities as a charter boat to record our captures for their statistics we do it. As you would know the fish generally takes off after being tagged exhusting the fish further and reducing their chance of survival. We try and get the fish up as quickly as possible get him swimming with the boat on the leader for a short period so people can have a good look at him then straighten the hook.

We have tested the light gauge hooks we use against the breaking strain and yes sometimes the leader breaks due to bill rubbing but more often then not the hook staightens and pulls out of the fish. We would rather remove the hook this way than leave a length of line hanging out as well as the hook if we just cut it off. If the leader breaks it will normally bust very close to the fish due to bill wear, if we tried to cut it that close we would more than likely have to handle the fish at the side of the boat, again causing more stress on the fish.

    Cheers Damo

    Hey Damo,

Great footage and nice fish mate.

What hooks do you use? Looking at getting into some beakie fishing and would much prefer this method that leaving a hook in them.

    Cheers HM

  7. I had a hds5 in my old boat. It's ok, but seems basic. I've been told the HB and raymarine in these models are better. Has anyone bought the HB 798ci from the USA. What functions do you lose? I've been told it has to stay in imperial measurements only.

Furuno 620's are great. You can get them for under $1k from the states.

  8. yeah mate,

    2004

    4 Stroke

    US

    cheers

Hi, just bought a boat from the US and based on all of the research i did ( a hell of a lot ) come to the conclusion they were not great. I bought a Trophy 2302 based. In the US Trophys don't get the best wrap but they are great boats, yanks just hold onto the Bayliner part and we know how sh*t bayliners are. A few brands that i liked were Keywest, Trophy 2004 onwards, Seahunt ( Triton ) Seaswirl. Check too cause some boats have wood construction and some dont. Polar boats could be ok but not enough research available on OZ forums. Stick with what ya know i reckon. I really liked the Seaswirl 2301 ( 2003 and after no wood ) but didn't buy it as it has no positive buoyancy where as the Trophys do. The Hull Truth is a trove on info, get on there and check it out. Anymore info just PM me, glad to help.

  9. Hey Raiders, i've just bought a Trophy 2302 WA and have space left in the container to fit up to a 19ft Centre Console. If anyone was in the market for one of these boats and needs it shipped PM me. Watercraft mix is sorting it all for me so you could contact them direct to be 100% on everything. You would be looking at 3-4k for that space + share of port charges / unload and GST.

  10. Was it 80kg, Was it 70.375kg, Was it 69.467kg, Was it 86.627kg who cares it has already been stated that the fish was not weighed. Its a great fish and atop effort on 15kg. If there was a bit less criticism of peoples estimates and more kudos for peoples efforts iam sure we would all get to enjoy more reports of big fish.

Agreed mate, too many armchair legends carrying on again. I dont think those pics do the fish justice. Everyone is so quick to talk down the size / weight of a fish someone posts on here to let you know whats been caught. I reckon its close to his estimated weight. Look at the 2nd pic, its at least 6 slabs long which would be 6ft!

  11. Hi raiders

I would like to target some game and sports fish off shore from Sydney(port hacking) I have a 6-7m glass half cab with 200 hp 250 litres all 2yrs old and serviced each winter with all the required safety gear including EPIRB. My thoughts were given I am new to off shore in Sydney was to start at some FADS off Port Hacking and venture to The Peak and 12 Mile in the coming weeks. I have been doing a lot of reading in the forum and eventually I would like to go to Browns Mountain.

I would be grateful to the experienced raiders to comment on my plan especially with regard to suitability of the boat and the weather conditions considered possible.

I would also appreciate to know regulars who would be willing for me to follow side by side to gain some experience and confidence.

Just to keep in touch on the VHF would be good peace of mind.

Feel free to give some help on the fishing techniques.

    Thanks Bucaneer

Check your PM, give me a call for any advice. Cheers
