  1. Correct mate, its a firmware update.. you can then flip the image or video over using the Gopro Cineform Studio download - Cheers.
  2. Going like a dream now mate.. Went for a long run out of Botany on Tuesday with Doc and Cammo - from Botany to the Station the water was shitty green and 20.9 degrees, headed wide of the bait station and found great water, temp shot up to 23.6.. sounded 3 good fish along the 500 fathom line however didn't raise anything for the day. Cheers Marty PS: Here's a laugh for you Damo.. I took a couple of shots with the Gopro early on in the day to see if the angles were right, somehow turned it on to time lapse photography, took 2900 photo's from Sydney to the FAD then when we hooked the Blue we got just over 1 minute of footage and the battery went flat! LOL! Missed all the action of the fish jumping about!
  3. Headed out last Thursday in pristine conditions, light breeze, sunny day, 24 degree blue waters. Searched about our blue mackerel spots for about 2 hours without any luck at all before heading out to Botany Wide FAD for a crack at some dollies. We landed only one legal with lots of juvenile fish swimming about - some bigger ones were sounding but we had no luck with baits or soft plastics. From there we headed wide and in 230 fathoms the short corner was taken on a Pakula Hot Head Beer Barrel, 318mm in Blue Green The fish was pretty active and in the first run we were sure it was about to tangle with the shotgun when it leaped straight over the top of it and cleared it by about 2 feet! After about 40 minutes we had the fish boat side with a tag ready to go however we weren't able to swim it away so we brought it on board. From there we marked another good fish on the southern side of Browns however with no livies aboard we couldn't raise it. We continued further wide where the long liners had gear all over the shop and on to Heatons without success. Coming home we hooked up on the same southern side of Browns however the hooks didn't stick. All in all a great day out and we took the fish back to the pub where the bouncers were delighted.. they cut it up with a saw and took to it raw! Will be out there tomorrow on 21 (Reel Game) if any raiders are about. Cheers Marty
  4. Well done mate.. Dr. Julian Pepperell wrote the following in a Bluewater edition back in 2010.. (this is just a small extract of his full column on the issue of identifying Marlin) "The first feature to look at for Marlin is the pectoral (side) fin. If it sticks out from the body and is locked in that position (it cant be pushed back to lie against the body) its a black. If the fins do fold flat, look at the dorsal fin, preferably fully extended. If the height of this fin is about equal to, or greater than, the depth of the body (measured behind the gill cover) its a striped. If the height is about two thirds the depth of the body, its a blue. Here's a picture that he put with the article that helps: Going off the height of the dorsal fin, I'd say it looks to be a black.. do you know if the pectoral fins could fold flat against the body before rigor mortis set in? Cheers Marty
  5. Shall pass the info on, thanks guys.
  6. G'day, My mate has a Haines 580 Breeze and we're looking to install a Furuno 585 into it. Really keen to hear from any raiders who have same or similar size glass boat who have installed the 585 with a 1kw transducer. Specifically, we're interested to hear from anyone who chose a "transom mount" transducer versus the "through hull" versus the "in hull - shoot through" or even the transom mount which can be raised and lowered. Looking for any feedback at all, we're keen to get it right first time and any tips would be greatly appreciated. We're pretty fluent with the transom mount options, but tempted to go through hull or shoot through.. Cheers. Marty
  7. Great footage Damo - did the client bring a video cam or have you installed one of those gopro 2 cams up there with Mike? Cheers Marty
  8. Cheers mate, Looking forward to going for a run up at Port Stephens with you guys.. I've locked it in with Mike for the 14th & 15th - did you get that pic I emailed you on Friday of the one we lost after 3 hours - keen to hear if you call if for a blue or black.. i'm thinking black by the look of the pec fins? Regards Marty
  9. Went out of Sydney last week in hope of a Marlin on our mate Cammo's boat.. we had hooked 2 in the prior week but went 1.0.0 on both of those trips Managed to find some nice baits around the rocks and had a crack at sewing them up as skips.. managed to punch the needle into my hand all the way past the head.. not a good start to the day.. one of the boys ripped it back out for me and we gave it a good dose of extra dry before continuing on for the day From there we trolled lures around the 12, then the skips up to the bait station, back across to Botany Wide Fad, over the Plonk and out to Browns. By this time we had gone through 6 or 7 skips baits and a bit of cabin pressure was starting to set in, we had been on the water for about 13 hours by this time. We had just trolled lures back in from browns to the the wide Fad when something started to whack at the long corner.. before we knew it the reel was screaming and we got about clearing the decks while Cammo took to the fish. Sadness turned back into happiness as Cammo got the fish beside the boat and it was decided that his first Marlin (first on his own boat) was going home as a feed. In gaffing the fish we were a bit too keen and as a result we landed on our backsides with the fish on top of us All in all a good day out. Went out again yesterday but no luck, managed a few good dollies off the Fad but nothing else - looking forward to a few days with Mike and Damo at Port Stephens in the week after next. Cheers Marty
  10. Check out the link here from Lizard Island Game Fishing Club.. easy to print and laminate and you can keep it on your boat with a tape. http://www.lizardislandgfc.asn.au/size.php?PHPSESSID=55e9dc9fb3359c7b61b5de6768f519e8 Cheers Marty.

    Tow-Cam

Hey Dan, With the tow-cam, it definately plugs into certain sounders on which you can then view the live imagery... not sure if the Go Pro can or not. Only prob obviously being that you lose the use of your sounder while looking at the images.. The guys at tow-cam recommend the following unit which enables you to view (although only 7 inch screen), record, edit etc etc.. can record all day with option of extra battery pack for $60.. unit costs just over $1k http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/controller/home?O=ProductDetail&A=showMultipleImages&Q=&sku=516841&is=REG A cheap laptop would also do the trick and probably give a better view when you're on the back deck.. the Sony 7 inch screen might be pretty hard to watch all day and you'd need to get up close.. Cheers Marty

    Tow-Cam

Hi, Wondering if anyone has had experience with a tow-cam package, how they perform, if you've had any drama's with one, how good the water clarity needs to be before you get decent footage, whether you need to purchase a DVR to record off them, if you've viewed footage off one through your sounder or if you purchased a separate monitor, any towing problems or difficulties in swimming them right, any problems running one with a full spread out, any general feedback would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Marty

    Albies

Cheers Warnie - Bet you wont go forgetting that in a hurry!

    Albies

On the troll.. one took a pakula soft tease changa in illusion, one took a bibless diver in purple and the other a goldish coloured JB custom - decent school of them, all 3 hit at once.

    Albies

Thanks boys, appreciate the tips. We've lost 2 pakula diggers and one other witchdoctor thus the reason for the cable.. I find that they always give way at either the snap swivel they use or the standard rope that it comes on gets a few nicks in it then gives way when something has a snap at it. The cable could definately be a problem for the props though... a switch to heavy leader is on the cards. Cheers
  17. Headed out last Friday and found a heap of live bait right along the coastline from Botany.. had a quick shot at it but didnt get onto any Kingies - perhaps a bit too keen to get a spread out and look for the temp break. Ended up trolling from Sydney to the bait station then to browns then out to the hill.. managed three albies just before dark at heatons and something had a good chew on the witchdoctor as well. Plenty of bait: Three albies: A chew on the witchdoctor: Cheers Marty
  18. Just a dolphin in the pic.. at one stage there was hundreds
  19. Bang on mate.. was just trolling back from Heatons when we saw it.. had some notice from Marine Rescue Syd as well. We were in a 24foot cat - life jackets, personal EPIRBS + the 406 ready to go on the dash.. wasnt pretty - one lightning strike was within 50 foot of the boat. We had constant contact with MRS the whole time and they were reporting on the additional storm cells coming through behind it.. they requested lat and long updates from all boats every 10 minutes Cheers
  20. The calm before the storm: The storm coming out to sea: The storm about to hit us 19nm wide of Browns: Not a fun trip home, made it back into the bay at 22:00
  21. 270 litres from 4:30am to about 7pm at about 20 - 25knots from botany to shelf, 7 to 9knots rest of day, back in from shelf to botany at about 35knots when it smoothed out.
  22. Highest all day was in the low 19's
  23. Went for a wide troll on Saturday, very ordinary conditions most of the morning but not too bad later on in the day. We had trolled from the shelf to Browns, out to Heatons for zero's.. We were on the way back, about 5nm West of Heatons when my mate Pete landed this Mahi.. It fell to a medium sized lumo sprocket on the long rigger.. nothing else to show for the day. Cheers Marty
  24. We left Botany last Saturday morning, trolled from the 12 to browns then about another 5 to 10 nauts wider than that.. cubed and jigged from midday till 1am Sunday morning for nothing other than 2 sharks. We're finding it pretty quiet out there at the moment..
