  1. Thanks for the tips guys, I always try and fish the tide change. I might try using a lighter leader. I have Ben using 40-50lb with my big live and dead baits , I wil drop it down to 20 and see if that helps getting some strikes. Getting live bait where I have been trying seems to be more difficult than I thought, seem to be just pulling in heaps of tiny bream. Thanks guys!
  2. Went out again this evening for the change of tide, still no jewfish , but happy with a just undersized kingy as a bi catch
  3. Spent the morning having a fish. Headed out on the boat around 7. Session was cut short by the heat. Even at 10 this morning it was stinking hot ! Was fishing for jewfish . Didn’t get any hits , was using fresh dead squids and butterflied yakkas. Tried around both sides of Pulbah island drifting. Unfortunately no luck. I have never had any luck in the lake finding them??? I usually fish the Hawkesbury and often have success there catching them. So I’m not sure what I’m doing wrong , feel free to give me any tips or advice
  4. Hey guys any thoughts on this rod?? Mostly for live baiting and big slab baits for Jews out of boat? Would a daiwa big 5000 or 6500 be a good match
  5. Thanks for the advice .So does any one know if the tohats 18hp is the exact same as merc 15super?
  6. Hi jefff, yea a few weeks back I tied my mates 15yammy. It was a big difference , I t went well with one person and It did plane with 2 of us. But I doubt 3 I would but didn't try
  7. At present it has a Honda 8hp. But struggles to plane just with one person, and is a slug with 2 or 3 on board
  8. Hi all, I'm looking at repowering my tinne. its a 3.4m edge tracker, rated to 15hp but has no wight rating . I was thinking about a 20 or 25hp but think that may be too powerful, and would have to get new compliance plate if it can even be done I'm thinking either a tohats 18hp or merc super 15hp. Can some one please tell me the difference, or am I correct in thinking they are the exact same motor???? Any thoughts
  9. Sounds like a great trip. Im glad the weather didnt stop you, May i ask where you camped? the location doesnt look familiar. I try campingout of the boat down there but most spots near berowra are tidal so limits boat acesss. Thanks
  10. Went out fishing last night, launched at broklyn at 5pm. Had some great weather for it. I think it rained 90% of the time , with a nice breeze it made for a great evening of fishing.....kinda not really. At least my New boat being half cab i had the chance to hide in my sleeping bag and watch dvd's....lol on fishing. Tried around lion island, out the front of pitwater with no luck. One bust off on a live yakka . Then tried a spot i sounded up holding losts of bait and structue near danger island, Managed one undersized flattie and a 70cm model on strip squid. Then nothing for another 2 hours. As i was about to pack up and head back to the ramp another live yakka got smashed. zzzzzzzz..... strike. I had this one. After a short fight a nice 75 cm jew. By this stage the misses wanted to go home as she couldnt sleep well. Managed to score a feed for tonight of flattie, Returned the jew. All in all not a bad wet night! At least the belting down rain on the way home washed most of my boat!. Will post pics soon! Will head down again in a few more days to try again. would love to score a feed of blue swimmers. Hoping to take the crab pots out, Any one know if the are in the river yet??? or still a bit early?
  11. Yes its a 1979 model. I belive they use to be used as surf rescue boats, hence the bright orange colour of most.
  12. I have a pongrass Surfmaster 4.45. I know little about this brand or this boat! The transom and floor is still rock solid. It has a 40hp Etec on it which performs well on it, But unfortunatly have to give the motor back to my brother. So am looking at re-powering it. Am looking at the new yamaha 70f as i can pick it up cheap, and have heard good reviews about them. My Etec is 109kg and the new 70f is 120kg. I am unsure of the max hp or weight for this model boat, and can not find any where on the internet!!!! If any one knows the details of these boats please let me know. Any ideas or help would be great thanks Daniel
  13. After a few too many last night, our be on the water time of 7 turned in 930. We shot out to the heads with the plans to try and find some kings. The morning did not get much better after not finding any bait. Out comes the back up frozen squid. Once we got passed lion island the swell was up. And did not look like it was getting any better, nor help our sore heads. So went in search of some jews. Tried out the front on pittwater.. zip, both sides of lion island... zip drifted the whole river bank all the way back to brookyn and this time we got... zip tired both sides of dangar island, then off to the bridge and you guessed it... zip.. Pulled the boat out and went to the fish and chip shop... best catch of the day flathead fillets!
  14. Planning on going down trying for the elusive Jew tonight. Planning on being at berowra boat ramp about 730-8 trying for some squid and some livies for a while then heading up river. Any one interested in comming is welcome just let me know.
  15. After finally selling the old pongrass sufmaster i finally got the chance to order my new rig. Picked it up sunday. Its a new Baysport 640. She gave the old commodore ute a hard time compared to the 1979 model 4.5m sufmaster. Might be a 4wd upgrade in the near future , So me and my mate went down to berowra to have a poke around brooklin and the heads. Wow we were at the heads in like 20 mins . Landed 2 flathead one went 72 cms and a small jew. Good day all in all.
  16. I have recently obtained a late 70's Pongrass Surf master 4.5m, which i have been told is rock solid and as good as new suprisinly. It is powered by a new evinrude 40etec. Can this be taken out past the heads? on a fine day of less than 1m, 1.5m of swell? I have all the safety gear gps, compass, flares, epirb, v sheet, vhf radio. I will be taking out of the hawksbury. I a am hoping to find a few reefs close by, less than a few km out, to get into the sport of reef fishing. Is this in your opinion a safe idea? and any pointers or tips would be great. Thanks Daniel
  17. Hey Mate I would love the oppotunity to come join you. I am free all weekends and would be willing to go any time. I do how ever live 10 mins from Campbelltown,, earily starts are fine. I have all my own gear, as i have a boat my-self. I have plenty of experiance towing trailers as i do it every day driving trucks. Also have a boat license. I have good sea legs and dont have a problem doing a day out side be it smooth or rough. Would be more than willing to put my share of bait and fuel. Always happy to leave the beer till after the boat is clean. My email is: danielpayne@bigpond.com or you can message me for your number. Thanks Daniel
  18. I have been fishing the hawksbury now for some time. I have spent alot of time fishing berowra, calabash bay, but also have spent a fair time fishing most of the hawksbury. I just never seem to have any luck...at all . I have searched for spots on the internet, read other peoples posts, and also bought a top of the line fish finer. I would be wondering if any one could help my case, and would be willing to take them out for a fish on my boat with beer, bait and fuel supplied. Happy to try any where in the hawksbury for some tips and places on catching bream, flathead, jews. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think i have tried every thing and nothing seems to make much diffrent. So i have come to the conclusion that the river has no fi sh in it, until some one proves me wrong.
