  1. How do you fully remove the check valve to get to the shuttle valve? (maybe its stuck) It seems the check valve screw just keeps spinning and doesn't come out.
  2. How are the relays connected to the Tilt/Trim when the cable goes directly to the switch. Can't see any connected to the tilt cable going to the outboard.
  3. i could not find any relays. I traced the cable coming from the tilt motor all the way to the switch at the front of the boat. No relays just straight cable to the up/down switch. Please note that electrics is working as the pump is functional up and down but no movement of hydraulics coming down even if i put force on it. Oil is good. When i loosen the manual release screw the tilt comes down fine. I can't find any relays or soleinoids whatsoever which is weird. Evinrude 70's outboard model number - 50473M Tilt No - ESZ 4015 12V E5 Brand name with some letters not visible - P ES OLINE (these are what we can see, spaces are the letters not visible as they are worn out)
  4. Fluid is fine as when i fill it up it spills out. Still won't go down. When i loosen the tilt valve screw with a flat head screwdriver the motor comes down. Tightened the screw and tilted up, again it won't come down although i can hear the tilt motor working but the hydraulic lifter doesn't move down. There are 2 allen key type screws on the outside of the tilt motor. One which is used to top up oil, the other i don't know as i can't unscrew it as the allen type thread is worn out. Tried to open with multi grip pliers, but no good. There is also the flat screwdriver head screw which tilts the outboard down. I have traced the cable from the trim motor which seems to go directly to the wire harness which connects to the battery. I cannot find any relays connected to the tilt motor.
  5. Hi everyone, I have a mid 70's 50 P Evinrude outboard. The boat has been sitting around for a while now with no use. Today i connected the battery and found the tilt would not go up or down although you can hear the pump working. I topped up the hydraulic oil and the motor tilted up but not down although i can here the pump also working. There is a screw which i loosened which let the outboard down. There is also another bolt at the bottom which i cant seem to get undone. What could the issue be? thanks
  6. Thanks for your tips. It looks like each block has a thermostat housing. Is this correct? If I remove them a nd either clean or replace, what do I use in outboards to seal the housing?
  7. Started the outboard again today on the muffs and left running for less than a minute. Kept feeling the temperature of the power heads which were still cold as soon as they started to get warm the water started flowing through the tell tale. From what I could see I believe there is a thermostat that opens at a certain temperature. Thanks everyone for your help.
  8. Hey guys, hope everyone is doing well.... Its been a while now...need some time now to fish... Bought a 17ft Seafarer with a Johnson 120HP VRO on a pod. Looks like a pretty descent shape, deep hull and in pretty good nick. I believe it is around the early 90's model or so. I love the POD, much more space. Haven't owned one of these before but i have checked reviews via google and all seem to be positive. What is your take on these boats and the Johnson Only bought it last night. Will hopefully take it for a run on the weekend. It's weird. Last night it pumped water. The water took about 15 seconds to piss out through the top hose outlet. Ran it today after work but no water would came out for some reason. Mind you I didn't.'t dare to run it more than 30 or so seconds. Could it be the impeller, water pump, the muffs or the motor needs to get to a certain temperature before it pisses out through the hose? The motor was cold and didn't seem to be even warm. Other model outboards i have owned used to immediately flush out. I rang the previous owner who said if its cold it can take upto a minute to pump through the top outlet. Does this sound weird? Thanks
  9. I did further checking later today... When i put the gear into reverse, u can turn the propeller clockwise but it locks into position anti clockwise. This makes sense as the propeller spins anti clockwise when in reverse. When the gear is in forward you can't spin it either way. In neutral obviously it spins both ways freely. I also found the gear oil drainage plug didn't have the rubber or plastic seal, whereas the top breather plug did. I think a good place to start is with a new seal for this plug and see how it goes. The propeller and its surroundings look pretty good from the outside and no oil residue in the vicinity.
  10. MERRY XMAS TO ALL & A HAPPY SAFE NEW YEAR - :) Went out fishing at The Entrance last night. Tide was very low and very shallow water.... My outboard is a Evinrude 175 HP V6 (80's), model number 200649S, Took off to near the bridge from the boat ramp (about 500 metres). Put the throttle leaver into reverse, but the boat didn't seem to move. It felt like it was in neutral but i could feel the gears changing. Tried a few times from reverse to neutral and then forward a few times but still no good. Ant fished for a few hours and we caught about 20 flatties and 5 bream....Good size flatties too around ranging from 40 - 50cm. Bream were just legal with the biggest at 27cm. We were actually targeting whiting with love worms, prawns & chicken, but we got zilch. Anyway this morning i got out to clean the boat and check on the outboard. Checked under the cowling and the gear levers seemed to be working ok. Checked the propeller when in reverse and it would spin freely with a slight clunk noise inside the lower unit. In forward gear it locks up. Checked the oil and found the oil was like milk. So it looks like water is getting in there from somewhere. Started the outboard and when i put it into reverse the propeller would spin and as i revved it it would go faster. So my questions are: If the reverse gear is not working, why does the propeller still spins as you rev it? Is it different under load in the water? What could be the cause of the water in the lower unit & could this be the main cause of the issue i am having?
  11. I was also planning the weekend of Feb 19-21.....we have since found out there is the annual Triathlon that weekend....good time to keep away.....so we will go the following week....
  12. My mate and I are planning a 3 day fishing trip for the very first time late February to Jervis Bay and the surrounding waters...these times will be quiet as all the kids are back at school.... I have never been down there before and i don't think my mate has fished there either...... I will be taking down my Easy Rider 21 Foot half cabin....we have also booked suitable accommodation with parking for the boat.... Plans are to mainly target Snapper....the secondary target will be Bream and anything else that may come along...Will also be doing some research on the internet and hopefully also speak to some of the local tackle stores on fishing tips in the area... We like to primarily fish within Bays...not too far out wide... If anyone has knowledge of the area and can provide us with information on where to fish, what bait to best use ....etc..etc... Many thanks.....
  13. I was using chicken breasts at the Drums...some people are telling me it could have been a shark...i can't believe i could hook up something so big so many times...
  14. Went out to the Bay around 9am with my Dad and son.... Water was choppy and a slight swell. Good fishing conditions.... Hooked up a Kingfish immediately on a small piece of chicken. After a 10 minute fight i managed to land my first legal Kingie just nudging 65cm.... We also caught 2 large Trevallie's, 2 large leather jackets, 1 flathead..... My son hooked up a massive fish on his very light bream rod. After half an hour of fighting, it snapped the hook. We couldn't seem to gain ground on it all...it seemed like a massive fish as i have never felt anything like it before.. My next cast and i hook up some monster....again after about a half hour fight it snapped my 25lb line....I had a 6-10kg shimano rod wit a Daiwa 4000X reel which also sruggled to pull it in....it was a massive fish again which did not snap my line but unhooked itself...the line was brand new and was left no good as it was badly stretched... You won't believe this, but we seemed to hook this fish up a further 3 times, and again after long fights we could not get it up...on the fourth occasion i did notice something which looked like at least 1.5 metres in length....it was massive...could this be a kingie or even a shark...my cousins in another boat witnessed the last 3 struggles with this massive fish....they could not stop shaking their heads in disbelieve.... we spent 3 hours trying to get this fish.... Our arms are absolutely killing us....what a day.....
  15. I have been on a charter once before in Sydney..and never again...it was a terrible swell and most got sick..for a $110 a head..it was the worse day...with a terrible charter company....never again...
