  1. I realy like my emblem pro 96 yes its under 10 and graphite but for spinning it will cast 40 - 85 gram raiders damn far. i use this rod primary for tailor etc for blues (Longtails) or spanish and odd decent gt i use a pe 4-6 tuna rod however a mate of mine uses his for his lbg spinning and has landed some big fish up to 21 kg blues and around the same in spanish and hes caught a lot more than me mate he floggs this rod and really gives it a big work out on some serious fish and has no problem with it and hes not a big bloke surprisingly its tippy enough so that it fun for tailor and cast even light metals I,m on my second rod of these simply got hit by a wave fell over backwards and landed on it while still holding the rod in hand doubt any rod would have survied that anway just my imput. cheers
  2. thanks for the replies i will probalby put in a warrenty claim just came as a surprise. Roberta thanks for the info defiantly come in handy if it happens to any of my decent reels didn't think it was possible to do what you did great idear mate will defianlty rember it cheers
  3. I use the same as Disturb3d 30lbs normally its great for the rocks
  4. On sunday after my son and his friends rugby game as we close to a beach so decied to take them for a fish. My son over the last few years is getting quite profficent at 10 years old and he has a wilson bream rod paired with a okuma avenger for the cost the reel was great to use espicaly for bream however on sunday he hooked somthing either flat head or tailor as they were heaps of hardyheads around being chased. Anway mid way through trying to land the fish the the stem on the reel broke. i had considered getting an okuma epix the high spin in size 60 or 80 for the beach as dont like my good spinners near the sand and they not to expensive however after seeing what material is used in the stem definalty would not use it for decent tailor etc. my daughter will still use hers for bream as shes younger and still plays in the sand rather fishes so new reel for easter for him looking at the sedona or symetre. i was thinking about post pics for anybody interested to see what the material they use in the stem still think its an ok reel for small kids catch bream but as for bigger fish defiantly not the epix stem appears to be made of the same material so im defianlty going to keep clear.
  5. Hazza has put up another good choice i dont have the 4500 but have 6000 yet to give it a really good fogging on big fish however the 6000 weighs nearly the same as my df some things i dont like though mainly the handle itself and the join theres a bit of a gap where the handle goes in but mate i reckon i could dropp it on the rocks and jump up on down on it the body is defianlty heavy duty.
  6. I use braid for spinning tuf line seems to handle the rocks better than anything else i also use briad for bait fishing and on the beach as for reels if you are going to do some spinning the saragosa is to slow gear wise great for jigging personaly i agree the with disturbed about the sustain but i would get the 8000 you mentioned that your budget was under 350 the emblem pro is a great reel cast from the beach or rocks also very light wait friends have flogged theirs on blues and spanish had awesome retrieve speed for spinning metals 132cm also takes a lot of line so if your sticking with mono this will hold it i use mine for spinning for tailor on the rocks or beach fishng with the kids however my brother has landed a 10 kg spaniard on it and mac tunas around 8 kg if im spinning on the rocks i use my dog fight or stella best thing is you get 2 spools with it so great for having a lighter braid and bigger one for its size it is damn light , cheers
  7. thanks for the advice think i might be best just leave it to the tackle store. SZ1 thanks for the advice after its upgraded defiantly something to remember I do dial the drag up sometimes in certain circumstances, dont wont to find myself being drag in lol cheers mate
  8. Hi i am hopeless and a total amateur in regards to diy reel maintance thought i would start with something which might be a bit easy which i been wanting to get done. I have a saltiga dogfight which i want to upgrade the drag washers to carbontex it seem on principal quite easy but has anybody done this and are there any pitfalls i have to be careful off. Any advice would be good have seen a u tube video for a spheros upgrade but cant seem to find video or step by step for any of the saltiga's cheers

theres two walls personaly prefer iluka's its longer and if its a south easterly in regards to the walls in the past can get packed if there are a big run of LT about hasnt happend since 2007 due to dirty water since the start of haveing wet summers and best time is april. to be honest if the tuna arent running pretty quite we could see one person only on the yamba wall on the iluka max was about 8 snd its a damn long wall defianlty wear comfy boots the flat part of the wall is full of apple to grapefruit size stones. Hope you have a good trip. Hope the water is clear for you plenty of live bait around and big jews if the tuna and spanish are not there .
  10. Damo the penn cost between 90-130so cheap great for metals or look at the diawa monster mesh rods this doesnt sound to bad 702MHS-SIC Spin 2 7’0” Med Hvy its pe 3-6 however came across a rod which will chuck 85 grams plus smaller poppers ier up to 150 rated pe 6- 8 but will have to pm you details defiante bargin .
  11. Lord howe from all reports is great for lbg heared there might be even a lbg guide service running i read somwhere who will take you to the spots but not sure if it was lord howe maybe worth looking in to. fishing wise lordhow is live bating which is o/h reels and rod to suit however you can still live bait with a spinn reel por lure fishing . If you spinning with metals while chasing tuna you will need to wind very fast as you dont have a high speed reel if you just popper fishing not an issuse. Main decsion you will have to make rod wise is are you spinning metals or poppers as very few rods do both as popper rods dont tend to cast 65 or 85 grams well . if spinning the best budget rod is the penn big game surf 10 foot lots of mates use them and land blues and spanards to 20 kg no probs the daiwa 80 tn is a good rod as well for this as for poppers the shimano gt is the entry level popper rod it throws 100 gr - 250 poppers and as a starter popper rod cant go wrong i know the price looks steep but trust me most good popping rods cost 900+ As for me personaly i do live bait occasionay but tend to spin and popper fish spin for tuna popper for Gt or kings and have differnt rods for each . hope that helps a bit

My fishing buddy convinced me to do a mad weekend trip to iluka and fish the rockwall weather was great we also kept constantly watching the surf cams for yamba and Iluka however they were very deceptive. the water colour was shocking at low tide brown treacle water came running out casting out to sea the water was so dirty that lures were hopeless obviously no LT's around but saw them busting up out wide as for live bait only this morning did the yakkas appear however saterday was a write off . we did manage a few tailor on pilchards which be came a last resort on saterday afternoon and lots of sharks the tailor ended up as jew bait as we did watch a 23 kg jew get landed on saterday morning taken on a big filet . Unfortuanltey the best we managed was a huge shovel nose. Unfortunatly one of those weekends. One bonus was i hadnt been there before so at least have gained some insight . Thought i would post this report mainly in case anybodies thinking over heading north over easter if your lucky it will clear up.
