  1. Going to be fishing outside Sydney for some flatheads for dinner and then hopefully get into some kings and if I can't wil be back in for some bream and then try to catch a Jew or 2 through a night. Or just maybe feed a whole lot of fish a whole lot of burley!

  2. I recently fit my setup with 50LB braid (maybe overkill) and 80LB leader. Set the drag at 8kg and hooked it to the fridge in the garage and tested it. I was quite happy and am sure next time out it will pick up a big fish if I can hook one. All in all the 12kg rod and 12kg to 20kg reel set with 8kg drag will work good after my fridge/garage test (if you call it a legit test). Cheers Andrew.

  3. If I set the drag up with 10kg drag and use 80lb main line will that be ok? My main problem is not the weight of the fish it is the fish rubbing the line on reefs etc and breaking it off that way. That's why I want to put heavier line to stop losing tackle so easy. I am not catching any over a metre and if I do find out how and where to catch them it will definatly be time for an upgrade.

  4. It is a pfleuger contender lever drag overhead reel capable of up to 20kg. Fishing for kings with bait. I also assumed that seemingly I only set my drag at one third the breaking strain so 10kg drag would be on with 30kg line so 30kg line will only ever put 10kg strain on the rod. I could be wrong with this thought. Unsure. Thanks Andrew

  5. I have a 12 kg rod and was wondering other peoples opinion on what the heaviest line you would attempt to put. I would assume that 50lb braid shoul be fine but I would like to go as heavy as possible. My reel is definatly tough enough for 100lb but at the same time I don't want to snap my rod. Thanks Andrew

  6. i generally take out 2x rods when chasing kings one with 600m of 80lb braid with 150lb leader for bigger ones and fish with 50lb braid 80lb leader to start with, if u get bricked to many times on the light rod i just swap over to the heavy outfit it always pays to have a back up option when fishing for any species as u never know what will come around, some people will say its over kill but im sic of loosing line all the time cost a fortune!

Wish I had the problem of losing line. All I do is lose a lot of bait lol. I am with him. Heavy is good as if they are on they will smash your livie no matter what and it's better to land one than lose 6. Cheers.

  7. I burley frequently with a burley bomber to drop my burley on the bottom where i fish. I have had good success with burley but the last time I fished at night I didnt use it as I was lazy. I got lucky and caught 2 jewies 65cm long. I was wondering if burleying is a technique used for jew or does it attract too many other fish which scare them away? Not sure but I am going to try anyway. Not asking for any secrets, just wondering if burleying is a waste of time for jews as it can be hard work chopping up pillies all night. Cheers Andrew

  8. Why don't both options get done? Education and lifejackets? When I go rockfishing I wear a pfd and it makes me feel more comfortable. I only wear it as one time my cousin almost died from going in. He was very lucky. If it wasn't for him I would wear nothing and just say make them learn. I have seen what can happen and was lucky for my cousin to get away with it. We are Australian and just were too cocky and got taught a lesson. Some lessons could be worse. Sorry for the strong opinion but its close to me. I know 99% fish safe but 1% don't which ruins it fo everyone as the media blows it out. But even if it saves 1 life a year I thinks it's worth it. Cheers andrew

  9. Unfortunatly we live amongst many uneducated people of all sorts. Educating will definatly help but it won't stop people from drowning. Some people have confidence to the max and thinks they are invincible but the sad matter to the fact is that mother nature doesn't pick or choose it just does what it wants. The only thing that saves the experienced people from dying is they know when to stay at home. If by some chance even the most experienced rock fisherman gets taken in you are in trouble. I say suck it in and make them compulsary for everybody to stop deaths. I know they may not be the most comfortable way to fish but it's better off than being dead. I think that lifejackets are a must as where would you start any other way? Education? Our government can't even organize a piss up in a pub! And how many people take note? Most but not all. I don't want to offend the exp rock fishos who know they won't die but nothing is for sure is it. I say make lifejackets compulsory for rock fishos to save lives and fine them too if they aren't wearing them. Saves some poor old police officer from having to tell just one person that their loved one is dead I think it's a winner. Once again, some people are against wearing them and I am not trying to offend, just hoping no one else dies from a sport we all love. Cheers Andrew

P.S Maybe even making it compulsory to wear them atoms open ocean only? I don't know, something though. Ask the families of the recently passed people what they think? I'm sure they would have something to say. Cheers again and happy fishing.

  10. I am fishing this weekend regardless. In my experience I find that when the wind is up and the seas are bigger I find that the actual catching of good fish is better. The only down side is it's uncomfortable and the wind plays havoc on drifts and the lines. I have always seemed to do better on bad weather days than good. I don't know if this is just a coincedence so if anyone has their ideas post them. I will let you know if it made the fishing ordinary this weekend. Thanks.

  11. Keep on trying and they will come. I fish for bream also while fishing for Jews. Need to pass time while waiting. They can also pretty much hook themselves too. They don't nibble they normally just grab it and run anyway. Nice bream too. Cheers Andrew.
