  2. G'day Raiders

Decided to go to the Georges Last night for some Muddies.

At the end end of the night we ended up with 3 Mud crabs with one very large muddy which weighed weighed in at 1.9 kilos "absolute chunker" and measured 14 cm from the tip of the shell to the back and 20cm along the horizontal of the shell.

    Here are a few pics

  3. I saw a fellow fisho ( possibly raider) at Parsley Bay cleaning table with 3 monster cuttle fish that filled a 20 litre plasterers bucket. I'd never seen them that big. He reckoned they were great eating and went on to suggest that if I had ever eaten salt n pepper squid at my local chinese restaurant it was very likely I had eaten cuttle fish of similar size to his.

I couldn't get over the size, the beak was larger than the average sulphur crested cockatoo's beak. :1yikes:

I have caught a very large cuttlefish off Bare Island in Botany.

    Absolute monster he was.

    .Ended up throwing him back.

  4. I think the reports about the mud crabs were from the main channel in the h'bury

That is right all mud crabs were caught in the main channel of the hawkesbury where there was good amount of current.

I cant give away my spot, cause everyone will go and clean them out. :(

Good Luck to you all anyways with your crabbing.

  5. Fair enough, I had no idea where you were from.

P.S. do you end up with many blue swimmers as a by catch?

Only once in the Hawkesbury but never in the georges river. It also depends on where you crab. The further down river the more chance of getting blue swimmers.

  6. Mud Crabbing, Stan again

This is not an attempt to piss you or anyone else off, but I am wondering why after such a great haul in the Hawkesbury did you want to try the Georges? I only ask because if I'm onto something good I stick to it.

P.S. that female was one huuuuge crab!

Georges River is the river I always crab its just that going to the Hawkesbury is a big trip for me and costs allot of money.

  7. Geez mate look at the views of the post 2,338... is that a record.

Funny if 2,338 ppl where out crabbing this week end thats alot of chilli.

I know it just keeps on getting higher and higher.

I know it just keeps on getting higher and higher.

soon there will be no mud crabs left.

  8. I generally use witches hats as you are allowed 5 per person but you have to make sure you have plenty of spare nets as they get ripped to shreds when you get the big crabs tangled in their.:1yikes: :1yikes:

For pots you are only allowed one per person.

Best bait for muddies is fresh mullet.

  9. G'day again Mr Crabbin'.

May I ask what bait you were using in your crab nets on the Georges? :biggrin2:

    cheers

    Hooky

I was using cut up mullet for bait.

Hey crabbin,I see that you are using a witches hat net on the female there (looks almost 2kg !!), was that what you were using up the hawkesbury?

I was using cut up mullet for bait.

I was using the witches hats in the hawkesbury with 2 pots as well.

  10. Gday Fellas

Tried the Georges for some muddies. Not much luck however. All up we ended up with 2 muddies. One very good sized female and one small male which had to be thrown back.

Also we caught a few bream and a very good size sand whiting.

  11. OOOOOhhhhh did it get real cold in here.. or am i sencing someone doesn't catch many mud crabs???? :074:

Mud crabbin: Congradulations on the great feed..

I know absolutly nothing about crabbing but you have inspired me to give it a go!!!

In relation to certain "other" posts

I guess a little "Wine" makes the crabs that much sweeter!!!! :yahoo:

    ENJOY!!!

Thanks mate, the mud crabs went down beautifully.

By the way most of the crabs were full of meat. :biggrin2:

    Cheers mate.

  12. G'day Fellas, me again.

Tonight i'm going to try the Georges for some Mud Crabs. :1fishing1:

This time I will make sure I take the camera with me on the boat and take photos of the mud crabs.

Thats if I get any tonight (hopefully).

    I'll let you'se know how I go.

  13. I will have to say that I think that it is a little unfair that some of you guys here doubt the integrity of someone that they have never met,let alone someone who has put up a post showing us all ,what in anyones language is one hell of a catch.

There is no doubt that ,that in the Hawkesbury river there would be ideal places that would provide crabs in these numbers,I guess the real question is where!

,I think it unlikely that "crabbin" will enlighten us to any great degree of where he caught them ,and rightly so-imagine what would happen if he was to tell us .....how many crabs would be there in six months time?.

Stop the bullshit and start fishing is what I reckon.

    - my tip is mangroves = mudcrabs ,go look.

    Simon

Oh and by the way another tip on catching these mud crabs is

Most of the Mud crabs are caught pretty close to dense mangroves and mouths of creeks in the later part of the afternoon and throughout the night.

Thank You Simon for your concern.

If Stan wants pics of mud crabs with my boat on the Hawkesbury I will give them to him just to show him that i'm not lying.

Youre spot on about mangroves for the mud crabs.
