  1. skillion - i stand corrected. thanks guys for the info i think i will give avoca a try. cant believe people throw stuff, thats pretty lousy
  2. was thinking of going down to the skilton to try our luck off the stones tomorrow. having never been there before, thought it would be a good idea to ask a few questions first. we have been fishing the rocks for a while. does anyone go there often? any reports and advise would be great hoping for a pelegic live baiting and dead baiting maybe some lures if conditions permit. i have heard mixed reports with regards to safety and the fishing. thanks in advance
  3. hi everyone, i hope someone will know??? i fish in the hawkesbury land based and was thinking there has to be squid in there somewhere. i mainly fish around the marina near the hawkesbury river train station. there seems to be alot of bait fish around. i was just inquiring if squid can be caught around that area or would i be better off trying for something else. any help would be great. dont get out much, thought you guys would have the answers. thanks in advance.
  4. hope there will be some fish around on the wend. going for a rock fish in the area. would love to catch a bonnie great pics of idiot. where's his cape and mask?????? common sense....not as common as u might think!
  5. i think its funny how fussy they can be. i guess it keeps us coming back though!
  6. Decided to go out again under bridge..... this time with a diffferent plan. normally i just bait fish with shop brought baits. As we are limited to public transport it makes bait gathering and transport a bit of a problem. so arrived close to 6am on first train in. was squidding straight away in the dark and standing there thought you idiot go move around to the wharf and the LIGHTS. It was early... cut me some slack. after 10 mins squid were everywhere. i only managed 1 all day , its so frustrating to be able to see them and have none of them show any interest. i through 15 colours, different sizes and rigs at them for nothing. with the one i had decided to hit the deeped water. As i am rigging up the guys next to me hooks, gaffs and lands 71cm king. i thought this should be good. while watching large rod thought id look for some smaller fish and spotted some pike (i think they were pike) hooked one on pilly backup bait and lost him when he strted to jump. great fun on light gear 1-3kg spin. next got the shock of my life. while i had been at the point there was a school of squid at my feet they just disapeared, then to my suprise 2 fairy penguins swam past chasing some bait. great little speedsters. i could not beleive it. then not ten minutes later a school of what i thought were tailor atfirst but turned out to be mullet swam by under the bridge towards the heads. it was 10m across. that was enough excitment for one day so packed up and headed around for one last shot at some squid. long story short.... they won. great morning on the water trying to resize pics. ill get it eventually
  7. thanks guys thats what i thought. have heard good things about slim beauty, so will give it a shot. think i need a current knot book cheers
  8. went under bridge again today to try for squid. saw 1 but could not catch one for the life of me. used back up pillies and prawns for some small snapper and one smallish flounder. fished low tide hope everyone else did a bit better.
  9. went out under harbour bridge to flick some lures. at first no interest then a school of yakkas appeared and were a bit scared of something underneath unfortunatly couldnt tempt anything. saw lots of letherjackets, they were even attacking squid jigs. great to be out again and will def. do that again on my way to work. i was trying an albright for first time and noticed it was struggling abit to get through guides (should have checked the connection) next cast lost good vibe lure, sent to the horizon. ps do people prefer uni or albright knot for line to line connections? think i will stick with uni
  10. well, went fishing on the hawkesbury on sat morning from 3am till 8 with the wife. fished near the rail bridge. baits were salted pilchards/slimies and left over uncooked banana prawns from xmas. arrived at intended spot to find the small beach that once was a very comfortble spot to fish was no longer there. it is now filled in with large boulders. setting up took awhile because i forgot my head torch, so had to share small keyring torch. ended up with 1 bream (released) and lots of bites, lots of got dusted by unknown on pilchard 2 hook rig on 15kg leader after 3 min fight. sophie also got done by something on 7kg flurocarbon not happy great morning out.......just remember your mozzie spray
  11. well, went out again today Fished under bridge from 6 till 10am. (on the milsons point side) started searching for squid around kelp... only one follower all day and couldnt get him with 6 diff. jigs. started bait fishing in bay and only managed small snapper and one good run but was bitten off. no burley, bait was prawns and salted pillies there were lots fishing under the bridge so i decided to finish up there..more snapper. i didnt see any decent fish landed all day. hopefully get out again in the morning before work... trying to ease my way back in after the break.
  12. first post here. long time reader finally got around to joining. great source to get a fix and keep an eye on whats happening. finally got out fishing for the 1st time in months, due to a thumb injury. thought i would take it easy and fish light to test my limits. set out on new years day with wife, mother and gradmother down to fig tree bridge. great spot to fish. safe family friendly and it even has chairs. Sophie started off with a smll flattie that got off at the rocks(easy release). had some breakie and then it started to rain so everyone left me and headed to the car. as soon as the doors closed i was on to a few bream, nothing large so finished up the bait and headed home for cold beer great to just be on the water, cant wait for a kingie session in harbour, i hear they are all over the place
