  1. Another important factor when rock fishing is wave period. There is a big difference between 1.5m swell with 5 second period and 1.5m swell with 15 second period. Long-period swell accumulates energy and travels faster resulting in larger swell when it comes to average wave height.

  2. I fish Palm Beach rocks quite a lot. The rocks at southern end of Palm Beach can be very productive for squid. The area around the swimming pool can be productive as well although I haven't fished that area much. Trying to catch squid off the beach itself is probably waste of time. The beach on the Pittwater side (Station Beach) might hold some squid. However, it's very shallow. Palm Beach Public Wharf is also worth a try. This was my best session on squid from April 2019 from the Palmy rocks.

  3. 1st time post as far as fishing reports go.

I hit Harbord rocks early this morning with my mate. We were there before the first light and the swell was low (about 1m). Target fish was drummer. After berleying up with a mixture of bread, prawn pellets and sea cabbage I baited up with a piece of prawn and cast out. It was still dark and I couldn’t even see my float.

Within a minute I felt a pull on my line. I lifted my rod and felt weight at the end of my line. I was on. After a short tussle I managed to get him up to the surface and my mate netted a chunky drummer for me. He went 38cm.

The next couple of hours were pretty quiet without a nibble. I was using sea cabbage to avoid pickers. Suddenly my float went under…I lifted the rod and felt some weight and then the tell-tale surge of the drummer tail told me I was on. After a short but a spirited fight another drummer was in the net. This one went 35cm.

After this I caught a Rock Cale which was released. My mate managed to catch a few yakkas on prawns.

By 9.30AM we decided to call it quits and head home. All in all, it was a fun day. Never get tired of catching drummer on light tackle.

I was fishing with my 1-530 ISO rod (size 1, 5.30m long) and a Daiwa Cygnus 3000H LBD (Lever Brake) Reel with 2.5PE main line and 2.5PE (10lb) leader, an ISO float and size 6 Gamakatsu Pan Fish Green Hooks.

Well didn't my day just get better? We took our kids to the playground at Tarban Ck and my wife says "why don't you bring your rod?". Well I'm not one to disobey my wife, so I did!

    In a 15min session, 147cm just became 201cm, with a 54cm fish:

Caught on a 2 inch Bass minnow on a 1/32oz jighead. At Tarban Ck. This one's for you @maccapacca...now you know that they're at your stomping ground (I put this one back of course!).

I've now safely stashed the gear away, lest I use up all of my luck before my whiting session tomorrow.

Well done Little_Flatty. It looks like you got that telescopic landing net and you've been using it. How do you find it? I haven't had an opportunity to use mine yet.

  5. For the basic shore jigging technique have a look at this video. For my shore jigging I use slow blatt jigs and Shore Gun rods although there are many other brands. What jig weight and size  you are going to use depends on your rod rating. I have two rods, one for jigging with 10g-20g jigs and second one for 40g-60g jigs.

Be prepared to lose a lot of jigs if you fish a very snaggy bottom.

  6. If you mean the enclosed swimming area, I've never seen anyone fishing there. You may try your luck in the morning when there are no swimmers. The jetty is a good spot but it's packed during the day but if you go early you can find a spot. Rocks on the north side of the jetty are worth trying and usually there's a spot or two.  I fished Parsley Bay quite a lot couple years ago and I caught 61cm Trevally there. I also caught tailor, flathead, luderick, bream, squid, yakka, red morwong. Best times are at dawn and dusk. Use burley.

lol what a lucky shot :D Even you are using the reel I want to buy :D nice I was looking at digitaka shop. There are Daiwa BG reels but there is no 3000 in the offer. Is this a different model ? They look similar...

    https://www.digitaka.com/list.php?category=8&series=SPINNING REEL&item=BG

I'm not sure if they are the same models. Maybe these are made for Japanese market . In my opinion BG 3500 is too heavy for the rod you want to buy. 100 g difference might not seem like a big difference but you will feel it after a couple hours of jigging.

BG 3000 is available from Fishraider sponsor Dinga:

    https://www.dinga.com.au/daiwa-bg-3000-spinning-fishing-reel-22232d.html

If shipping from Australia to Norway is too expensive, check ebay or a shop.

I have read a lot of good opinions about Daiwa BG SW 3000 Reel like good quality for a good price. or mb Palms rod quality is too high for this reel... you know like with computers. Why should I buy a very powerful graphic card when the processor is very weak... t_T

I use the same reel Daiwa BG 3000 spooled with PE 2.0 braid. BG 3000 is a good value for money. With my setup I can cast 40g jigs 70-80m without too much effort.

@EnOz43 would you write a word why you prefer Palm then MC ?  SFSGS-103H+ and Evolution KGS-962MH are quite similar it is actually a very nice example to say a bit about the differences you feel between them :)

SFSGS-103H+ is a bit longer which helps when you fish off the rocks. It's also more responsive. It's very difficult to explain it. It's like buying a new car. Both a BMW and a Kia will get you from point A to point B but which one would you buy if you have enough money?

    :)

  10. Both rods are pretty similar in terms of lure weight you can cast. ShoreGun Evolv SFSGS-992 SS is longer by 5” and you could use heavier line PE 0.6-2.0.

I own 2 Palms rods, ShoreGun SFGS-80L and SFSGS-103H+, and a Major Craft KG Evolution KGS-962MH. I prefer Palms rods but you would be happy with either especially if this is your first shore jigging rod.

Yeah cheers EnOz43 ended up getting the Palms Shore Gun F series XH considering they were a $100 cheap and built on the same blanks as the EVOLV Blue Runner.

What reel do you match with your SFSGS- 103XHBL?

I have SFSGS-103H+ BL not SFSGS- 103XHBL. SFSGS-103H+ BL is rated 1.2 - 3.0 PE, 30-70 g lure and I match it with either Daiwa 3000BG or Shimano Sustain 5000FG. I used it once with Saragosa 6000SW but it was a bit too heavy for jigging. I prefer to use lighter reels otherwise my arm starts to feel tired quickly. Your Daiwa TD Sol II should be fine for your rod. Cheers and enjoy your rod.

  12. Palms Shore Gun EVOLV Blue Runner shore jigging rods are not cheap but they are nice rods. I have a couple of them, SFGS-80L and SFSGS-103H+ models. Model SFSGS-103XHBL, 10ft 3in long, 30-100g lures, 15-40lb line rating fits your criteria and it’s within your budget ($430). I also have a MajorCraft KG Evolution but I prefer Palms Shore Gun rods. 13. Hi all,

Long time reader, first time poster. I usually fish Bundeena shore and most of the time I catch blackfish. However, being a long drive from home I’m looking for a new spot closer to home to target blackfish. I’ve read about this spot, the lamp post on Gallipoli Point, in the “Sydney’s top fishing spots” magazine and it has been mentioned on this forum as well. I was wondering if this spot is accessible from the shore. I’m not asking for location. I went there yesterday and it seems that only access is through private properties above that spot. Another spot I’m curious about and whether is accessible from the shore is Hungry point (the Hatcheries). Cheers.
