  1. Another important factor when rock fishing is wave period. There is a big difference between 1.5m swell with 5 second period and 1.5m swell with 15 second period. Long-period swell accumulates energy and travels faster resulting in larger swell when it comes to average wave height.
  2. I fish Palm Beach rocks quite a lot. The rocks at southern end of Palm Beach can be very productive for squid. The area around the swimming pool can be productive as well although I haven't fished that area much. Trying to catch squid off the beach itself is probably waste of time. The beach on the Pittwater side (Station Beach) might hold some squid. However, it's very shallow. Palm Beach Public Wharf is also worth a try. This was my best session on squid from April 2019 from the Palmy rocks.
  3. Thanks BN. Yeah, those hooks in size 8 and 6 are the best for Drummer and Luderick.
  4. 1st time post as far as fishing reports go. I hit Harbord rocks early this morning with my mate. We were there before the first light and the swell was low (about 1m). Target fish was drummer. After berleying up with a mixture of bread, prawn pellets and sea cabbage I baited up with a piece of prawn and cast out. It was still dark and I couldn’t even see my float. Within a minute I felt a pull on my line. I lifted my rod and felt weight at the end of my line. I was on. After a short tussle I managed to get him up to the surface and my mate netted a chunky drummer for me. He went 38cm. The next couple of hours were pretty quiet without a nibble. I was using sea cabbage to avoid pickers. Suddenly my float went under…I lifted the rod and felt some weight and then the tell-tale surge of the drummer tail told me I was on. After a short but a spirited fight another drummer was in the net. This one went 35cm. After this I caught a Rock Cale which was released. My mate managed to catch a few yakkas on prawns. By 9.30AM we decided to call it quits and head home. All in all, it was a fun day. Never get tired of catching drummer on light tackle. I was fishing with my 1-530 ISO rod (size 1, 5.30m long) and a Daiwa Cygnus 3000H LBD (Lever Brake) Reel with 2.5PE main line and 2.5PE (10lb) leader, an ISO float and size 6 Gamakatsu Pan Fish Green Hooks.
  5. Well done Little_Flatty. It looks like you got that telescopic landing net and you've been using it. How do you find it? I haven't had an opportunity to use mine yet.
  6. Recently I got a telescopic net (PRO TRUST Telescopic Landing Net Set Real MAX Versal Arm 300) from eBay. It's made of glass fibre. Extended length: 3m. Collapsed length: 44cm. It's perfect if you want mobility and you don't want to carry an ISO telescopic net. These are not cheap though (about $150 with shipping). Cheers
  7. As king chaser suggested get some other jigs which might be more suitable for the area you are fishing. Maybe your jig is supposed to be used from the boat in a deeper water and you are trying to get it to work from shore. If your jig is sinking too fast you can try a faster retrieve. You can try Shimano Coltsniper: https://www.dinga.com.au/shimano-coltsniper-wonderfall-light-jigs-wonderfall.html
  8. For the basic shore jigging technique have a look at this video. For my shore jigging I use slow blatt jigs and Shore Gun rods although there are many other brands. What jig weight and size you are going to use depends on your rod rating. I have two rods, one for jigging with 10g-20g jigs and second one for 40g-60g jigs. Be prepared to lose a lot of jigs if you fish a very snaggy bottom.
  9. If you mean the enclosed swimming area, I've never seen anyone fishing there. You may try your luck in the morning when there are no swimmers. The jetty is a good spot but it's packed during the day but if you go early you can find a spot. Rocks on the north side of the jetty are worth trying and usually there's a spot or two. I fished Parsley Bay quite a lot couple years ago and I caught 61cm Trevally there. I also caught tailor, flathead, luderick, bream, squid, yakka, red morwong. Best times are at dawn and dusk. Use burley.
  10. I'm not sure if they are the same models. Maybe these are made for Japanese market . In my opinion BG 3500 is too heavy for the rod you want to buy. 100 g difference might not seem like a big difference but you will feel it after a couple hours of jigging. BG 3000 is available from Fishraider sponsor Dinga: https://www.dinga.com.au/daiwa-bg-3000-spinning-fishing-reel-22232d.html If shipping from Australia to Norway is too expensive, check ebay or a shop.
  11. I use the same reel Daiwa BG 3000 spooled with PE 2.0 braid. BG 3000 is a good value for money. With my setup I can cast 40g jigs 70-80m without too much effort.
  12. SFSGS-103H+ is a bit longer which helps when you fish off the rocks. It's also more responsive. It's very difficult to explain it. It's like buying a new car. Both a BMW and a Kia will get you from point A to point B but which one would you buy if you have enough money?
  13. Both rods are pretty similar in terms of lure weight you can cast. ShoreGun Evolv SFSGS-992 SS is longer by 5” and you could use heavier line PE 0.6-2.0. I own 2 Palms rods, ShoreGun SFGS-80L and SFSGS-103H+, and a Major Craft KG Evolution KGS-962MH. I prefer Palms rods but you would be happy with either especially if this is your first shore jigging rod.
  14. When it's dissolved in water it might have paste consistency. It's usually mixed with bread.
