  1. 65cms is a good kingie. Also heard of 20lb firline dying boatside on a 30lb spanish mackeral causght on a 2500 Daiwa Sol. Bought some fins braid today instead!! However, correct me if i am wrong but a 4 metre tinny rated for 5 people?? I have a 4.55 only rated for 4. Also your report states three fish were caught and the photos show 3 distinct fish however you admitted that one of them was undersize at 58cms. If i am wrong then fine but if you are keeping undersize fish and taking too many people in a boat then a public board is probably not the place to be talking it up. If i am wrong then i apoligise and this post should confirm to people that turning a blind eye to such practises is not the thing to do. You don't have to get in a blue and get punched out, shot, stabbed etc and noone is asking you too but when you see a mate do something they may not even no is wrong a friendly suggestion should be given.
  2. Hi All, I am about 3/4 the way through my flies however i have had to pack up the vice and head to NZ for family matters and will not be making it back to Oz for the next two weeks or so . This was not a planned trip and has meant i have left a number of things half done in the lead up to Christmas including the fly tying. I will happily post one off to each individual when i get back. Sorry to do this to everyone.
  3. Hi Guys, Sorry i am dragging the chain a bit too. I have been flat out with Christmas chores and work not fishing/tying!! Also i have abandoned the shrimp pattern i was tying up cause they don't look anywhere near as good as those tied by yellow submarine!! I will howver have some small baitfish immitations tied soon and will post them ASAP. Sorry again but it will be done soon. Otherwise i can post them to individual addresses if need be...
  4. Awesome fish!!! What gear did you use to land them, weight of rod, line brand and weight rigging etc?? Caught on SP or bait. Any info would be good. If the SP or bait is a secret weapon then i understand it is just i am looking for a jewie rig and will hopefully be buying it on thursday or friday the trouble is i haven't made up my mind what i should get!!
  5. I think i would have spent about $120 or so on plasitcs so far however all of them have been bought at between 20 and 50% off. I think this is definately the best way of doing it if possible as you just get so much more (notice you don't save any more but get more!!)
  6. How long do we have Nick?? I finish exams on the 16 so say close to the end of the month some time???
  7. Does anyone know anywhere that is getting rid of fly tying material on the cheap. I have a bit but have not really done much trying myself and have tended to buy my flies. I know a a lot of places are selling off their fly gear cheap cause of the plastics boom.
  8. Funny. Seems that there a some mixed reviews about them. I did my 1-3kg Sic Stick Pro rod tip when i got snagged and didn't realise the braid had wrapped aound the last eyelet. Went to do a straight pull and snap!! Anyway was just going to convert the new last eyelet to a proper end eyelet for $6 when i decided to call Studwick. They would retip the end for $25 having sent them the rod. Alternatively i could cut the butt section of the rod out and mail it to them with $77 and they would replace it. Neither option souonded that good to me until i was informed that for $102 they would do both!! Anyway that service made me think that i will go that way for the next rod as well, plus if i can save a dollar or two getting it with 50% off then it should be really good value.
  9. i'll try up some prwn immitations that are the goods for bream and flatties. Wouldn't mind doing a freshie fly swap as well!! And by the way, i agree. good job Nick!!
  10. Thanks for the info guys although i still don't know what i should do . I will definately have a good look for a deal on the rod and then hopefully that will free up some cash for the reel. I suppose most of my fishing will be sps and lures so maybe i will go without the baitrunner and could always pick one up later. One the big jew front one of my mates got spooled using a 3000 series Shimano ? and 6.5 kg braid so i think i will go on the heavier side and from what i hear the kingies will still smash me!! Sounds like fun
  11. Count me in. Fly swap not wife swap!!
  12. Weiry, I wasn't having a go. Hands down high end Sage and Loomis are better rods and if i had the cash i would buy the high end as well, it is just not everone does. I think at the end of the day the important thing is that we are both very happy with our purchases and will enjoy them no end. If only life was more like that Merceds ad!! Born old and get younger. However i am a uni student and fly fisho. Not a good combo so it won't be any sage or loomis for me for a while Temple Fork was the best that i could reasonably afford. Having said that they are much better IMHO than what is around in other brands at this price range and well worth saving for. I might be tempted into an Old Florida reel or the like though for serious salt work.
