  1. Thanks guys! Appreciate the quick responses 43 ft...dats a freakin big boat! Might even catch a whale on that thing!
  2. It's my best mates first marriage (hopefully his last ) I wanna take him out to the delicious point of fishing...me too tbh. Pretty sure there is a charter deep sea operator buried in this site somewhere but google aint playing ball...so! Help please? Nothing will happen til March, but I would like to get my *expletive* sorted before then. And if it's possible say hello to the boat operator (this may be a bit confrontational I understand, but if pos I would still like to meet the chap who is going to be a part of ushering my friend into the world of ) We are fairly green when it comes to the fishing, but like being on the water. So even if we score nothing on the boat, should be fun anyways. I was hoping Wollongong for the big fish, just wondering if there is a raider fisher out there who does charters? Will not be a huge group, maybe about 4-6 guys. I will be googling and calling charter operators in the area but, since this site is here, well you know. Anyways if you can lemme know? pm me or w/e. Ta fisherpeople Fry.
  3. hey mate. I was up there last week, didnt drop a line but went snorkeling. the water was FREEZING!! 18 degrees (which from what I have heard means that the fish are less inclined to bite, less active etc.) if the fishing doesnt work for you go for a snorkel mate. you WILL see fish, i recommend 'Fly Point'. nice area, easy parking, not far from town. if you wanna get serious head to stockton beach (20-30 minutes south from nelson). Little beach wharf has some good black fishing (I have heard) aint been fishing there for donkey's years though. But if the you get nothing, it's still a very nice place to be Good luck!
  4. wow that is a freakin big fishy!!! Grats mate!
  5. Beers were after so they may have affected my memory. Still, big bream. Would love to get one on a hook
  6. I thought this tide was due to the cyclone off fiji? Does this mean there will be another one closer to christmas?
  7. it was freakin freezing in the water! went snorkeling with a couple friends and my brother and his kid instead of fishing. saw some very nice bream 50-60cms easy! but yeah, didnt even throw a line in...food and booze got in the way (had friends down from darwin who weren't that keen on a fish)
  8. i just noticed you were from port stephens....will be heading to fly point on friday arvo/eve/night if you were possibly gonna be in the area? I aint sure what to target out there as it is hard to get relevant details off the web. i figure it's the norm rig, try some softs, throw out some berley, try catch a few mullet and go from there? might look at a squid or two maybe. will be snorkeling on sat morning so if i fail friday night will just try and grab a few fish by hand
  9. ta muchly scratchie! will definately give that a shot. i work mostly weekends so the comps could be a challenge for me to get to but am very keen to meet some ppl who can point me in the right direction. will drop into the tav tomorrow and see what i can see.
  10. Howdy raiders! Me again, it's hols time and i got (almost 2 months spare). For the last 6-ish months been getting back in touch with the fishies, and i gotta say...the itch is getting so bad that i recently had a towbar installed onto my car and have started looking around for boats. i wont get a boat for at least a year, but what this post is actually about is i wanna catch some fish, and meet some people...who can help catch fish thanks to peeps on this forum i have had quite a successful time pulling in flathead. And for the first time in many many many years NOT A SINGLE TINY BONEY BREAM!!!! So yeah, i live in blue mountains, dont mind the drive to city (especially northern beaches), desperately want to get some decent land based fishing done. am fairly green when it comes to fishing techniques etc but am very happy to learn. i'm 28 on my birth certificate but still 12 at heart. if anyone would like a partner on a boat or something i am more than happy to give a couple bucks towards fuel etc because let's face it...ppl never chip in for anything these days and it is just rude to get a free lift and not at least try to offer your generous host some form of remuneration so pm me or reply pls...because the only thing better than fishing alone, is fishing with new mates! Would make my summer even better than it is already going to be.
  11. had a go, found a couple flats where whiting were hanging about, was trying them on poppers but wind was really up (it was the day that massive fire started) got a bunch of average flatties, some where quite fun to pull in (only about 30-40cm). they all went back into the drink Forster marina boat hire...our boat died just when (i am pretty sure) my mate had hooked up a MASSIVE flattie. but cause we had such light gear, and the motor died...grrrr! we lost it. never even had a chance to find out what it coulda been. next time i go forster i reckon i will read-up on Roberta's worming tips. All in all we still had a nice day...and a dolphin practically splashed us...which was very nice.
  12. Gentlemen and ladies! I call upon your skills once again Heading up to forster next week (26-27 november) I have checked out Roberta's tips on nabbing beach worms and will give that a shot. But seeing as I will be with my new fishing buddy (who a few weeks ago nabbed his first decent fishy thanks to your kind words ) I wanted some specific tips on where to go around forster. We are gonna hire a boat (any input about that would be wonderful too) and will be going for whiting, flathead, bream, and hopefully maybe some jews/kingfish/bonito/tailor with some freshly caught live bait. youtube has shown me poppers work on whiting...but they neglected to tell me where they find the whiting. is it anywhere? where on earth do those little beauties like to hide out? So please, help a struggling fisher and his buddy out um...rigs and rods: slightly chunky(10kg) 8' pelagic rod, and a couple lighter rods. Mostly using soft plastics, but ganging up the big rod with the live baits. Thanks in advance!
  13. I can be a little impatient I know. Good thoughts guys. I spose that's why it feels so good when you do get one eventually huh? Cop pulled me over the other day, asked if I knew how fast I was going. I said I was going just as fast as everybody else. He then asked if I had ever been fishing. I conceded that I had. His response? "Ever catch all the fish?" Bastard!!!
  14. If for instance you are trying an area, and you try a tonne of different retrieves with different softs and hards...and you get nothing, like not even a nibble; what are you supposed to assume? I know local knowledge is practically the best and only way to assure yourself a hook-up, but if you can't get that, what are your best options? Move on, or go back later after ploughing through websites? (Having said that, I recently finally got some half decent flatties from ploughing through forums, THANK YOU FISHRAIDERS!!...and then a couple days ago got squat.) Also parenthetically with the whiting popper thing...just where are you meant to look for whiting? Everywhere I have read it says 'mouths of estuaries and similar places...but is it worth throwing the popper out there if you cant see them? The visual bit has me miffed <---Nooob here
