  1. heyas all

fished run in up and run out today at towra to wooloware bay

flicked sp everywhere near mangroves, oyster leases etc

    trolled the weed beds

only managed 3 flatties around 38cms

    and one pike at 42cm

this is not so great for me, and from memory, every time its full moon the fishing isn't so great during the day

if anyone can enlighten me, is it because the fish has fed all night long?

    regards CJ

When the flats arnt working mate try the faster water in the channel and where it comes out into the bay just wide of towra or the deeper water off the flats works sometimes too

    Cheers

    Pete

  2. Hello again everyone

Got 3 nights booked in the LCR National Park next week, and the main focus of the trip is bass fishing. I've never fished freshwater before, so I need a lot of help please :)

Only going to take two outfits, sounds like bream gear should be alright? Was planning on taking 1-3kg tcurve revolution/saros 1000/1.5kg braid and 2-4kg trion/Stradic 2500/3kg braid. These shouldn't be too light should they?

One of the main questions I have is leader- 6lb? 12lb? Really have no idea, but im thinking a bit heavier than bream leaders?

Also, lures; I bought an sx40 imitation and a 45mm River2Sea bubblepop the other day, am I on the right track?

A few questions, and like I said never fished freshwater before so any help would really appreciated.

    Thankyou

    Hamish

You should get a couple of spinner baits too mate and maybe a couple of pencils purple is a good colour for both, plastics slow rolled down panks will work too

Your gear will be fine personally i would use 4-8lb leadder

  3. Went looking for topwater bite after Sundays fun session. Had a surface plastic and a bent minnow rigged up but there was alot of water between the bream and the ones I did see were just lookers.

Changed to a Atomic deep crank and got into them on pontoons and boat hulls. Took home a feed as they were all average size fish.

Good work mate some nice fish there!

The harbour is defently not my strong point and neither are HBs so so im very envious lol

Are you fishing the bets round this weekend?

  4. Thanks for your comtribution Pete, any tips?

    Cheers

Mate all of my fishing other than when i go for blackfish is with lures so im not sure if that would help you but ill drift the whole time and work different water levels to see where the fish are at. I fish over alot of weedy areas and i have found they will hang closer into these areas with the larger tides

Basically you work out your own pattern that suits what you do,

    Good luck mate

    Pete

  5. I do find it is alot harder on the full moon especially on the flats i tend to go deeper but i normally dont take notice of the tide or moon just as long as there is some wind around and the water is moving im happy

    Cheers

    Pete

  6. Unless your bein a dick (meaning people in general) i have found both the water police and marintine are really helpfull and dont cause too much of a fuss most cases they will warn you and let you on your way.

I would think to myself that i was lucky nothing else came of it

    Cheers

  7. Hi raiders,

I have a question in mind, does the size of the hook protruding from my soft plastic matter much? Will a fish go for a lure with less hook coming out or does it not matter?

    Thanks!

Hook size can effect the action of the lure and normally with a larger gape the hook will be longer too

I normally use number 1 or 2 hook with anything up to 4 inch plastics. people talk alot about "short strikes" but i have found normally smaller fish will do that

    Cheers

    Pete

  8. lol i dont know why you guys go so heavy for but anyways

80mm wrigglers in wasabi blood worm and lava, normally 1/16 or lighter heads in up to 5 meters of water or 1/12 when the water is flowing a little faster

3 inch minnows im pearl watermellon or peppered prawn normally 1/12-1/16 but on occasions ill use 3 gram heads if its 6-10 m

and im starting to really like lobbys in the small size hidden weight over weed

    cheers

    Pete

  9. Good work mate how good are friday arvos on the bay :biggrin2:

I was out there too but more towards towra and pretty much did the same as you but also landed a nice 36cm whiting but no bream :(

Are there many pike near the goynes atm? im getting 10 every session :ranting2:

    Cheers

    Pete

  10. Hey Pete

I always see the bream and whiting darting around in the shallows around towra but never thought there would be that many travs there.. you cleaned them up good!

Have never really targeted the bream and travs in the weedy patches with lures but will give them a go now after seeing your many post!

Watch out for me on the weekend invading your patch! :biggrin2:

    Cheers

    Trung

Hey mate ill be out there on friday soo ill take most of the fish but leave some for you

But Seriously its anyones water, i have confidence in catching fish (which does not always work out) but if someone is in a spot that i wanted to try i just go somewhere else, theres a few good places more towards kernell and in the channel between captian cook bridge and ramsgate which is where we found the fish a couple of weeks ago

Post a report up of how you go mate

    Cheers

    Pete

  11. Nice going BB, That's a hot session. You must be pretty handy with the lures.

Sunday mid arvo was kinda windy and you still did alright.

So far I can only manage a few flattties on SP and not consistantly.

Have to try shallow water and Towra soon.

Hey mate keep trying and you will get results! i might even show you around one day next month if your interested?

    Nice Pete

The bream should fire up there on the next new moon

Water must be cold still if your getting pike

Hey Andrew! the water was 18-20 degrees depending where in the bay i was hopefully the pike piss off soon :biggrin2:

I hope the bream are around in the basin in a couple of weeks i got the squidgy final on and apparently it has been super slow down there

    Pete,

Great 'slow' day action. Good to see the bream have shown up and looks like you found a good school of trevally. When they're in a feeding mood, they'll take virtually anything and are probably beating bream to the lure. I enjoy targeting them actually! You're not wrong with the weather - hopefully we really get our spring weather in the next couple of weeks ...

    pmak

    Thanks bud!

We have to meet up ond day on the water for a top water session! And we can target trevs too

  12. OMG - What a great catch!

If you call that a slow day i would love to see you in action on a good day!

Suprised you did not get a bag full of flatties at Towra.. the place is teaming with them.

Well done mate.. you did very well.

    Cheers

    Trung

    Cheers mate!

The Topic is a little bit sarcastic compaired to some days especially when the bream are on :biggrin2: but it still was a very frustrating day missed alot of fish hooks didnt like sticking at all ! After working the way they were bighting we would strike then high stick the rod and reel in really fast untill the hooks set.

We went well on the flatties the other week but we tried heavier weed this time basically just trying to find Bream but bycatch is very welcome

    Thanks

    Pete

  13. Awesome haul of fish!!!! i cant wait to get into the shallows and use my new flats set up. hopefully nail some good fish like you did

what dont you blades get though

I know my blades get too many pike for my liking :ranting2:

I cant wait for the water to warm up! too much rain keeping the temps down!

    Cheers

    Pete

  14. Hey guys hit up Botany sunday mid day to arvo with my mate Trent befor we went out to dinner with a few mates that night.

We started off at towra first drift for nothing other than a couple of pike then decided to move in real shallow to chuck hard bodys and weightless plastics

First cast with the hardbody and i was on to my first of the season hardbody bream

    15wo16r.jpg

Then for the next hour and a half we basically landed a fish every 2nd to 3rd cast with a few bream and a heap of pike thrown into the mix. the best bit was that i actually caught fish on 12 different lures!

Squidgy - wrigglers, lobbys, critters, flick baits, bugs,

Powerbait - gurbs, bass minnows, and hawgs

    Scumline - amphibians and ripjerks

My own blades and the Atomic HB in the first pic

Heres a pic of fish released after our second drift...

    r7iyc2.jpg

And a couple of trevs on a double hook up we had both went 41-42cm

    2r3uk4i.jpg

There were a few bust offs from larger fish and trent lost a flattie that would of gone mid to high 60's easy

So all in all not a bad sneaky sunday arvo fish with 25 or so tevs between 33-42cm,5 bream between 25-33cm a heap of pike and a couple of whiting

We only kept a couple of bream and trevs for trents mate but the rest were released

    Thanks for reading guys

    Cheers

    Pete
