  1. Hi Yarraone, Not sure if you meant to but you quoted me. Think you meant to be asking Mike on Reef Magic about the return trip. Marquis is a private boat not a charter boat. Just need more weather like today and not last week.
  2. Surely you didn't go today Mike. Weather looking good for the weekend though. Rob is taking Marquis up on Sunday. Good Luck
  3. Hi Brad. I bought it a couple of years back and it cost around the $300 mark from memory as I remember they were on sale at the time. I inetended to try it for yellowfin during winter and maybe have a go at small Blacks up at Port but neither fish have been really reliable over the last 2 seasons so at this stage it main use has been as an overly expensive bait jigging oufit for slimeys and sitting around in rod holders waiting for the right fish to appear.
  4. Like the JigWrex range... Put my 20000 Stella on one and balanced perfect...Having said that I'm not so much into jigging but rod and reel feel balanced and capable of way more than I intend to use it for.
  5. I was originally leaning that way but the distribution made me wonder. Either way I'll settle for being in the right ball park.
  6. I think what you have is a Slender Snipefish. They are a red/orange colour (when alive) and school up like bait fish. I have seen them of Sydney and heard of a patch off Jervis Bay last year where someone actually netted one while they were being harassed by a seal. http://www.fishbase.se/identification/specieslist.cfm?famcode=256&areacode=&spines=&fins=&c_code= One defining characteristics is the semi rigid spine mid way down the back.
  7. Gday Luke. We fished Friday from Botany for a couple of dollies and raised a nice marlin we suspect was a Blue. Just need some fishable weather.
  8. I usually use this link http://archive.amol.org.au/collection/hostedwebs/fish/key/couplet0.htm to identify unusual fish which hasn't helped much here possibly need to search wider. Otherwise send a photo to the Australian Museum as I'm sure they will find it interesting to search.
  9. For some people penetration is everything but sometimes what really matters is durability...
  10. Hey Dave, Fished yesterday and current was around 1.5 knots out wide but notice someone else comment here that it was 2-3 knots around the FAD. Not sure where it starts to back off but not much cuurent wide. I gather you're fishing this weekend. If you want more info give me a call. Matty and Nathan have my number.
  11. G'Day Dave. Was still trickling to the south but not 2-3 knots. Should be out tomorrow so will give you and update Friday.
  12. We fished from Botany as well. Colour wasn't great but improved outwide and got temp up to high 24 degrees. Managed to raise a nice striped Marlin which looked to be hooked solid but did a few spectacular jumps as we cleared the deck and threw the hooks.
  13. Hey Boonga, Sorry I missed catching up with you up there but just got back yesterday and found your message this morning. I'm new to this site and not up to speed on the message system.
  14. Jeez your quick Mick... Just got back for a couple of days R&R, then heading back up next Tuesday for a week. Also hearing reports of quite a few large Dollies in the 20kg plus range but we haven't seen one yet and I think yeasterday was our 15th trip in the last 3 weeks.
  15. No Bob...we released all our fish HEALTHY..
  16. We will definately be there that weekend Steve. On "C" at the marina. Will catch up for sure.
  17. Gday Steve, One advantage of going for 4 weeks is fishing when the weather's good and it suits us instead of when some tournament schedule is layed out months in advance for you. However it has been mentioned but no real decision either way as at this stage.
  18. Gday Silvo. No not hanging around for the Interclub. Will be bringing boat back last week of Feb and fish Sydney while no-ones around. Mad Mullet info for Interclub is on website www.nswgfa.com.au
  19. A test post for me as a newbie here. Just got back from Port Stephens Monday after a week and a bit up there fishing on Marquis. Weather was a cracker and the fishing was consistent. Managed to see fish every day and the bait and fish numbers (as well as boat numbers) starting to built on the regular grounds. Hopefully back next week for a couple of days and the week after for another 10 or so.
