  1. Gday mate, I have had the Slammer Live liner for about 2 years and its an amazing reel, I use it for rock fishing. This reel has been through hell and back and with a little bit of care im sure ill have it for 2 more years. Penn have also realeased some new reels they retails for about $100 more than the slammer so im sure they will be preety solid. http://www.tackletour.com/reviewpennpre09.html

    Lbg

I have been fishing of the North Head for the last 4 weekends, And we all have been getting smoked by big kings. Its really hard to Get yakkas down the ladders so we have been live baiting jellybean bonito's and they have been the trick. Another technique we have used is whilst someone has caught a bonito we leave it in the water close to the rocks, you can see kings going for the bonito, so we drop in big sluggos and we have been getting smoked. I wish i could show you photos but I reckon we have lost 10 or more 1mtr plus kings. Keep it easy.
  3. Thanks Guys, Your information is ideal for me, Im gonna be fishing mostly landbased for the time being. Do you have to change up your tactics much eg, lure action and retrieve? What types of areas should I be fishing? I am planning a roadtrip with my GF and she wont go rockfishing with me (smart girl), I am planning to drive from Sydney to Cairns over 15 days, I have been placed in a new job up there. So im wanting to use some bream techniques to target some species up in Cairns to. Any info would be awsome. Cheers
  4. Gday, What are the 10 lures all bream anglers should have in their tackle boxes? Thanks
  5. Okuma X factor 10ft, fuji guides rated to 20lb. $150
  6. Gday, I used to fish FTB alot, It can be a bit hit and miss but there are a few techniques which hopefully may help. On the Hunters Hill side of the bridge there seems to be alot of small tailor which are dynamite live bait, you can either use bait or use small halco twisties (5g max) which is alot of fun as you can see the tailor chase the lure. Have another rod setup so you can launch the tailor towards the pylons. We have caught alot of big flathead this way using live tailor and even tailor strips. On the bbq side of the bridge go right to the end, you will be able to see a few branches in the water. the water depth is probably only 1-2 meters, drop and unweighted prawn or whitebait right next to the branch in the water and you should get some good bream, use a heavier leader about 10lb should do the trick, You could also use sp's if you wanted I have never tried. I have used sp's on the sandbank and it is a very good flathead area, cast as far as you can towards the houses and just slowly roll the plastic back, The key at this spot is to be patient as I have found a slow retrieve is much better than a fast retrieve with lots of movement. I have had success on the squidy wriggler and the squidy fish as it has a more natural action than a flickbait etc... Anyways I hope this helps. Jack

  8. Fishraiders, Got a call from my best mate telling me that he is at one of our favourite fishing spots armed with some bonito we caught from a couple of weeks ago, he said " the water is brown and dirty". Before I could realise what happened I had already got permission from the misses, bought a largie and was parking the car at the spot. I rigged up my new setup (stradic 6000 with a 9ft tirelayo) Threw out the biggest peice of bonnie I could find, It must have been sitting there for about 5 mins and then BANG!!!! My first thoughts of this fish that It could be a nice red, but as the fight wore on and the fish got closer and closer to edge of the rocks it started to wake up. It was a little Rat King around 58cm he was great fun on the new setup. My other mate turned up and we all had baits in the water, we had about 2 loafs of bread out as burley and there was mullet all over the place. There was a feeling in the air that something was gonna happen, I hear "IM ON" and I reel in as fast as I could and then I get smashed in on the retrieve DOUBLE HOOK UP!!!! My mate lost his fish, I think It may have gone legal, My fish was another Rat. So I took out the Midweek Classic with 2 kings, Pitty they were rats but im not complaining. These fish were healthy on there release and swam away to fight another day. Cheers.
  9. Gday Pete, Went for a fish on sunday Arvo in middle harbour, the water conditions were very murky and there was alot of debris which is normally a good sign at "spot x". We hooked up 5 fish in about 30 mins. 1 rat king, 2 keeper bream and 2 small snapper. As quickly as the session seemed to open it was shut, we fished for about another 3 hours for nothing. I am heading down again tonight, I will post a report if anything good is caught. Cheers
  10. Gday mate, I would get a rod at least 9ft or bigger a reel at least in the range of 5000 and above. Their are heeps of spots to catch kings along the coast so I would just do some research on the net. Once you have found the right spot try get there early. You can catch kings on many baits, sometimes they can take the freshest yakka fillet or the freezer burt pillie or a deepdiver lure So its best to have a few different plans. Once hooked my only advice is to hold on tight and dont get scared Tight lines
  11. Thanks Guys, Looks like an overwhelming result, have done a bit of study last night and the specs are preety good. Went for a small flick around Middle Harbour yesterday arvo, Caught a small flattie on a squidgy 55mm flick bait in the pilly flavour and was great fun on the tcurve, I caught him at about 7pm on the run out tide. I Am looking to target bream, does anyone have any successful lures or plastics in their arsenal that they would be willing to give me a clue about or even tell me Cheers
  12. Gday Fishraiders, I have recently got into soft plastics fishing within the last month after a misguided christmas present from a family member. I now have a 2-5 kg tcurve bream spin rod which is an amazing stick but its matched with a not so amazing reel. I am currently on the market for a new spinning reel, I am looking at around the $300 mark if anyone has any ideas?? Tight Lines
