  1. I'm not entirely sure, someone said its a rock cod? Its a bad photo of it from above but we catch them all the time from the rocks up here and I should put up a decent photo of one to find out because I cant find anything on the internet that really looks like it.
  2. Thanks for all the tips guys, some great advice there! I don't suppose any of you have been the the ballina rock walls?? I swear they are the biggest and longest rock walls I have ever seen in my life! and the break is truly awesome, I got sprayed several times while sitting right up on top which I reckon is about 8m above the water. Needless to say I havent quite built up the courage to go anywhere near the bottom! Oh well, no fishing for a while thanks to christmas, maybe I'll get a chance to get a bigger fishing stick for my next outing. My mate landed this 36cm bream on saturday though, so all was not lost. Sorry for the poor picture quality.
  3. My girlfriend and I usually fish the local rivers and such but we have lately been having a go at some of the local rock walls (north coast NSW - Ballina, Brunswick Heads). We've been having trouble, generally losing heaps and heaps of tackle on the rocks and I lost a nice big bream this arvo which really annoyed me. The first problem I guess is that we only have two 6' rods and one 9' rod, this is ok because I can generally cast far enough with the 6' rods and I give the bigger one to my girlfriend so she can cast further. The problem has been more that no matter where I cast I ended up washed up on the rocks, it was an outgoing tide and I tried every single spot on the wall but I just kept getting washed back onto the rocks and snagged. Lost $10 of sinkers in the last two days. So has anyone got any tips on keeping away from those nasty rocks?? A nice fisho down at brunswick told us how to reel in quickly with the rod held high to keep from getting snagged and I've got the hang of this but its more that I can only have the bait in the water for a minute or two before I have to either reel in or end up on the rocks. The thing that really gets to me is that if you leave your line right up close amongst the snags thats where all the fish are!! We just got home from a second day of throwing tackle into the rocks and no fish

    Wat To Do

A padlock sounds like a good first measure, and clamping the wheels seems to be the ideal solution but for a bit cheaper (going with the idea of the chain through the wheel) why not get one of those motorbike locks that are a heavy duty insulated cable with a round key type lock?? they just slip through one of the wheels and are as tough as you get, despite being cable I think they are claimed to be virtually impossible to cut through with anything short of a grinder. I used to use one on my mountain bike.
  5. This is my biggest fish so far We went out 70k on a charter boat from the surfers paradise This was the catch of the day

    Fishing On Dams?

I understand that generally speaking you cant take a petrol motor out onto a dam, but after browsing through some of your photos here I've noticed a couple of you guys out on dams with your petrol motors? So whats the go? can I take my motor out or is it electric motors and paddles only?? I plan to head out on the local dams, Clarrie Hall dam and Rocky Creek dam in northern NSW...

    Outboard Troubles

Cheers guys, thanks for the welcome! I slapped myself for not thinking of the screwdriver as I've taken flywheels off a few cars now... anyway, I cracked the nut fine but couldnt get it off the taper, went down to the auto shop and got myself a harmonic balancer puller which got it off no worries. The coils look fine, leads are shot so are the plugs and the points look like they could be re-set so hopefully this should sort out the little motor. Thanks heaps for the help!

    Outboard Troubles

Hi everyone. I have recently purchased a second hand tinny with an old evinrude 6hp "fisherman" serial: 6602E. We took it out for its first spin yesterday and the motor doesnt want to really rev when in gear, it would only put along slowly but when in neutral it revved fine, although it would take a few seconds before it would respond to opening up the throttle. I think it has an ignition problem because I had it running with the cover off and I got a shock when I touched the spark plug lead. Plugs look a tad old, leads look very old but apart from that everything else seems fine. I have a lot of experience fixing old cars and I want to fix this motor up myself but I'm not sure if I'm going to run into any snags. I found this page: http://www.maxrules.com/fixtuneitup.html which has some great info and I'm trying to pull it apart to get to the electricals but I can't get the damn flywheel off my motor! I cant hold it in place well enough to crack the nut loose, any suggestions?? I just want to know firstly if I should I be doing this myself or should I really be taking this to an expert?? I hate paying people to do jobs that I am perfectly capable of doing myself! secondly, what are the problems that could cause this?? (the carby doesnt have a high rpm mixture adjusting screw, only low rpm.. .this was my first assumption as to what was wrong) and thirdly.. provided I am safe to be working on this thing myslef... how do I hold the flywheel solid so I can get the nut off, and then will the flywheel come off easily, it doesnt appear to have any threads where I can screw a steering wheel puller into as indicated on that website??
