  1. G'day Raiders. On my way to work this morning I found a tackle box ( I live in Grays point near a popular land based spot) it was probaly left behind last night the 21st may, its got a heap of stuff in it , although the soft plastics look like they are about to go off so i might have to use some of them !! If its yours or a friend of yours send me a PM with some details so i can confirm its the owners. Cheers Morgs
  2. Guys , need some help with the size limit for a Maori cod , I've been looking but can't find anything in the nsw site Thanks Morgs
  3. Agree with you there Grant it seems dropping a pearlie will shut down the school in no time. I've found it happens with trag also Morgs
  4. Hey mate , If your using soft plastics give the doyble uni knot a go , easy to start off with, Another good knot is the allbright not. Theres a heap of different ones out there . Just make sure tyey are nice and neat If your braid to leader knot isnt neat or trimmed you can sometimes have dramas with it going through your guides poorly. Itll cut down your casting distance a bit Sqidwards length of leader is pretty spot on however be carfull when your length of leader is so long that the knot winds onto your spool before you cast, if the knots untidy it Can tear off braid when you cast giving you a bad tangle Thats what happened to me anyway Cheers Morgs
  5. well done mate , bet her arms were sore! i love the line " it just looks fishy " i know what you mean! awesome catch Morgs
  6. G'day Raiders, I had a quick search through the forums to see if i could use an old thread but had no luck I have just recently got a new boat and have been getting used to it over the past few months, I'm ready to venture a bit futher from home so wanted some info about logging on to marine rescue. Do most raiders log on? whats the process? When fishing with a mate up coffs he always logs on and get coverage for the days fishing so would rather be safe than sorry apologies if this is an stupid question but any info would be appreciated morgs
  7. Mate that was a close one, a few inches lower and you'd be singing a different tune but thanks for the post, its a good reminder because everyone has had a near miss but it proves it can happen to all of us Did you still fish with the treble or did that wrap up the days fishing ? I just got back from coffs this weekend and saw a young bloke come in the boat ramp with a large treble lodged deep in his hand, poor bloke had been out chasing marlin and had to come in 25 odd miles with it stuck in his hand hope she heals up mate Morgs
  8. Are you using plastics or bait mate? Morgs
  9. Good to see a few bonito coming back on , Glad you and the kids had fun, I think the benifit of those go pro cameras is that you can mount them or wear them so your hands are free to fish (i dont have one but im looking into it) I have a waterproof camera at the moment (panasonic lumix ft2 ) takes good pics above and below water and records in Hi def. I think olympus makes a similar one. They are a good investment happy new year Morgs
  10. Nice report mate, Shame about that lure , someone is going to catch themselves a 20 dollar fish with that lure hanging out his gob! Morgs
  11. G'day guys, thanks for the replies, Yeah he uses the sea anchor and it works quite well( it is a large one) Brad he is going to be fishing wide, around the 150 - 300 m mark. so anchoring is not really an option. yeah the only pics i could find of the parachute anchors are for trawlers so wasnt really sure if you could use them . How big is the biggest sea anchor you can get? maybe there is a larger one than his available? just thinking what could slow him down the best, Thanks again Morgs
  12. Gday raiders, Hoping to get my father in law a parachute anchor for christmas He's already got a large sea anchor/drogue but mentioned he might want to get one. Anyone know much about them, i googled parachute anchors and they look pretty serious, It would be for a 18 ft boat so any thoughts or ideas would be a big help Cheers Morgs
  13. I was going to agree with greg but from your pic its easy to see he was spot on! He probaly deserves half that snapper i reckon well done Morgs
  14. Nice report mate, your dad looked like he had a ball! Morgs
  15. Well done mate , awesome fish. gotta love that feeling when a fish goes from being a baby to a monster in one big run ! Ive got that same lure but havent had much luck with it ,what action do you do with it ? I reckon i might need to upgrade/replace the hooks 2, what hook upgrades ddid you do ? was it hard? good photos 2, the neighbour help you out with that 2 i hope Morgs
  16. It was worth posting about it mate, stuff like that reminds us all to check the handbrake before we jump out of the car, I'll be checking twice this weekend there not much else you can do but have a laugh, no one was hurt so no harm no foul. do you reckon insurance would cover handbrake failure or forgetting to put it on. Morgs
  17. Just got back from up there today mate, Didnt fish this morning but drove down to the beach near the harbour and big dark cloud about the size of a football field about thirty metres off the shore busting up, most likely salmon Had the blokes surfing looking a bit worried, plenting of surface action going on up there at the moment Good luck Morgs
  18. Ha ha have to agree with you mr squidy! i'd be double checking any info given morgs
  19. Thanks for the replies guys, My transducer is sitting a few millimetres. Above the bottom of the hull , from your info i reckon this could be the problem Thanks for the photos geoff, i will try and reposition to match your postion. ( i agree the humminbird website is pretty ordinary) Will be taking it out on the weekend, ill let you guys know if i have any luck Thanks again Morgs
  20. G'day Raiders, Having some issues with a humminbird dx250 sounder that came with a boat i recently picked up it doesnt work when travelling over about 8 knots and when im going slow or drifting the following happens sometimes it will work perfectly then it will change and say im in 174 meters etc and not give a reading of the bottom and other times it will not give a depth but not pick up any image at all. more often than not its giving the wrong / no reading at all i've reset the settings ( although i dont think this is the problem because it goes from working well to not working without touching anything) and I did its self test function and it says everything is normal. Can anyone shed any light on where the problem might be. I'm open to any suggestion, Cheers guys Morgs

  23. G'day Raiders the Girlfriend and i just bought a 5 metre half cabin, took it out for its maiden voyage on sunday just around cronulla, still not heading out very wide untill we get used to the boat we got a feed of flattys , also plenty of undersized ones taking bait , plastics and a greedy little bugger taking a vibe Monday morning me and a mate went out again and picked up some more flattys just off the back of the surf clubs, not as many around as a few weeks ago. my mate also got a good size sargo baker, his only fish of the day and he wasnt real impressed then headed just south of jibbon bommie and threw out a 5 inch nuke chicken jerk shad. as it hit the bottom my 1-3 kilo rod buckled over and the 2000 spool started screaming. as braid started dissapearing i thought i was in trouble, drifting toward where i casted gave me some line back but he still wasnt done yet, 3 more good runs and a good net shot by my mate and the first snapper for the new boat was landed. using 10pnd braid and 10pnd leader also not sure what these ones are? A nice and tasty way to break in the new boat, off to mums tonight to cook up mr snapper for her. Morgs
