  1. Hi Guys, I am looking at having a go at game fishing, trolling and cubing off shore or out wide but have never actauly done it before. All that I know is only theory and would be good to get out there with someone with a bit of knowledge and get a few pointers before I head out myself. If someone with experience in the field is heading out and needs an extra decky id be well keen for it. Im not looking for any secrets just few tips and a good day out on the water. I have my own gear and plenty of experience fishing and boating and can throw in for fuel and bait etc no worries. As of 15th Feb Im free and keen any day of the week. Cheers Jase
  2. Good stuff mate, those bonnies are always good fun on the light gear!
  3. Hi raiders, I don't report much as i work overseas and only get to fish here at home about a month or two out of the year. So heres a little report of how iv been going the last couple of weeks. I fished out of Jervis bay a week and a half ago targeting large king fish. It pretty much rained the whole time but at least the wind was down. Large squid and yakkas were quite easy to come by witch was a good start, anywhere with weed beds holding good numbers of quality sized squid, though couldnt get any slimies as the usual spots i try for them were over run with really small king fish and pretty much every bit of bait that went down was smashed by the little buggers. I down rigged point perpendicular without a touch, also fished around drum and drumsticks drifting in the little bay there and off the point for a heap of kings from 55 to 70cm all on yakkas they werent touching the squid there, but every yakka was smashed. i was surprised to see the small kings taking such large yakkas. Also caught a few good pan size flathead in the bay there on some fresh squid strips. On the calmest day we headed out to the banks with some extra large baits and found a spot in about 19m of water showing up heaps of baitfish and kingfish on the sounder, we decided to drift fish with strips of squid, live squid and yakka's the place was swarming with fish from 60 to 70cm smashing every bait that went down, we boated around 30 under and oversize king fish, most being released and one fish well over the meter mark witch was caught on 50 pound braid with 80 pound leader and took a large live squid witch was about 45 cm long. We got smoked by two others of this size, but If i get one fish of this caliber each time i come back I'm a happy man all year. Ive been heading out to the sydney north head, and the sydney south FAD last few days, theres heaps of undersize dolphin fish and king fish taking small yakkas and stick baits, though no keepers but still fun on the light gear. Ive also been fishing north head trolling small pink skirts and flicking around clear and white 6 inch stick baits. i found theres loads of bonito and small mack tuna in the evening around the water change line between the dirtier harbour water and the ocean water most times i was hooked up before being able to put the rod back in the rod holder when trolling around these areas. Cheers Jason

  6. Gday all, Fished the harbour on friday and picked up a PB kingy. I tryed all the usual spots around for not much at all until about the top of the tide when i picked up this fish. It was caught on 30lb braid on a large whole fresh squid downrigged. It put up a great fight towing me and my 13ft tinnie around for about 20 mins. It weighed 16kg gutted and went 120cm from nose to tip of the tail.
  7. just wondering everyones thoughts on keeping fresh squid to be used a day or two later. do you freze or refrigerate?
  8. bad luck mate that wind was terible, i soaked live squid in the harbour last night for a jew. not even a touch. seems to happen a lot with me lately. yeah i was thinking the same about northy. got some squide left from last night. what do you reckon the wind will be like there.
  9. hey roberta thanks for the help seems to be some big fish there. i cant wait to get stuck into some of those huge kings. Cheers
  10. G'day im going to NZ for work in a couple of weeks and will be based at aukland and bay of islands. I heard the fishing there is great and just asking if anyone knows of good charter boats in these areas or just any tips in general would be great thanks.
  11. gday mate i was up there couple of months ago working and got some fishing in. i just trolled a gold popper around the edge of some of the islands, got some solid GT's. everyone up there was always saying to go gold. I also fished alot off the breakwall at the marina. if want some shore based get your self a cast net and go down to the boat ramp next to the boat yard plenty of garfish, head out to the brek wall. I cought plenty of good mackeral and at night time heaps of sharks. mate your lucky to get one of those hire boats. i tried for three weeks to get one for no luck. any way hope i was some help.
