  1. Hey Fisho's

My Family is heading up to Nambucca for 2 weeks in late september. We are meeting another family up there, and they enjoy a bit of friendly fishing as do we. Both of us have boats, his is more set up for estuary while mine is a bit bigger and can handle going outside.

Im doing some pre trip research and hoping to get some tips from anglers who have fished these waters.

Firstly, Ive heard the Bar crossing is a no no which sorta sucks but there is a beach launch location nearby?

Basicly I want to know what species to target this time of the year in the river and what I might expect to get outside.

I generally fish a combination of plastics and baits so Im open to any suggestions you good folk might have, along with any locations you can recommend.

    Much appreciated...

  2. Havent had a fish for quiet a while and finally got out on Sat night chasing Jews. Didn't land any Jews (suprise suprise) but caught a nice 45cm brim on the run in tide at sundown.

Didn't get much of anything after that other that a few eels, 1 of which got filleted for jew bait to no avail.

P.s Old Mr Brim went back to fight another day.

  3. Nice Groper!

Funnily enough, my missus says I turn in to a groper after I empty a few of those VB cans

    Hi Guys,

yeah that fella really put the hurt on in the first run!! i honestly thought it would drag me to my knees... and i was fishing landbased, using cooked prawn heads for berley and fresh cooked school prawns for bait (might sound weird but they love it) the rod was a custom built 10footer with a slow taper and the reel i used was an 8000 size spooled with 50lb mono straight to the hook no leader with a 6/0 hook...

location was west head.. the walk back out was alot harder than the walk down ha ha ha especially carrying that beast back!!! :biggrin2:

  4. Im feeling for you mate. Must be pretty frustrating with the breeze blowing, let alone someone nicking your tow bar. Dont worry all the pain will go away when you haul that first fish in tomorrow...

  5. george if im in the chest high water, then you may as well put a 6/0 hook in me so when the bull shark strikes, your on haha

Last shark attack in the Georges was 1946 -

    GIRL KILLED

    BY SHARK IN

    GEORGE'S RIVER

    SYDNEY, Sunday.

Valma Tegel, 14, of Russell St.,

    Oatley Bay, George's River, was

killed by an 8ft. shark in three feet

of Water at Oatley Bay, yesterday

    afternoon.

The girl had been swimming with

her father, Walter Tegel, and her

    cousin, Barbara Walther, 13, at

    small beach near her home.

She was horribly mauled, and died

a few minutes after being taken from

    the water by her father.

The girl's father fought the shark

with his feet and fists, and forced it

    to release her.

Tegel and the two girls had been

swimming in shallow water for about

25 minutes when the shark attacked.

    Two Sharks Sighted

Two sharks were sighted to-day in

Oatley Bay, George's River, near the

spot where Valma Tegel was killed.

    Despite a desperate and courageous

effort by her father, Rudolph Tegel,

who straddled the shark and fought

it with his bare fists, the girl was

horribly mauled, losing her left leg,

and she died in her father's arms as

he was carrying her from the water.

Only a matter of time now that the commercial guys are gone and the fish are returning....

  6. I suppose thats a pretty good flatty Merro... :074:

So thats why your coming in late to work!

Thanks lads, Im on a roll with the flattys. Time to get a brag mat I reckon. Thank goodness for modern phones with camera timers on em too.

Morgs- It will be now mate, I cant believe I hadn't thought of towing the boat into work earlier. That ramp is a beauty.

  7. I had to drop my mum at the airport at 10am today which was incovenient to my 'before arvo shift' fishing aspirations.

So I hooked the boat on and took it with me. I got some funny looks at the airport but come 11am I was backing the boat down the new ramp along Forshore drive Botany (Nice ramp btw).

Soon after I had a floater out and was casting around a plastic when Bam a real healthy strike started peeling off some line. At first I thought it was a big brim or snapper cause it kicked all the way to the surface, alas just another cracker Flatty. The bay is full of em at the moment this one was just under 90cm..

  8. Just wanted to mention I spotted a seal splashing around in Gawley bay. Ive lived in the area for 30 years and never seen one in the river before. Makes me wonder if its a sign of improved water quality?

    Anyone else seen him?

Edit - Just noticed this was my first post.... Gday, Im Merro :)
