  1. i too have a shimano taipan, however it is showing its age, the butt cap has completely disapppeared & its down to the metal tubing. also the reel seat where the reel clamps on does not stay in the fixed position anymore, i can literally tuirn that section of the rod 360 degrees around on itself. i also am in the market for a new replacement rod of this type of nature. i would mostly be using it on trying to catch jewfish and alike from wharves around the harbour. the reel i would be using for it would be a shimano baitrunner 8000D spooled up with 50lb power pro braid (yes i know, overboard with the lb but i also use this reel for offshore kingfish fishing & ive only got the 1 spool). i currently only have 2 rods im looking at atm, them being the: - Penn Slammer 1102 Spin Length(imperial): 11' Length(metric): 3.30m Pieces: 2/P Rating: 6-15kg Casting weight(g): 56-170g Blank: Clear solid tip Guides: Fuji NB: the reason for looking at this is because i already have Slammer 702 st matched up to an abu garcia soron stx20, & the Slammer 701 gbh 10-15kg rod for offshore fishing & they have never faulted me yet. - Shimano Endura 12' Surf Rod 2 piece, 12ft, 6-10 kg. NB: its a clearout rod from a fishing store at the moment. my question is, can anyone give me feedback on the 2 said rods i have mentioned in terms of quality and longevidy etc. also if there are any other rods i should be looking at but have missed, please let me know...my price range is somewhere around the 100$ tops so no snyder glas etc. sorry to hijack ur thread kel, b ut it seemed that we were almost in the same market for rods etc lol.
  2. uuumm...so yeah, i take it this isnt happening anymore?
  3. hi, is this thing still happening?... im still pretty keen to come down and be shown the ropes. might bring a fishing mate too if thats cool.
  4. put me down for hella-keen to come to one of these workshops... ive been wanting to get nto blackfish fishing for sooo long now (due to all those reports of successful days and bagfulls of success)but soo many excuses plague me (including no float among others haha).
  5. keep us posted on what you decide to do... wouldnt mind going for a fish as well (dependent on what time i get back up to sydney...gotta head down the coast with a mate to pick up some fishing gear he left there during xmas break).
  6. thanks for the input fellas. im currently jsut using the spinfisher on the 10ft jarvis & am yet to put the baitrunner into action (still needs line haha).. i figured i'd stick to the suggested line that came in the manualannd go with power pro in 40 or 50lb cheers.
  7. hello raiders, i jsut bought a spinfisher 850SSm today for a cool price & was suggested to load it up with 30lb mono (ended up putting some platypus 30lb mono on it 300yds). therein lies my problem.... i dont have a (new)rod to match it with, i will be using this reel to target kingfish and the like (bottom bash)from a boat[only started boat fishing recently], however i will also primarily be using this land based (hoping to get into shark fishing from a beach + a certain pier in sydney that kingys can be caught from). i also have a shimano baitrunner 8000D coming in a couple of days and am also planning to use this for the same intended fishing purposes of mixed land & boat fishing. as it stands i will be using a couple of old rods for now (a 12ft shimano beach rod & a jarvis walker 10ft beach rod for land & a 6'6" ugly stick line weight 1-4kg & jarvis walker 7' line class 4-10kg for boat) could anyone in the knowhow please recommend me rods for both land and boat that will fullfil my intended purposes mentioned above & match the reel sizes... but something that will also not hurt my wallet too much if i had to choose jsut 1 rod i suppose i would want a boat intended rod... also when the baitrunner comes in, i wasn't quite sure what type of line i should put on it for that size of reel, does 50lb braid sound about right to you guys or should i go heavier/lighter? (and also wat braid brands are recommended) btw these 2 reels are kind of replacing 2 older reels ive had for many years now (a shakespeare & jarvis walker of the same relative sizes these new reels are) sorry for essay, any help/input is much appreciated. Olly
  8. awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww come onnnnnnn... i is sooo confusssed do you know if u can hire a boat in sussex inlet?... i only know u can in swansea oh gawd... i dont know where to go anymore haha cheers for the info olly
  9. awesome report, me and a few friends were actually thinking of going to sussex inlet for australia day break and fish there for a few days...it was either that or my suggestion of swansea... did you hire or use a boat when u went fishing or was this all land based stuff?..... we were actually leaning more towards swansea, but after seeing your report i think i might need to show this to them and end up changing travel plans.
  10. cheers, ive never tried stingray/skate before and have always wondered what it tastes like. as long as i kept it i might as well cure my curiosity about their taste... thanks
  11. hey all, i need some help again identifying what this is and whether or not its edible...the last fish identified here turned out to be a fat red gunard & i released it not knowing what it was... turning out to be an excellent eating fish apparently anyways, i caught this 2day in the bay ...im guessing its a sting ray of some sorts..but not exactly sure what type, and also if its edible or not. any help is appreciated
  12. sorry to chime in on your thread, but i too am keen to be taught a few things about blackfish/luderich and all that type of jazz.... u rekn i could come along as well if anything gets set up? itd be nice to broaden my 'fishing mates' list as the ones i got atm are jsut occasional summer weekend warrior type ones lol.
  13. this is amazing.... awesome haul! very envious atm with the blackfish skills...they look hella tasty, never caught one b4 lol..well done fellas.
  14. i jsut purchased the ABU soron stx 20 (matched up with a penn slammer 7' cos i baitfish more than use lures lol) and i would have to agree with the above 2 posts... they're solid as a rock and they jsut feel like they will last
  15. thanks fellas. nooooooo... im regretting thowing him back now

    Clueless

any ideas?.... the 1st one was out in force, u could see whole schools of them hanging around the wharf 2nd one was a surprise from the bottom of the wharf...
  18. hey fishraiders... 1st time poster went for a very short fishing session with a mate of mine yesterday in the bay. anyways, i caught couple trvalleys, 1 port jackson shark(released), couple of flatheads & 1 aussie salmon (52cm) that was the 1st time i'd ever caught a salmon before and was pretty happy about it... it put up a really fun fight with me, striked on the back of the boat & then worked its way around the front, we were affraid that it would swim arund our anchor so i had to get my mate to go to the hatch at the front of the boat and hand him my rod around the side while the fish was still pulling, the fish then swam to the other side of the boat and i got the rod again, now situated on the right side of the boat, thats where the fish stayed( pretty much swam around the whole boat lol). it ran a few more times until it was close enough for my mate to land it with the net. anyways, all in all it was a fun couple of hours out on the water.[damn my mate havin to go to work on monday morning thus us having to pack it in very very early lol, i wish i had a boat too lol :-( ] heres a couple pics
