  1. Sounds like a Great trip. 8 of us are heading up there in two weeks to stay on the houseboats. Can't wait. hope to have some of your good luck with all the differnet species. Will report about it when i get back.
  2. I know, it looks bloody awesome. None of us have been up there, so i am taking my father in law, who has done alot of fishing over the years. Not only am i looking forward to the fishing, but just to get away to such a beautiful place with a group of mates and relax is going to be the best part. the photos and stories I have been reading are magic. Some people say, no matter what you do, you will catch fish. That would be great if you sent us a map of where you fished and how you go. I got a really good email from Steve (the houseboat guy0 the other day. It was from a guy who has been there lots of times. It gave some excellent reading and spots to go. I am not sure how i can attached it, so you can have a read. I could email it to you.Email me I have some other stuff I could send, but you have probably read the same stories and seen the same photos i have been looking at. Keep in touch about how it goes. Cheers, Simon.
  3. Thanks for the tips. I will try what you say castings sideway, like an extension of my finger pointing. At least I have a few months still before we go, so every opportunity i get i will practice, short distance first and slowly extend it out. Thanks again for the tips guys.
  4. Sorry Bloopin. I called you flathead. Doh!!!! I have to learn to pay attention more. I am showing my inexpereince with these websites and stuff. Anyway, BLOOPIN, hope to here again from you with more tips etc.
  5. Thanks Flathead, I will try these in the back yard. Me and a group of mates are going up in September on the houseboat, Tillitoo. We are all looking forward to it, as none of us have fished for these types of fish. Mainly always fished in the bay down here in melbourne. I will persist in the baitcaster I have, but will also keept practising with the egg beater. Have you fished in Weipa before???? I would be greatful for any feedback you have, spots that are worth checking out etc. We have been gathering alot of information from people over the last few weeks. Let me know how you go up there next month. In the mean time, i will keep practising, 5-6 mtrs, then 7-8 mtrs and then 10-11 mtrs, until i get the hang of the thing. i am determined to master it befroe we get up there. Hope to here form you again soon.
  6. I have never used a baitcaster before. I am going to Weipa in September. I must be doing something wrong. I have been practising with braided line, but i can not seem to work out how to cast it more than 5-6 mtrs, If i try to cast it harder, it just birds nests. I need soem suggestions. Should i just use mono on it, instead of braided??? i would love to be able to master it before hitting the weipa waterways!!! Can anyone offer me some help or some techniques to make it work?? The weight of a lure doesnt seem to be enough. Also, should i just use a egg beater when out in the open water for casting further???
