Use the same two 3/0 gangs and just use the bottom hook inserted above the lateral line just behind the eyes in the shoulder. The weight of the LED light will keep the livies down as only small around 3”.

Ok thanks slid it matter if you used both hooks when preparing the live bait or do you use one hook to not injure the live bait?

  2. Hi Guys

I have already made my submission to  the DPI and most of Sydney Harbour is okay except Chowder Bay Camp Cove  and Nielsen park which entails total fishing closures for those areas and quite frankly it is not the fishermen that are the problem it is the Greenies and the Charter Scuba Diving Operators  whowant the coastline for their use and blaming  the declining fish stocks on us .This is  the time to stand up and do whatever I takes as if this is implemented then it is gone forever. I said in my submission I mentioned Bag limits review and closed season if applicable and catch and release practices to name a few and to look at cleaning up our waterways due to urban runoff and pollution not blaming us for their incompetence. Their focus is on aquaculture practices and sustainable fishing but who do you think will benefit they will as they collect the license revenue for the aquaculture businesses .One  must question that our license fees are being used to punish the fishermen and the revenue is used in promoting lockout areas the Nanny State is alive and well in NSW. Why should I pay license fees in the first place if there is no benefit to us .There are restrictions every where and its getting to the stage that there are no spot left to take the kids anywhere .I fish Tamarama and that is earmarked for closure also due to the locals not wanting us to spoil their area. No one owns the coastline and it should  stay that way and allow us to fish in peace and not be treated like a criminal for fishing in a sanctuary zone. End of rant.

  3. Does anyone know when they will allow access to the old mans hat  North head.I have a feeling that we have lost another fishing spot due to the giant rockfall about 300 metres east of the hole in the wall track. It has been closed for a while now.

  4. Hi Raiders

I was wondering if you can give me some advice on targeting bream around wharves specifically around the pylons,I fish Sydney harbour mainly at night and like fishing deepwater wharves depth between 15 and 30 metres depth.I mainly use around 12pound line with a running pea sinker down to about a size 1 hook.My usual method is to go to the bottom and lift the rig a metre or 2 of the bottom and wait patiently for activity. Can anyone recommend any tips or improvements that I can adopt to increase my catches.I dont burly as it is very deep water other than the cat food tin trick on the bottom which I have heard of but never used .Using unweighted baits down a burly trail might work but all that happens is yellowtail and small fish getting in on he action.I only use  handlines in this type of fishing.Any tips or variations that you can provide will be well regarded.

    Regards Steve

    Thanks mate

Hey Archilles no problem i just use a single hook in the tip of the hood and cast them out unweighted. The more natural the better if youre after kings consistently

Hi Krispy do you fish livies unweighted also.If you fish in free spool how do you stop the line peeling off when there is wind about just curious.

  6. Hi James

Can you disclose the location as we can all be aware remember some spots will always be more dangerous than others.

Cheers Steve.PM me if this is more appropriate.

Fellas, I know it has been covered many times before but I feel it needs to be said again. ANY form of rock fishing is dangerous. Last week I got knocked off my feet by an absolute freak wave. Conditions were near glassy until this happened. I'm an extremely cautious person when it comes to any form of rock hopping. Watched the swell for 30mins and thought all was good. Always make sure someone else can see you. Just because a location is on this map, IT DOES NOT MEAN YOUR GUARANTEED SAFETY.If in doubt, get the hell out!

    James.

  7. Quite surprising mate.So much for the theory that one must use light jig heads and small plastics for the bream.where you fishing deep water retrieve method and line class and most importantly jig size an type of plastic looks like at least 1/4 oz.

  8. Hi there raiders.i would like to get this off my chest as it is annoying the hell out of me..My pet hate is when I send someone a personal message in regards to fishing matters then check my personal message next day and find that the message has been read by the recipient have given the person the benefit of the doubt and waited and waited and behold the reply never comes.

I can understand someone not disclosing their info that is their choice but as a common courtesy they could at least reply and indicate this.Unless there is a glitch in the system.I will always reply to members no matter what this really infuriates me to no end.Any opinions out there.Cheers steve

  9. Went for a walk to Chiswick today and saw numerous fishing signs indicating that fishing is not permitted between 8.00pm and 8.00 am by order of Canada bay council section 632 maximum penalty 1100 dollars. Does anyone fish at night down there of late and what was the outcome is the ban being enforced?

  10. Who owns the walkway you should be able to fish off the railing.I can understand the marina being off limits but according to fisheries the marina is not a marine sanctuary this is some sign the marina have erected and employed guards to move people on.I think if some one stood their ground they would have no legal right to remove you.

  11. Fair enough mate.

Never let a fish run when using gangs or circle hooks. Just let the line pull tight & they

    will usually hook themselves.

I missed so many jew when I used to let them run. If not using circles then now

I just drop the rod tip when I feel the bump, wait for it to pull tight & hit them hard.

You will miss so many more fish if you leave the rod in a rod holder or similar.

Try to hold your rod at all times. It can be hard, & you don't have to with circles,

    but otherwise hold your rod!

    Cheers,

    Grant.

Good advice Grant. For jewfish I have hooked and caught the majority on strike drag not on light drag setting. Fish landbased with numerous rods using dead baits usually using rod stands on grassy banks always worry about rod going in the drink. If using live bait do you recommend the same method?.Any suggestions for avoiding rod going in the drink. Securing rod with rope not an option unless there is something commercially available. Regards Steve.
