Pflueger trion will make you change your mind again.
totally agree. I got a 2-4 kg Trion on the weekend and have matched it to my Saros 1000. Great rod for the price.

Thanks Ray, new Saros 1000F will get a test today on the BBQ boat!

Great work, I wondered when someone was going to mention it. Wish I had a yak...

Yeh thanks it's all sorted out now thanks to you and slinky... i will take more care with reels now.
-
Thanks so much slinky, I probably wont touch any reels again :-D

Ok the missing washer was under the dog's food bowl... Now i have the same number of metal and fibre washers. One of the metal washers is just a normal round one, one is normal with ears, and the one i found has a big dent in the middle, then the hole. From the diagram this one must go on top, but which way? Thanks again for your help slinky
-
Ok thanks Slinky that could be the problem. I thought the one with ears went on the top... It's an EX-60 if that helps. I found another screwdriver so will try and rearrange the washers now. But the next problem... one of the metal washers is missing... It should just be on the floor though Thanks for all your help.

Did the drag washers come out when you took it apart ?
yeh they did when the reel fell off the table onto the ground... i think i've put them back in the right way though- soft, metal, soft, metal- i also tried metal, soft, soft, metal and some other combinations but none of them have worked. I was hoping that that wasn't the problem
Thanks.

Finally got the software to work... but now cant find the screwdriver so the photos might no be too much use sorry!
The reel...
Undid the drag and found these 8 screws
Don't have the screwdriver but when you undo the screws, the round black bit lifts off, and then the metal bit, and you can see the line all the way to the centre of the spool.
Sorry i couldn't undo the screws, but hopefully this is enough. Thanks, it would be nice for it to be working properly- not just having the drag on or off
p.s thanks woodch0p, everything seems to be really clear including the screws.

Raiders,
The other day i got a bit too curious about 'what was under those screws' on the top of my cheapo Silstar. So, i undid them, saw that it just took the spool lip off, and put it back together. Now, once the drag is tightened to even looser than normal, the drag knob turns with the spool when line is pulled. This results in it getting EXTREMELY tight. Please Help!
Thanks

Ok cheers, the report will come!

Hi raiders,
This weekend i'll be going out yakking with a mate. We were planning on fishing around the Roseville Bridge area. Can anyone tell me what's around there at the moment? I'm interested in anything; bream, flathead, kings, jew, trevs, whatever. Thanks!

sorry about the late response, but thanks for all the info everyone. I think i will go with the cheaper option as i will mainly be using bait.
thanks again.

most people have different likings to mono and braid graphite and glass i actually u all of them for jews
i have a few different set ups i usually fish with atleast 4 rods, 1x 20lb braid 2x 25lb my heavier set up has 30kb mono i dont prefer any set up i beleive the more baits out u the more chance u have of hooking up one ive landed 10-15kg models on 20-30lb outfits from the boat my sticks arnt anything special i use silstar crystal blue kamashark stick and couple graphite sticks, brand of braid and mono vary i like the green mist colour for braid and ive had alot of luck with kokoda GTR line,
sweet that renews my confidence thanks

Hey raiders,
Starting to get into jewie fishing, and was wondering whether braid or mono would be better. Probably be using 20lb line.(heaviest my outfit will take) Also, what are the best brands of braid for heavier line like this? I have 4lb Fireline on my bream rod, is Fireline still good in 20lb? And what are good brands of mono, either for leader or mainline? and... Are glass tip rods a better idea for boat rods than graphite?
cheers

hahaha i have to do it...

Good catch, I have been catching Brem on 6/0's off the beaches in Broken Bay recently, and best bait is Mullet and slimeys on the neaches, and chicken is a top bait for the rivers
Tight lines
Anthony
thanks mate

Yeh mate baitrunner/ baitfeeder i think. If you have the bottom drag set loose, and the switch set to the bottom drag, then the fish won't feel resistance when it takes the bait, but then engage the tight main drag and strike. I want one...
Cheers

Headed up to Saratoga, Brisbane Water, on Saturday and stopped off on the way to get some more hooks. Got the usual whiting hooks and decided to grab some 5/0 circles just for fun
No action Saturday, but around midday Sunday was on the jetty, 4lb bream and 12lb heavy outfits, heavy rod rigged with one of the 5/0s, was hoping for maybe flathead. No interest at all so went inside to try and find some other place to go (broken boat). Got back out on the jetty and decide to check the bait on heavy outfit, feels like i'm snagged. But then there's a fight and i get really confused- but when i see that it's a bream... measured 29 cm and made good dinner.
Next day had a two hook rig on the heavy rod, a 1/0 suicide at the top and another 5/0 on the end, chuck out a small squid on it. No interest at all, then the same deal as Sunday. I reel in to check the bait, think I'm snagged, then see bream. This one was 33 cm, and while neither of them were monsters, i was pretty happy that the jetty had gone so well. Some people might not find it too amazing, but i was pretty shocked that bream would take a 5/0 circle hook, seeing as most books, guides etc. suggest a maximum of 3/0. Confused, but happy!
p.s anyone got suggestions for winter baits?
