  1. Great, thanks for the tips everyone. Will take it with me when the parents come to visit but other than that shelve it til I get a boat
  2. No-one?? 88 views and no replies either it must be a real hard question or maybe I need to shower more
  3. very nice mate, nice fish and the grin says it all!!
  4. Merry Christmas everyone. So, I got a new rod and real for Christmas unlike any I've used before... hoping someone can say what it's best suited for! It's a 6 foot heavy one-piece rod (Shakespeare TW601B) rated for 4-8kg line, with a Shakespeare T15L overhead reel rated for 300 yards of 14 lb line, "Light/Medium Saltwater". To me this sounds like something you might use out on a boat going after kingfish and the like... ... will it be of much use to me as a landbased fisherman who just likes to catch the occasional flattie, bream, trout, redfin etc?? (baits and lures) (from their description I was expecting a baitcaster but it really is a chunky overhead and real stiff rod) If not I'll ask for a boat next xmas
  5. Thought you blokes might be interested in this: http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/eci...parks/index.htm While I'm at it, I know a number of fishing groups have made submissions already but anyone who feels inclined should make a submission to the inquiry about the Animal Welfare Bill, which tacitly seeks to ban all forms of hunting (including angling) http://www.aph.gov.au/senate/committee/rra...are05/index.htm
  6. Good to know but actually I meant in response to the suggestion of Putney (Parramatta River) ... does your comment apply to that too?
  7. Thanks! Sounds like a good spot. Though I've read it's not a great idea to eat fish taken upstream of the Gladesville bridge?
  8. Nice site, glad I found it & will stick around. I'm trying to think where to take my parents, (great emoticon btw!!) and 2-y-o daughter fishing when they come up after Christmas with my nice new rod (a present). I have the SPs bug (though have only tried them a couple of times so far and not in Sydney yet). I am thinking the Lane Cove River (we live out near Carlingford so nice and close) but can anyone suggest a good spot that is nice and quiet and has a playground or something to keep the kid entertained? Reading this site, everyone seems to go to the Fig Tree Bridge but standing around listening to traffic noise ain't my idea of a relaxing time. I see on the map there's a playground upstream about 300 m south of Epping Road, anyone know what it's like up that way? Or otherwise any other suggestions?
