[Positioning Of An Airmar B164 Transducer]

Hi Scaffsta ,

I have just had a quick read thru the mounting instruction on this transducer and it appears to be a thru hull unit and is only suitable for a boat with a 8 degree to 15 degree deadrise. If you plan to mount this unit externally you will need to make a braket at a 12 degree angle so the transducer will read below your boat and place on the right or left depending on which way you made the bracket with the keel arrow to face towards your motor or keeline . Have a look at how the deadrise is calculated in the instructions . Ideally it would have been better to buy a transom mount unit .

As you may experience lots of turbulance .

Hi Dogtooth thanks for your efforts & reply but i was lucky enough to get the rite info from the guy i bought it off yesterday.

Your rite on the money tho about how to fit it as in the direction, spot on.

I bought the transducer for 550 so i got a good bargain & brand new, i wasnt going to pay 1300 i think its rediculously over priced, these manufacturers make a killing on things like this.

A big hello to all raiders,

I am in need of some help in the correct positioning of a new tranducer i am about to fit to my boat, i am at the stage where im ready to fit this big bulky bugger ( externally ) but i am just not sure & was wondering if some of you raiders that have some knowledge or could point me in the rite direction of which way to position this thing.

My question is do i fit the transducer in this picture to face forward ( front of the boat ) & should it be fitted on the right handside of the boat ??

Or should i fit it facing the centre of the boat ??

On the top of the transducer it has arrows & has keel written on one of the arrows, i just dont want to fit it & then find out iv got it set in the wrong way or the 12degree tilt is wrong, also i am fitting it to a bracket externally onto my trailcraft which has a mounting plate on the right handside.

Any advice would be very very much appreciated.
