  1. Great going... A for persistence. A for effort. A few fish.... priceless!
  2. Can be a very crowded spot. Always busy. Great fish.
  3. Hi Raiders, I spent a quiet afternoon at Blackbut today right at the end of the run out tide. No luderick, looking at them footprints there was someone there a bit earlier in cleats. Was it a fellow Raider?

    Era Weekend

History, I was told that the hut we stayed in was the original farmers hut, cattle were grazed for the Sydney market. Not absolutely sure how my friend came to get the lease. The hut community as a whole is now heritage listed, much to the upset of the NPWS! So they will survive for sometime yet!
  5. Finally had a chance to wet a line over the weekend, had a long planned visit with old friends to a shack at Era in the Royal National Park. First fishing ‘shift’ was Friday afternoon, the beach was dead calm only a slight northerly flow and a slow tow out at the northern end of the beach, spent a pleasant couple of hours catching one flounder of reasonable size, first time I have caught this species off the beach. Saturday morning was not kind to me, (but that’s what sometimes happens when old mates get together), the southerly that had moved up the coast meant that the beach was not pleasant and fishing was taken out of the equation. Sunday around sun up, the winds had died down and there was still a heavy, messy southerly swell, again the northern end of the beach was towing out and with the sudsy waters clearing to light blue every now and then it looked like prime salmon time, managed two good sized fish. The second looked a bit the worse for wear with a large chomp out of its back, the scaring didn’t stop him pulling hard like salmon do in the surf, a great morning! After breakfast, cards and lunch I again returned to the beach, but the falling tide brought no more fish, just a lovely way to spend an hour or so. Legs were aching when I got back to the car, but it was well worth the effort! (No photos, what happens at Era is not to be recorded anywhere but in memory...)
  6. Great going Witha, I'm Sure you will get the next one! Great day out none the less.
  7. Looks like a great day out!
  8. Thanks for the tip Ryder, I did try the vibes the other morning. The nill result always makes me more keep.
  9. Myself and two neighbours spent a couple of hours this morning on the George's River. Quite chilly till the sun came over the hill. Two with plastics, one with prawns and squid, very little action... (none actually). Lovely morning, I keep telling myself...it's just a matter of time.
  10. Your reports amaze me, if I caught that many fish in a year I would be stoked! You must know the Georges river like the back if your hand. Thanks for the report... I need to get out more and more ... Mark
  11. Hi, When fishing beach gutters I often like to use enough lead to allow side drift and follow the drift along the gutter. I don't get to fish surf beaches often. This is just my 2 cents worth. Kram Kram..
  12. Saturday afternoon the tide was still running out but starting to slow, headed to Mickies point. Noticed some intermittent action just on the down stream side of the headland. first cast snagged lost jighead and plastic. Moved to suspending bibbed lure... manycasts later no looks. Changed to my lightest jig head and a small greenish minow. After about 30 more casts finally hooked up... good weight but after a short fight the line went slack... broken off near the hook, lat 10" of line all scratched up, rocky bottom. Start again... Re-rig. .. another 20 casts next strike sees a 50 cm Flathead landed. Then off home, a lucky afternoon in the sun! That flattie is probably still in the same spot, it had a large belly obviously well fed at that location. Mark. Kram..
  13. Gotta agree about those beaches on the southern side of Port Hacking, just magic. Thanks Kram..
  14. Hi Ryder. That sounds like good advice! I remember my first foray into the world of braid, at that stage I almost exclusively used hard body diving lures from the shore line. I am going to take your advice... blades or divers for 'grasshopper' next time! Cheers! Kram..
  15. Sunday Afternoon a neighbor and myself spent a couple of hours walking upstream from Georges River National Park, Burrawang Beach. He has only just purchased his first ever fishing rod. (A few tangles, a couple were recovered and a couple of times we had to cut out the knotted braid. It is very difficult to describe to a newbie the attention required to maintaining constant tension when retrieving line. I might advise to swap to mono for a while to start out, or just help him persevere for a while… we shall see … If anyone can think of some advice to pass on … it would be welcome. ) A pleasant walk, only a few small enquiries, did not have to bother about releasing because nothing was caught! Once the sun moved on so did we. On Monday I went to Mickey’s point to try for blackfish, fresh weed from off the rocks south of Jibbon Head collected on Saturday’s outing. I did not even get a touch, not a hint of a down, think I will try Blackbutt next time I am out … but with the world cup starting next weekend it might be a while. There was a bit of action on the other shore, I imagine a flathead having a feed of bait fish as they moved along the shore, none of the passing boat traffic noticed this. Made it home before the heavens opened up, warm and well fed at home by that time! Kram..
  16. Spent Saturday morning with my son walking Deeban Spit then Jibbon beach casting soft plastics for flatties. probably landed 30 fish, none larger than about 20cm. Jibbon beach in the sun, in the winter, in the Southerly was a magnificent place to be! Kram..
  17. Great outing! Kram..
  18. Spent the day watching a beautiful day from my office. Took an hour just before sunset to throw a line in. Nuclear Chicken caught one undersized flattie. Then these guys came past. Now that is an office! Kram..
