  3. Staying at the entrance for the long weekend. I was just wondering how the fishing is there at the moment. Any specific spots producing? Will be landbased only.

    Cheers

  4. My boat has not been used for about 4 weeks , went to lift the motor a few days ago only to find the battery , which is only 12 months old ,was nearly flat.

The only item that I know of that is drawing power is the iluminated clock in the AM/FM radio.

Using a multimeter , can someone advise what I should set the dial to & at what point do I test , can it be done at the battery or does it need to be tested at the radio.

Hopefully it it can be tested at the battery as this will indicate the total amps being drawn. Perhaps there is something else consuming power

Here is a pic of the multimeter

    Tks

    Geoff

Take the red lead from the multimeter and plug it in the 10amp DC section, put the multimeter on the 10amp setting aswell. Go to your battery and leave the positive lead connected, remove the negative lead the put the positive of the multimeter on the negative of the battery, the negative of the multimeter on a good earth. This should give you a amp reading. For a radio it will be around 0.10 amps. To see that the clock is using the power take out the power to it or the fuse and the amps should drop, if it doesnt drop by much keep unplugging accessories until you find the culprit.

EDIT: 0.10 amps is probably abit to high for the radio when its off, should be around 0.02 amps, which explains why my battery is draining after a week, damn lucas electrics :ranting2: :ranting2:

Just done a similar thing on my car as something was draining the battery, easiest way is to pull out fuses until the amps drop, if your boat has any.

    Hope that made sense

  5. Were you fishing around windang wall area? I was there with a few friends and cousins, not really fishing (though couldnt resist a small flick), and seen a guy pulling in blackfish after blackfish for around 3 hours, while not many other people were catching anything. If it was good job

  6. Bad luck about the tailor mate. Which part of the creek were you fishing? I fished there mid last week, only managed undersize fish and 1 legal bream though. Had a run on my baitrunner on a live garfish but failed to hookup :ranting2:

  7. Hi guys , my older stella spin rod just snapped about 20cm from the tip so i thought that it was time to get a new rod and reel combo. Ill be using it primarily off the boat when fishing for bream, whiting, flathead, etc. I was thinking about getting a sahara 2500 with a sahara rod which is around $130 and loading it up with 6lb fireline. Are these rods/reels any good, there is also a solstace reel with a catana rod i was looking at for $100. Any other suggestions?

    My budget is around $150

    Cheers

  8. I fished very similar times but closer to the Georges river national park, perfect conditions until around 3pm where all hell broke loose :ranting2: :ranting2: haven't owned my boat for a long time and was the first time I've been in such a situation, was very rough in my 14ft tinny, retrieving was a pain as well. Me and my brother were saying imagine how botany is now   Good to see you did well before the wind hit.

  9. Hi guys i was just wondering how the georges is looking at the moment, i was fishing there last week for hardly anything, only 1 undersize bream, water was very brown. Has it cleared up yet?

    Cheers Matt

  10. Hey mate, great fish there, Did you fish the breakwall just as you leave the port, with all the white villas along? I just came back from a trip to Fiji aswell, didn't get to fish though :mad3: :mad3: . Did you fish on your own or with a guide? Your own gear? I thought about taking a charter out but only spent 3 nights at Denarau before leaving to an island, did get to see some great fish snorkelling though :biggrin2:

  11. Hey mate were u there on saturday around 3pm? I seen someone there fishing for blackfish off the shore, i was anchored close to there and only managed 2 just legal bream, wasn't fishing for blackfish though, I've caught a few schools jews there on prawns.

  12. Took out the plate that ron.c pointed out and the gear linkage was there, loosed these two bolts and and 4 lower bolts and the gear case came off quite easily.

Took the housing off and looked pritty good under there. Only problem i had was fitting the new impeller in, once i figured it out come together quite easily. Finished in about an hour

Tried to change the gear oil but couldn't get the damn screws off to empty the oil, might have to soak them in wd-40.

Thanks for the help guys, looking forward for fishing tomorrow if the wind slows down :ranting2: :ranting2:
