Sounds good, what bait were the jewies and whiting caught on?
Cheers Matt

Went to Picnic Point landbased today to fish the incoming tide. Was there from around 11:30-3:30 and only caught 3 small whiting and a small flounder all on prawns. The were about 5 other people there and nothing decent was caught.
Does anything decent pop up there or are they mostly small?

Shimano are great when it comes to service, just recently the drag clicker on my shimano reel stopped working, wasn't a expensive reel but i sent it in to them with the receipt and came back with a new spool, no questions asked.

I couldn't even get one, apparently they had "sold out".

yea ive heard you could park on the left but couldn't see where because of the roadworks, seems like a far walk from henry lawson dr.

ye the mouth of the cooks is a possibility but isnt that area polluted??
The mouth off the break wall should be alright, i wouldn't touch anything past that though.

Hi guys i was just wondering how people get under the bridge land based? Ive heard its a good place to flick plastics but have no idea how to get down there? Where do you park?

Ive fished off Yarra bay, just to the left of the rocks near the sailing club, the past 2 weekends and haven't caught much, just a 20cm or so flat head off a SP, don't think i fished the right tides though. Perhaps the mouth of the cooks?

Hey guys, was just wondering if anyone has fished North or South Era beach near Garie beach lately? Was it very productive? Was thinking about heading down there on Sunday with a few mates. How hard/long is the track down there from Garie?
Cheers Matt

Thanks for the tips guys, ended up getting a great deal on a 11' Penn spinfisher big game surf rod and Rovex Duren 5500 reel. The reel probably isn't the best but got 2 for the price of 1 because my brother wanted a new reel aswell.

Will definitely be trying blood and bone with chicken pellets, will it be easy just to use store bought bread crumbs? There only $2 or so for a bag that can make 7-10L of burley.

Any rod in 5-8kg with a 4000 or 5000 series reel would be more than adequate for hauling in Taylor, Salmon, Flatties and Jew off the sand- load the reel up with 20lb braid and a good 30lb flouro leader around 1.5m long.
I reckon a top combo in your budget would have to be the Penn Spinfisher 850ss combo - comes in just over $150- but well worth the extra coin when you are taking on big Sambo's and taylor off the beaches, the reel can also be matched to a good 8-10kg boat rod for any offshore work you might do- say if you go on a few charters.
Another combo well worth the $$$ is an Alvey 650 combo- I think they come in around the $200- mark and again well worth the coin- easy to use, easy to clean and will last a lifetime- you can drop them in sand and just wash off with salt water and they just keep going and going and going- a spin outfit couldnt take that punishment so this might be a more suitable option.
... Most tackle shops and even department stores will stock Alvey and Penn combo's go take a look @ one and see what you think.
Hope this helps and good luck with the purchase
Anthony
Thanks mate, will check out the Penn outfit, haven't used a Alvey before so i think ill stick with a spin outfit. Any experience with the Ugly Stik Balance combos?

Is this stuff bought from garden centre's thats sold as fertiliser? Is it the pure stuff or is 90% ok?

I was wondering what surf combo you guys will recommend for chasing salmon, trevs, flatties, bream, etc. Mainly bait fishing, my budget is around 100-150 for the combo, i was looking at a Shimano Catana rod but its only 3-5kg, will this be sufficient? What reel size/brand is good for the beach?
Thanks for the help.

Hi i was wondering how productive Kurnell groynes are this time of year? Was thinking about heading there on the weekend and fish off the groynes, will it be productive at low tide or is it to shallow? I was hoping to flick plastics and bait for flatties, bream, etc.
Cheers Matt

Hi,
I was just wondering if anyone has fished Yarra Bay landbased lately, near the sailing club? I might be fishing there on saturday but the tides will be low when i get there, around 12-1pm, is this ok? What baits/SP's are effective, ive got squidgies and tried them a couple weeks ago but got snagged heaps.

Hi how are ya.
great to see a whole family wanting to fish together,
Just read up and you will learn some good treats.
I think if you are lucky enough to have a group like the family maybe you should consider get a charter.
Anyway.
Take care
cheers painter
if its just the boys, then a charter would b great but with our females in the group it might not be the best idea
might go do some land based with the boys this weekend

Hey Guys
Been interested in fishing for a while now, however never really did anything about it but have found myself wanted to do it more and more recently.
Used to fish with oldies and family when i was younger but that was really only during family vacations so i consider myself a novice and was chuffed to find a community on fishraider.
Have only been up to berowra waters and bobbin head over the last few months, which have had no success.
We usually go out as groups of 5-10 people (boys & girls - wife, sister, brother etc) as we enjoy hanging out together. We only do land based fishing as we dont have a boat but its all good. Plus we usually do all nighters (10-7am), however i guess these have been bad decisions as the tide was quite low at both berowra and bobbin but we never been there before so yeh
Me and my bro are thinking of going down to georges river during the weekend (live in the sth west so its close by) for a throw out.
Would you guys have any suggestions on what time would b good for fishing down there and were abouts?
sorry if i have rambled on and i guess this should have been put in a different section but wasnt sure
cheers
