  1. wherabotus do you go to catch all these squid?!? thats amazing 20 in one haul please dont tell me if its your secret spot or whatever; but im just a beginner and would love to know more about it.........have been going to balmoral bath/wharf with a mate and so far we've (he, not me haha) managed about 4 squid in 6 hours so yeah...any advice as to where to go would be very much appreciated! thanks!!
  2. hi there just wondering if anyone knows of any good squidding and general fishing spots in pittwater, either from land or boat; preferably ladn though please? am a bit turned off by the 'dangers' of eating harbour seafood is it best to fish for squid at night? i heard bayview jetty was good? also; is there anything around palm beach/barrenjoey that produces squid regularly? a wharf would need to have some light for it to be pleasant preferably thanks a lot and hope to hear from you soon! tight lines matt
  3. ah great thanks after since reading of the dangers of eating seafood from the harbour, even around balmoral/middle harbour; was wondering if there are any good squid grounds around pittwater at all? thanks!
  4. id love to know some areas in the harbour that regularly yield squid; either from land or a boat please havent had too much luck at balmoral just a couple of squid over 2 nights thanks!
  5. hi there just wondering where some good spots are for night fishing can you catch squid around the spit bridge/clifton gardens at all? also; is the fishing any good there in general? i know clifton gardens doesnt have lighting but does the spit bridge area at all? have never been there at night..and also the area around the harbour bridge...is the fishing good there? and are you able to eat the fish there more importantly? there seems to be a lot of boat traffic can imagine it would be fairly polluted but you guys would have a better knowledge of the area than me thanks a lot! matt
  6. hi there a mate and i have spent the last couple of nights down at balmoral jetty in middle harbour trying without too much luck to catch squid; using a variety of yo zuri lures as well as a yellowtail bait jig just casting out and slowly retreiving from the wharf on the side with the lights over what im guessing are weedbeds as seagrass keeps coming up on the end of the jigs every time they get reeled in so far my mate's caught 4 squid; ive caught none (i dont count the HUGE one that i had that would have been atleast a foot long and decided it would be funny to shoot ink all over me once it got to the surface and then manage to escape anyway ha ha...when i catch him im going to eat him as revenge thats for sure) but basically everything i read is that the norm is catching around 10 in an hour...i keep reading that balmorals a great area for it; and even last night (we have both times been fishing/squidding on a rising tide at nighttime) you could see some squid coming up and following the jig; however no matter what we tried they just wouldnt take them so i was just wondering if there are any tips or tricks to catching squid; is it best at any particular time, moon phase or tide; and are there any good areas/hotspots that regularly yield a decent catch in and around sydney, either on a boat or from land, preferably from land though? thankyou very much! hope to hear from some of you soon and post some pictures of a bag limit asap! cheers have a good weekend and good fishing.. matt also; would it be ok to just rip the heads off the squid and clean them as soon as we catch them; and then use the head part and tentacles as bait for fish or something and then cast it back out? fresh squid heads would be fantastic bait i imagine; its more the squid tube itself im worried about - it wouldnt go off or anything if kept in a bucket of water for a couple of hours would it? still be edible? thanks!
  7. hired a boat with a mate for the afternoon down at rose bay; headed straight out to the point (sorry dont have a name); caught about 4 small fish each (all no bigger than the palm of your hand; threw them all back apart from one that died almost instantly cuase it swalled the hook unfortunately....mate kept that on the end of his line and cast it back out not really expecting much; think it was boredom more than anything; reeled it back in only to find a huge squid on the end of it...unfortunately couldnt land it but was exciting all the same after trying a for bit longer around there we jetted around to shark island and fished just on the inside of the wharf structure there; where i caught about 8 fish in half an hour and my mate caught 2 (smashed him ha ha, including one huge leatherjacket which i took home for a -very- nice feed) all in all just one keeper fish but the action was hot and it was a fantastic day to be out on/in the water. good times!
