  1. very unlucky about that kingy, but really well done on doing that well with such a beast. Something just like that happened to me at Currarong, I was spinning for bonnies when my reel started screaming with 10lb line peeling off, but after 20 - 25 minutes of fighting it I got it to the rocks and saw it was a kingy - though not as big as the one your talking about - but anyway got a wave wash the fish onto the rock, i went up and grabbed it, but then it flapped and shook and i lost grip and the trebles came flying out and it swam off. I was absolutely gutted.
  2. Went to bobbin head yesterday with a friend, chasing squid and bream, and all those sorts of things. Anyway, caught a few squid at Apple Tree Bay first off, already a great start Then we went over to Bobbin head and fished off the jetty, berleyed up and had a nice few fish in the trail, so fished an unweighted fillet of pilchard and pulled up a few nice bream going 27, 29, and 26cms, but all were released. In the berley trail, we caught a yakka, which we put straight back into the water....mounting a 4/0 hook. we left that out for about 15 minutes before.... BANG!!! something had smashed the livebait and the reel was singing, with 8lb line just peeling off for about 15 seconds before stopping. My friend then played in the fish for another ten minutes before getting it to the jetty and seeing it was a Flathead!!! We had no net, so I tried wrestling it onto the jetty, took 2 or 3 minutes, and cuts all over my hands, but We landed it! It went a massive 81cms!!! I wanted to let it go, but my friend is relatively new to fishing and wanted to keep it as it was his first ever flathead. Ive been fishing for ten years and this was only his 3rd ever fishing trip and he has already caught a bigger flathead than i have in my life! Next time Im pushing him in and taking his rod and reeling in the big fish myself Here's a photo of the beast...
  3. This was the most fun I ever had in 2.5 hours i'll tell you that!! Went down to Currarong this weekend and had a blast with these awesome salmon. My dad and I walked down to the rocks at about 6 30 pm to fish the change of light with whole pilchards, no sinker , float or anything. First cast, bitten off by a good tailor. then we had a about 20 minute spell with no fish, but after that we were both getting a salmon every cast, good fun on my 10lb line, I can't remember a time that trip where a reel wasnt screaming! altogether we must have caught 12 or 13 salmon each, which were all released. We left the rocks at 9pm. The biggest salmon I got went 76cm, which i have the photo of. Don't know how the picture will turn out as this is the first time I have posted a picture...
  4. Went down currarong this weekend with a friend from school for a fish. Wasn't the best weekend for fishing as it was really windy but managed a few fish anyway. Day 1: Not a lot but managed 4 red rock cod, a trevally, a few pike, some leatherjackets, a drummer, a couple of moray eels. All released except some of the red rock cod (poor mans lobster) and leatherjackets. Day 2: again not the best day ive had there but good fun. today the red rock cod were in huge proportions as we must have caught at least 13 or 14 - only kept a couple though. we got another trevally, again some pike and leatherjackets, a blackfish that amazingly enough i caught on the fillet of a pilchard - definately a blackfish. we had a spell of about an hour with no fish then my friends reel started screaming , he was trying a piece of crab we caught on the rock, I was ready with the net. then we saw colour, blue. I netted it and yep, it was a blue groper, 55 ish cm (didn't measure it) we were only using 12 lb line for it so we were pretty happy. we gladly released it as we have been snorkeling with them and they come up and have a cuddle , I couldn't kill one of them. straight after that i turned around and my rod was buckled over, i had left the bait in the water. i picked it up and the reel was going zzzzzzzzzzzz! but it pulled me under a rock and bust me off. Sorry about no pictures as my friend realised he had forgotten the camera and was cursing he had no proof of his groper. All in all it was great fun in one of my favourite places in the world.
  5. My dad is a fisho but not quite as addicted to fishing as me He was cursing that he didn't come as he used " I need to do some painting" as an excuse not to come.
  6. Hi, my first post, yay! Went down to bobbin head a couple of days ago, fishing only land based. Got there around 11am, dad dropped me off (as I am only 13 and can't drive). Started off near the bridge and fished the runout tide with a fillet off pilchard. Not much was happening for a while until BANG! one of the rods suddenly buckled, I was straight on it. I played him in and he turned out to be a flathead, measuring 42cm. I let him go as we already had some fish in the freezer from Jervis bay a few weeks ago. Fished there a little while longer but nothing was biting, so I moved to a different spot, some rocks between Apple Tree Bay and Bobbin head, a bit deeper water. Cast out one of the rods with a big bit of squid on a relatively big hook, cast as far as I could and just left it, while i fished in close with bread. Again not much going until WHACK!!!! the rod with squid started bouncing big time, while the reel sung zzzzzz. I picked up the rod and played him in, took maybe 10 min and i saw it was a huge trevally. i got it in and measured it. it went 53 centimetres, I released it. Biggest I've ever caught! I phoned my dad and he drove straight down , while he was there I hooked a decent size tailor but he bit through my line, it was only 6lb so not hard for a tailor with razor teeth to bite through. Got no photos as I was by myself and did not bring a camera. But I really wish I did!
