  1. Never seen a water front without some form of structure, jetty, ladders to water, moorings etc they all have something. Non wishing to start an argument but have you ever been to the above mentioned ned's beach?? Now if you read my post I never said the fish will stay all day in fact I instructed the exact opposite, Sand flats as you point out wont hold fish because of a lack of structure, thats why I told him to berly the last of the rising tide each day and the fish will get into the habbit of turning up for a quick feed. cheers
  2. Simple answer YES of course! My uncle ties leftover meat to an overhanging branch, the flies blow it, maggets hatch and keep falling in the water. Unc goes down after a few days and holds a plate under the meat, a few taps gets his bait for the session, and guess what? Ever magget he puts on a hook gets smashed! The fish are used to "that" bait in "that" area and have been feeding for days with no ill effects so when presented with the same tid bits they are not so timid. So yes if you berly consistantly you will bring the fish, try burlying at the same point in the tide not the same time of day for say 4 days and on the fifth use 1/4 the ammount of burly and fish lightly weighted baits made of your burly (if you follow me LOL)you should do very well. good luck PS like some said above "where people eat" try harry's cafe at wooloomoloo, 18hrs a day berly trail!
  3. The 12', yes, pm me with your prefered area and I'll try and point you in the right direction
  4. 3 X 2/0 ganged hooks for whole pillies- but another effective rig for whole pillies is 3 X size 4 biatholders, 2 hooks running and the end one fixed. Must be bloody small pillies LOL!
  5. No offence to anyone above but do any of you guys live at La Pa?, all spots mentioned were good spots and will be again. However, at present the dredging has really had a bad effect on water quality around bear island and frenchmans (boat house), while Yarra Bay and the "sucko" haven't recovered from the big storms about two months back, no kelp = no squid. I'd try tyhe kurrnel side of the bay, I've heard there have been some good catchs that way, but anywhere near the new boat ramp has suffered from the dirty water at present. Been getting a few at the malabar boat ramp, but not great numbers. Cheers
  6. We got heaps at global tackle LOL! what colour you want.
  7. Yep Nth Marourba at the "dunnie bowl" or "the stakes", fish it on a swell with some Nth in it and you will be safe, good blackfish, pigs, flatties and trevally with the occasional pelagic turning up. If you don't mind the drive Gerrie Beach nth end you just step up off the sand onto the rock ledge and can provide some good fishing. Shark Point at clovely is a simple walk with no mountain goating required but watch it in a southerly it can be deadly without looking like it. But great live bait or spinning spot also pigs and blackies. If your mate is in the eastern suburbs tell him to drop in at Global tackle and ask for me and I'll give him a few spots that will suit. cheers mark
  8. The main advantage over a "simple" dropper or paternosta rig is when using "soft" baits or when the pickers are around. You still got a chance of a hook up even if you get baited by the brown brigade. cheers
  9. Lots of good spots around terrigal, the sharks are prety hot up there at present though. Was up there last week got a few over a meter and an amberjack but the sharks were active lost about 1 in 3 fish. cheers
  10. Must agree with slinky. as a general rule if you don't know what it is and you catch lots of them they probably are not very good eating, take salmon as an example if they tasted any good they would be extinct LOL! Most good table fish have bag limits etc so you will be familiar with them. cheers
  11. For that money I'd say Daiwa Saltwater (7ft 1pc or 8ft 2pc) around $290, take a look at the Samaki vamp range $199, of course tournament Diablo (abu garcia) or tournament starlo stick and don't forget the ole Raider, but I'd have to say the saltwater from daiwa, vamp by samaki or the Lox (which comes with a cool rood case aswell as the cover. I'd suggest you drop into global tackle with your reel and try it on the rods to feel the balance and check the action, someone above suggested the TD Sol which is as good as a saltwater but the saltwater has a softer tip which I prefer, with todays toys once you spend over $200 there are some fine sticks out there and most have similar components. Tickford Ford damn fine car, HSV damn fine car, unless you got Ferrari (or Porche or Lambo)dollars, its Tickford, Hsv, Lexus etc. I'd probably go Lox, then split descion on saltwater/Samaki but thats me. You are the best judge of what YOU are comfortable fishing with, go in select as many as you like the look and price of, then put your reel on them! feel the balance and "wave it around a bit" then get assistance to "load it up" and note the action; like where it locks under load, do you like it to bend through the but or lock 1/3rd of the way down? personally for the money you are talking I wouldn't be thinking jewel but any of the rods suggested by myself or the others will do the job, do yourself a favour and put rod and reel in hand and pick on feel cause as far as quality goes they are all good to very good as far as components go and you have to start spending $500 plus to get a significantly better rod these days pick the 1 YOU like from a reputable tackle shop (Global Tackle LOL!) so you have warranty back up and rest easy. But do check out the Lox range excelent rods at a better than expected price. Cheers
  12. Was just tiding up my photos and came across a couple of the last social day, at which I had a ball! thanks to all the organisers and those who attended. Anyway it started me thinking how have people been going with their new found knowledge? I know my kids and I have been having a great time with bream in shallow water. Anybody had a memorable catch with any new lures or techniques? Or has it been too cold for anybody to be fishing LOL! can't wait for the next 1! cheers
  13. You can close this thread you just got all the advice you need. You can of course fish them like a normal blade but the iceman's method will yield more strikes.
  14. If I were you I'd keep on keepin' on. Keep crimping it, but if you must tie a knot the only 1 to use (and I think the only 1 you could physically tie) is as said above the uni. No disrespect intended but the trilene knot is a light line (under 20lb) knot, similar to a locked bloodknot. cheers
