  1. WOW that is absolute mayhem when the tuna hits the pole. Would have liked to have seen the size of the tuna on the fly rod. The mat on the floor has soft rubber spikes on it and is used to strip the flyline onto to keep it coilled in one spot. Seen them but never used one. Steven
  2. I once saw part of a school of Samon chase some whitebait as far in as the bridge before heading back out the mouth. so i guess it is possible. very rare but possible. the mouth is to shallow for it to happen to often. steven
  3. Everything Slinky said is spot on and is what i use most. I will add a couple of flies to the list though. Shrimp and yabbie patterns work well on both bream and whiting around weed beds and sandflats. And if you can find some of the shrimp/prawn patterns in a popper style grab some as they are hard to find (i had to tie my own) but the surface strikes are awesome. With fishing intermediate line on flats, make sure you dont let it sink to far and drag it throug the sand. This will spook everything in its path. Bread patterns can be fun to and almost anything will take them. Happy hunting Regards Steven
  4. HANDLE WITH CARE! Can cause severe electric shock and paralysis. My young daughter caught one in the mouth of the Hawksbury. had no idea what it was so just cut it of. Suprised when we got home and looked it up. A week later a bloke walking on Avalon beach stepped on a dead won and got shocked. Not coming in my boat!
  5. The photo says it all.She is hooked I'm lucky enough to have a 9yr old daughter that is a fishing addict If i go fishing so does she. And she has an impressive list of PBs also All her birthday money she spent on soft plastics. She is now studying for her boat license (has to be 12) Do it right and you will have a fishing buddy for a long time to come
  6. love the way you got all the boats to stay out of the way while you took the photo. Are you sure thats sydney harbour on a sunday morning? Regards Steven
  7. You can get an artificial fly tying material for that now. Its called KINKY FIBRE and it pulsates through the water
  8. I use Lanox on the steering to keep the grease from going hard. I also use White TEFLON lubricant on the exposed steering arm, just smeare it on every couple of months. cheers steven
  9. I have tied a fly using our dogs hair (black & white Papillon).Very fine hair that works a treat. It behaves like pollar fibre in the water. I got a 34cm EP in it. Have raided the kids stuffed toys when i neededa certain colour, but thats the strangest i have used. cheers steven

    Which Fuel ?

You do not want to use Ethanol in your outboard as their not made to take it. Regular unleaded is fine though. The motor should be fine as long as you havent been useing it for to long. they are working on motors to take Ethanol based fuel so it wont be long until there available. regards Steven
  11. I have a Quintrex 540 Spirit called MY HAVEN. That was what it was supposed to be.
  12. I bought my boat new and had the choice between the two, so looked for some advice. I was told to go for the teflon sleds as they did less damage to the hull. If you look along a hull that has rollers you quite often see dings were the rollers sit. Regards Steven
  13. This is from the fisheries web site. As for the rigs to use at the bridges, you will want to hold bottom so no float and a large sinker. It runs to fast to fish anything else. If using a 30cm tailor 2 large sinkers. Take or be in possession of fish or invertebrates in excess of the bag limit or of a size outside the legal size limits. All prohibited size fish must be released immediately. You must not hold prohibited size fish or fish in excess of the legal bag limit in a live well or use them for bait even if they are injured or dead on capture. If you have purchased fish or bait from a commercial vendor, retain the receipt to present to an I&I NSW fisheries officer.
  14. You just need to remember that if you use tailor for live bait they still have to be over the min size limit. A 30cm tailor is worth a go around the the bridges or Juno.flatties will also take a legal size whiting Cheers Steven
  15. Well done. That is a great haul of jews and not bad by-catch either. you have got to be happy with a day like that.
  16. You have made a good choice. You will like the area very much. You can getaway without a boat in the lake with shore based flatties available all around the shore line on SPs and live bait. There's some good flats around the back of cromer to wade also. Enjoy Steven
  17. roosterman is spot on. Both locations in easy reach, just pick witch way you want to go that day. Plus you have some great rock and beach fishing and also a great lake to play around in.
  18. Thats a couple of nice pigs you got there. don't they pull hard.Wait until you hook an unstoppable, the 5 seconds it takes to blow you away will leave you wanting more. Worth the effort and a nice feed to boot.
  19. You have to use regular unleaded in it. there not made to take Ethenol based fuels yet. It is very economic as well, especially when slow speed trolling, and no fuems. With a young family that was the main reason i got the 4stroke. I do the run down Pittwater then either outside or up the Hawksbury. depending how far out i go i get two to three trips from a tank. Thats to be safe and not run out of fuel 3km out. Hope this has been some help. CHEERS Steven
  20. That is a good price. and the 115hp is max power(weight) for that model. I have the same model in the half cabin(spirit) with a 100hp 4stroke yamaha. i cant fault it in any way. The hours are a lot more than mine but thats because i dont get out often enough. As long as it's serviced there shouldn't be a problem. Just happy fishing
  21. Hi Blacky, the foam in the can from bunnings is called exspandafoam. It's good in the fact that it will exspand and mould around any panels you pump it behind. Most new boats have this sort of stuff in the side panels and solid foam blocks to fill lager under floor areas. Black plastic around the area you want the foam is also a good idea as it will stick to anything and you cant get it off.
  22. By the time we got it to boat it was half dead so it wasn't to hard to land , and thank god it didn't ink all over the boat. I have a friend that has dived with them of there and they do show aggresion and rear up if you get to close. Steven
  23. Didn't think to weight it at the time, but i say around 5/6 kilo. The flesh was at least 2inchs thick. We saw some smaller one's floating around (dead). We cut it up on the beach and it looked like there had been an oil spill. I do normaly use cuttlefish for snapper, just not this big. Steven
  24. I think i have a drummer worthy of this post. It was taken of a cliff in a huge southerly. Had a hell of a time trying to winch it up. Steven
  25. Caught this huge cuttlefish in 37m off Whale Beach and just want to know if cuttles of this size are common or is this an exceptional fish. After realizing it wasn't the anchor rope it took a while to work out what we actually had. Cheers Steven
