  2. Hi raider! So I've been out on the bay a few times this mid sem break to only catch some rubbish fish or donughts! Where are all the fish gone?! What would you guys target now? What have you raiders been catching?! has anyone been catching? All info greatly appreciated!

Nah I saw zero surface action. There were 2-3 meter southerly swells, not sure if this contributed to no fish.

On another note, I went to Botany today 5:30am-8am, landbased, near the run way, for another big fat donut! lol :074:

I was targeting rat kings, as I've seen them being caught there in earlier months.

I might give it a rest until next month, full on donuts right now :074:

Haha nice! There hasn't been much happening recently in botany unfortunately :( lol Goodluck when you next go out!

  4. How you all doing fellow fishriaders?! There haven't been many reports of late so I thoug I'd throw my 2cents worth in...

Went out this morning for a long anticipated fish! Been so busy of late with assignments etc that haven't managed a fish in quite a while...however this trip was quite uneventful as you will come to learn. We set off at the lazy mans hour of about 8.30 thinking I'll fish the low tide. Was quite windy when we go out there do decided to head towards Brighton. (we went of foreshore drive and yes if anyone was wondering 3 lanes of the ramp are closed however the right hand most lane is still functional)

We arrive at the spot (There's no spot...we just anchored To a random area in front of the Novotel-were is the productive " spot"/area in this area?) and set out a few baits...was using Pillies and yabbies. Threw 5 lines out and sat back and waited. 1 hour of constantly reelin in and checking untouched baits followed by another of absolutely nothing! At about 11.20 a rod armed with 30 pound braid buckled over! With a massive 2 second run, I jump up and tug at it with hulk like strength in joy for what I thought was to be a magnificent fish! After about 10 seconds I realized my folly when It Became more of a dead weight than an anchor lol. After a short fight I brought up was the biggected portjackson shark I've ever seen in my life. The joy came back again as even though this was not the edible prize fish I desired it was a great Substitute...measuring a awesome 1.2 m + took a few photos with the beauty and then threw her back...set lines out again and what do you know I caught it again 20 mins later. After that we called it a day and headed back home (my father doesn't really enjoy fishing, so his always eager to head back home :( lol any idea on how to make him enjoy it?)

So yes no table fish or any fish really...prob one of the worst trips in the bay though still had a good time :D is anyone else finding h bay this barren? At the ramp others were also fish less...what's blighting at the moment in the bay? Where's the trevs and salmon!? Ah well there's always next time (like in an hours time when I shall try the hacking from a wharf lol)

    Yours truly Kingfishaholic

    Uploading pic tonight :)

  5. Hey guys! Been dying for a fish for a while and hopefully tommorow might be the day! Due to the hopeless wheather there havent been many reports regarding botany, do you have any suggestions of whats been biting/recent catches?

Also if the owner of a boat has a boat and fishing licence is he responsible for others onboard or are they responsible for their own individual fishing licences?

Ps this will become a report hopefully once i come back :)

thanx in advanced guys! any help appreciated!

  6. WOW that's absolutely huge! Easily over 200kg! Your a big fella and if your 100kg the shark dwarfs you! Regardless your pretty brave tryna touch it haha I'm sure no one can doubt that! Insane fishing right there! :D

  7. Hey Sparky! Nice catch, Haha and Howd You manage to get up after 2 hours sleep! Hope you had an awesome night!

Thanx for the yabbies mate I owe you one. (Although we didnt end up catching much only a whiting and an undersize bream...but the fireworkes were insane :D)

Hopefully you have an awesome new year mate filled with heaps of fish!

    thanx

  9. hey phil it was a realy old fibreglass boat with a 45 hp chrysler engine...

tip: dont by a chrysler engine...barely any mechanics deal with them and there quite ancient and unreliable

never going on that boat again i dont think...doesnt matter we live and learn just like fishark said  but we gotta percevere and stay :1fishing1:

im sure everyone has been in tight situation like this

    regards yusuf

  10. Wow, Yusuf,

These events, when we think about them and dissect each event, then ask the "what-if" question, it really makes us freak out.

What if banging on the pylons threw you guys out of the boat?

What if the boat hit the rocks in the kurnell shallows?

The lessons we learn from these events are called "experience", and as we get older, we realise just how lucky we were. We use these lessons to force us to think about what we are really doing, what can go wrong and what we can do to prevent a similar disaster. We actually accept the facts that shit really does happen and that we must genuinely prepare for such events.

When fishing on an unfamiliar boat, always bring a life jacket, food, water, maybe even a personal epirb. Also, check out the boat for safety gear, extra rope or anchors, how "carefree" is the captain (read careless) and if you feel that the safety factor isn't there, don't go.

I have had my fair share of near -death experiences and I take the weather and sea very seriously - she has no conscience.....

On a brighter note, well done on a decent catch of fish. They'll taste so much better knowing what lengths you went to acquire them.

...and as the Poacher said - if you can survive that, the HSC should be a breeze...

    Tony
