  1. Yeah believe I would have never believed it until I actually saw it! I will try get a pic and post it up. It was a King George Whiting from Victoria.
  2. Hey Raiders, Not the most interesting report but I finally broke the drought with a fish. Fished the run in tide for a few hours with nothing but little bites. Had several small rods and a surf rod loaded with a whole heap of worms on a 6/0 ambitious for a jew. Nothing was happening so we decided to pack up when the baitrunner went off . . . . . . strike and ended up with this whiting. Caught a few more after that then decided to leave as the 7 degree weather and high winds was too much to bear. BTW prior to fishing tonight my bait shop guy showed me a 96cm KG whiting !!! I couldn't believe my eyes!! Tight lines!
  3. legal size snapper in the harbour gotta be happy with that mate! good luck with the kings on your next trip!
  4. Wow congrats on the fish! Must be a million dollar lure!
  5. lol.. they actually do use those in fiji slightly bigger and a lot better constructed. They look like a lot of fun to drive.
  6. Hey Pete, I use to use the same concept but a whole lot smaller(20-25L) as a portable live bait bucket on the rocks. What I found use to happen is that even if placed on a flat surface sometimes after a while the bag would just collapse on the edges and you'd have like half a bag of water left. The one's you have look a lot better constructed but it was the same concept. So maybe try it out first for practicality before you actually purchase too many of them. Cheers,

    Finally...

Would love to come down Huey but unfortunately I am yet to get a tow bar put on and still am not confident driving yet(almost got stuck at a car wash around a tight corner with my uncle's car). So it looks like I'm just going to have to find a mobile mechanic in the mean time but I will definately be coming down in the future as I am yet to find any one as knowledgable as you. Thanks again for all your help, Revs went up to 5000 with the beeping and yes after turning the motor off and back on it still was beeping. I am booking a mechanic soon so hopefully there will be good news. BTW nice boat tiger!

    Finally...

Hey Huey, You read my mind I have heard so many bad stories about marine mechanics not completely knowing what they're doing and they end up having more problems with there motors. If only you were closer..! If any one has any suggestions please pm me. In regards to the model number I got it from the metal plate on the outboard and it also has it written down in the book as can be seen below. Model: BJ 50VL31B Serial: G 049669186 Is there somewhere else that I get the model from?

    Finally...

Finally got my boat and just thought I'll post a few pics up of it. We took her for a test run today and I kept hearing this beeping sound and the no oil light was flashing. The oil was just below half. I'm going to get the boat serviced but do you think that it caused any damage?
  10. Looks like a great feed mate! And finally we get to see a dory post.. I'm sure it will make a lovely meal.

    Insurance..?

Hey fellas, I was just wondering who are you insured through and how much are you roughly paying per year?
  12. Hey Reece, I know it may not be the best place in the world to fish for kings but I have seen a few caught at greenwich sailing club during the summer. Very comfortable place to fish as well so give it a shot when the season starts. BTW I have only seen them caught early morning. Anyways good luck!
  13. You could just imagine what would dare have a go at that thing! . . . . " z z z Z Z Z z z z z " Nice catch mate!

    New Boat

Hi, it was a private sale. It's just that it seems a little weird that the motor on the back is a 2000 model, I just don't understand why that would be because according to the seller it was sold as a new package.(he was second owner) Now I'm thinking if I were to buy a new package shouldn't I be getting the same year model motor and boat!?!? Whoa! 16 years? that's excellent. How'd you do that? Regular servicing? Wd-40 after use? The reason why I said I'm also thinking about re-sale is because I plan to keep the boat for a long time(approx 5 years) and by then the motor will be over 10 years old. And general rule of thumb with cars once anything is 10 years old it pretty much becomes worthless. Is this the same with boats? Cheers,

    New Boat

Hey all, I have recently purchased a 2002 stacer 4.5m runabout. Upon inspection I was told by the mechanic that the motor is actually 2000 50hp johnson not a 2002 model as I presumed. Now the seller mentioned that it probably was a 2000 build but they had to import from the states and it was actually sold in 2002. He said he had paperwork to prove but showed me an insurance slip which said the motor was a 2002 which doesn't really mean anything anyway. My concerns are I've now got a motor that's 2 years older than I thought it was and am wondering how does this effect re-sale? Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this?(Is this guy full of sh!t? or is this something that commonly happends?) A compression test was done on the motor and was pretty much an even 130psi. Marine Mechanic told me that it was in good nick so I decided to take the boat. Just wanted to know what your thoughts are on this situation as I still don't know much about boating. Thanks,
  16. Hi, I am thinking of purchasing a boat with a mariner 40 hp 2 stroke on the back. The boat is a Stacer 4.5 aluminum runabout and is max rated at 50hp. Boat weighs approx. 400 odd kilos. I just wanted to know what your thoughts are on mariner outboards? how reliable? common problems? overall build? etc. And also do you think the 40 hp engine is sufficient. I will mainly be fishing the harbour and as far out as the heads. Any help would be greatly appreciated thanks again,
  17. Thanks for all the reply guys, the boat did have a compliance plate it's just that the advertisement stated that it didn't because it was designed for car ads. But thanks again for all the help.
  18. Sorry guys, I should have specified that it is brand new. Does this make a difference? Thanks,
  19. Hey Raiders, I was just wondering if I purchased a boat with no compliance plate how much would it cost for me to get one? and what processes are in place? Any help on this would be greatly appreciated thanks guys,
  20. Hey Raiders, I have recently purchased a Daiwa Saltist 30TH and wanted to hear your recommendations in regards to a rod to suit. I will be using it mostly for live baiting/bait fishing for kings + jews. I am thinking of either a shimano t curve blue water series 7' 10-15kg or a wilson live fibre texalium same specs. I currently own a texalium but in a spin model but havent ever tried a t-curve yet. Any info or other recommendations would be great. =]~ Regards, Wilson
  21. Thanks for all your help guys I really appreciate it, At the moment I think I am going to see what's around and hopefully wait for the right person to sell there boat at the right price. =]~
  22. Hey Raiders, I am only new to boating and am thinking of purchasing my first boat. I just wanted your feedback on when is the best time to get a good deal on a boat? The models I have been looking at are the Stacer 420/445 seahawk/seaway and also the quintrex estuary anglers 420/430. Now I only have limited funds and have heard that boats are a lot cheaper during winter? Just wanted to know if this is true or myth and is it worth waiting? Also are there even a lot of boats for sale in winter? Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks guys,
  23. Hey Roffo, I own both the 6500 and the Big bTR have also got the okuma epix 80(I'm a big fan of baitrunners) and personally i think all of them are great reels. Since you seem to be leading towards the shimano's both the 6500 and big btr have excellent drag systems they are smooth and handle very well. The advantage of the big btr is it's casting abilities and it's also lighter. I believe it also got a few more ball bearings but as I said before both are smooth reels. I purchased my big btr for $219(extremely cheap imo seeing as I was quoted well and above by several tackle shops) and I think they are still for sale at that price if your interested just pm me. Also they have the 6500 for sale for $189 with a 7' catana rod. All in all both are great reels and if it's a baitrunner your after they won't let you down. Regards, Wilson
  24. Hey all, I just wanted some advice about buying a boat. I'm a first boat buyer and am wanting a boat to fish the estuaries(harbour, hawkesbury, botany) and also the heads. I have been looking at the stacer 420 seahawk's and seaway's and they look pretty appealing to me however I don't know too much about them. Does any one have any feedback on these boats? Or any suggestions for any other boats im looking to spend hopefully no more than 10k. I'm looking for something around the 4 meter mark and forward controls. Also is there anything I should look out for when purchasing the boat. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank guys.
