  1. Awesome place, spent many a summer there as a kid, hoping to head down this Xmas.

We used to fish a place that we all called the "secret spot" don't know why we thought it was secret, had a parking area and picnic tables! Basically it was right down stream of the inlet near a few abandoned oyster leases, was a great fishing spot. The inlet as a whole is a good fishing area.

  2. You can't get the states to agree on what time it is, good luck getting them to agree on carp management strategies.

Qld reads that any carp you catch need to be killed immediately and binned away from the water.

Nsw appears to be that it must be killed immediately and then do what you want.

I hear that! I was recently in tweed, try making a dinner reservation! Game of 20 questions! The old iPhone doesn't keep up with the time updates either, had to manually set it. Pain in the rear

  3. Yes but then there's this;

    Report a pest species!

    For recreational fishers:

Don’t transfer fish between waterways – and don’t use live fish as bait in freshwater (it’s illegal!)

Obtain a permit to stock fish – and buy fingerlings from a registered hatchery to minimise the chances of contamination with undesirable species.

Don’t return pest fish to the water – if you catch a pest fish, kill it humanely and dispose of it appropriately away from the water.

Prevent unwanted hitchhikers – check, clean and dry boats, equipment and fishing gear between waterways.

I'm kinda confused. I know it's definitely illigal in QLD and sa, but can't find specifics for NSW. Can't understand how different states may take different approaches to pests like that.

    Qld laws;

This fish is declared noxious in Queensland. It is unlawful to possess noxious fish alive or dead or to use them as bait. It is illegal to place or release noxious fish alive or dead into Queensland waterways. Penalties of up to $200,000 apply.

  4. I did a Facebook page on the entire resto over the two years. Search ANN ELIZABETH- Game Fishing and you should find it.

Wow, I just checked it out. That thing was an absolute wreck when you started! That's a quality restoration! Well done

  5. Someone has to make the call to DPI.

I have fished in Cockle Bay, but it was in the pond outside the old SEGA Centre.15 years ago maybe.

My wife and I were headed for the Aquarium when I saw the signs.

Catch a fish, Win a Rod.

The Scouts had a fundraiser, they stocked the pond with Silver Perch, $10 for 1/2 hr.

I got one, and took the new rod to the Aquarium,

That's gold! I can just imagine the looks you got walking into the aquarium with a fishing rod!

  6. Slinky is spot on, once you own a graphite rod you will never look back, the difference in sensitivity is incredible. Only downside is being a brittle material they are much less forgiving if you get them stuck in car doors or the like...

What to choose depends on your price range. For a cheap set up one of the big tackle stores that sell fishing camping and boating stuff have a shimano sienna matched with a cheap graphite stick (think its called a sonic pro??) that generally goes on sale for around $60 - 70 for the combo. Whack on some 10 to 15 pound braid and away you go. I have three of these outfits now which i bought for guests on my boat and have fished with them myself on everything from bream to dolphin fish to jew and for a cheap all rounder they are brilliant little setups.

    R

I have 2 sonic pros, one with the cazna 2500 and a heavier Rod with the cazna 4000.

I can't fault them, both do exactly what I got them for and come pretty cheap.

The only thing I would suggest with sp fishing is do it light, the lighter the better. Lite line, jig heads and leader will give you more feel. With jig heads, start lite and work your way up if you're not getting to the bottom. Too many fish passed up with people fishing too heavy.

The berkley drop shot is another good rod and will give similar results.

Shimano reels are the best bang for buck in my opinion, the sienna and cazna being my 2 budget picks.

  7. If you combine road and water licenses you will lose both if lose enough points on one

Not convinced of that. It was combined in QLD a few years back, both on different demerit systems. No points on a boat license up here, really at the discretion of the court.

  8. Live beaut beats everything I reckon, all

Lures do is imitate a live bait. What not use the real thing

The reason being, you throw a bait out, you are only covering the one area, with an imitation, you throw it all around the fishing area without harm to the livie. It's all situational and target species.

  9. Little bit of the where's when's and what's. For flathead, bream etc, plastics Outfish bait by a long shot. For whiting, bait only for me. Deep sea, always bait for me. Jewfish, bait for me but getting more common on plastics. Fresh water, lures only for me. Too many variables in the equation to say ones better than the other. What I love about plastics is the by catch and pickers are basically eliminated, giving you a clearer indication of what's in the area, saves a lot of time and wasted bait.

  10. I don't think it's fair to compare what happens here to what happens on facebook.

Example, I posted last week on removing a seat from my tinnie, I received heaps of opinions and even just 10 minutes ago another idea.

Now, had I put it out on facebook, I would have got 3 likes, 4 blokes I haven't seen for 2 years asking "when we going fishing" and mum asking why I'm spending money on the boat and not putting in a pool for the kids.

Leave Facebook where it is, and never ever ever let my wife or mum know I hang out here......!
