  1. Heres a pic I found. It was caught while fly fishing for bream not by me. Cute little critter.

Spot on there mate. That was about the size of this little guy as well. Shocked me when he came up. Thought it was going to be a half decent bream or something.

  2. We got a small jewie a couple of weeks back and it had to be the smallest one iv'e seen.

It went about 30 maybe 35 cm tops. Iv'e got a pickie somewhere that i'll find and post up.

Has anyone else ever got one this small before?

  3. Have heard of some increadible stuff comming out of Manly lagoon some years back. Someone even suggested that a small Queenie came out of there also. Kind of think that was just exagerated from the point of the first few suprise catches.

  4. It's going to the tip mate................ that's where all those SOB send these great fish.........

I don't understand how we are impressed by this old fashioned bullshite. It's as bad as photos of the "proud" hunter and a tiger or lion......

Worse still these assholes Gives fishing a bad rap.... it's a bad as the "necessary" "by catch" of a G.D. trawler OR FINNING.

( sorry... I'll get off my box now .... I forget it's good fun)

    Agreed!

  5. I really hate Pittwater at the moment. It hurts me to say it to. As a place that i grew up fishing for so many years it's gone from awsome to awfull.

The pros have obliterated the place.

At least in a few years we won't have to worry about the pros any more, cause there won't be any fish to catch either.

  6. Good on ya donnie. My wife got a jew the first time she ever came out to target one.

Do your homework beforehand mate and you may just come up trumps. Even if it's your first time targeting these fish, be prepared. Last thing you want is to hook one un-expectedly and loose it from not being ready.

    Good luck mate.

  7. Dont buy Okuma

Iv'e got quite a few Okumas in my reel collection and so far they have been really good for the money. But i'm always interested to hear feedback from other fishos. Dredded Eel have you had some problems with Okuma ?

  8. totally Agree with the raiders on the shimanos for the quallity. If you don't quite have the bucks to spend on one, could also possibly suggest an Okuma EFS20/30 epix. Not quite the quality of shimano but still for 150-160$ gets you good line capacity, nice size and a 6.2.1 retrieve to belt it in when the pelagics are about.

  9. Got my self one of those Celilos in a 6' 1 piece. So far it has been awsome. beautiful action from the top that doesn't taper fast then holt all of a sudden. Nice guides, light weight. Held on to some surprising fish with it as well. So far love it.

Wondering if anyone else has had good performance from these things or am i going to have a trip where this rod goes all pear shaped all of a sudden?

  10. g'day marlin madness,

I had the pleasure of fishing Tasmania about 2 years ago. There for the trout maily so didn't get a lot of time in the saltier stuff. On the eastern side in Hobart, I didn't get to fish the main waterway there but did speak to some locals at a servo near the river. He rekoned the main wall off the main road on the way to or from the airport just before getting into Hobart city is the spot for the bream and plenty of flatties. He said that the flatties were not that big but there was enough of them to keep you happy. Got to fish Strawn on the west which ok with a few cocky salmon. But up into Launceston was pretty good. There is good water about 30 - 40 mins drive north east of here that was great. If you head towards the Seahorse nursery, there is a big jetty there that you can park your car right off and fish deep clean water. If you have a car it doesn't take very long to get anywhere down there and a few hours each way saw us between Launceston and Hobart. Wish I would help you more there mate. Hope you have a good one and post some top picks of the belter bream you get.

    cheers

  11. Hi Mondo how are you mate. Awsome to hear of the new boat comming. I love those things. You'll have to let us know how it is. As for the questions mate, i'm no amazing boat pro, and i'd welcomely accept any suggestions from more experienced boaties on this site. Being a local fisher or Pitty/broken bay/cowan/hawks. iv'e gone with the following proceedures.

    • How far away from other boats is acceptable? - I'd say no one likes to be fished on top of. Especially if they were there first. (hard on weekends sometimes). You can feel if you are too close. I'm not good at geussing meters so i'd say 7 - 10 trailer boat lengths away. Maybe more, depends on the spot. If there is a bubbling school on the surface then it may be a little different. Just don't come buring up and put the school down.

    • Where should I position my boat in relation to other boats already anchored? - for this i'd say in a position so as the current if any doesn't push or pull your rigs into theirs. Tangles suck when the fish are on for someone.

    • Are there any rules around how I set my anchor, e.g. noise and/or type? There are a few reefs around. Need a reef pick. The sand anchors are heavy big wedges and can both get stuck on the reef easily, and also damage reefs. Anchor a small distance up the current and then drift or reverse the boat back a little before tying off. This helps the boat from bobbing up and down so much with bigger swells as the anchor rope bobs it down again. if the anchor isn't dragging trough delicate reef, even better.

    • What is the etiquette where a boat nearby has hooked onto a monster? - Give em' room to fight the beast. Offer any assistance if needed, or just keep an eye out to see if they need any in the process. If you are comming in to help, and the fish starts to run at your boat, cut the motor.

    • Is excessive noise etc considered a no-no or does nobody really care?- I think it's nice to keep distance and noise down with motors when other boats are around a fishing spot. The fish are too wary already.

Sorry about the essay mate. Hope these can help and am sure other more experienced boaties have a lot more to add. see you out there.

  12. :1welcomeani:

welcome aboard mate. Great to hear you getting into one of the greatest passtimes of all. Everyone is pretty friendly on this site, and tons of great info and advice shared by all. Cheers

  13. Hi mate,

Iv'e never fished up that far up before so can't help you there. Got a few small hammerhead/bonnet heads up towards the back of broken bay to a little over a meter. But the water looks deep enough and water currents look good throughout cowan so i can't see why they wouldn't go up there.

  14. So exactly what worked for you in the end? Where were you fishing?

    Peter

    Hi Peter,

The corn kernels where the ones that did the trick in Canberra. But funny enough, a little bit of bread berley brought them around. I berleyed with both but they didn't know the corn was there until they came for the bread, then all they wanted was the corn. The first two where the best. Sight fished'em from the shore. simple sinker rig for them, but the other two where taken on a float with about a 70cm drop. Early arvo, they wanted the sinker rig ( squidgy head believe it or not) but later they wanted the float.
