Spot on there mate. That was about the size of this little guy as well. Shocked me when he came up. Thought it was going to be a half decent bream or something.
  2. We got a small jewie a couple of weeks back and it had to be the smallest one iv'e seen. It went about 30 maybe 35 cm tops. Iv'e got a pickie somewhere that i'll find and post up. Has anyone else ever got one this small before?
  3. at that size it would probably think about taking a bite out of the jewie I think in South Africa they have them as well and call them "Elf"
  4. Have heard of some increadible stuff comming out of Manly lagoon some years back. Someone even suggested that a small Queenie came out of there also. Kind of think that was just exagerated from the point of the first few suprise catches.
  5. Large Scaled Grinner. This pic is off the net. Caught 2 in Pittwaterabout a year ago. In winter as well.
  6. Are they protected species or just terrible eating ?
  7. I really hate Pittwater at the moment. It hurts me to say it to. As a place that i grew up fishing for so many years it's gone from awsome to awfull. The pros have obliterated the place. At least in a few years we won't have to worry about the pros any more, cause there won't be any fish to catch either.
  8. Agreed. Also if the camera has some manual features. It can make a whole lot of difference to the pic. Basic knoledge and use of Apature, iso and shutter speed can go a long way for the finished image. cheers

Good on ya donnie. My wife got a jew the first time she ever came out to target one. Do your homework beforehand mate and you may just come up trumps. Even if it's your first time targeting these fish, be prepared. Last thing you want is to hook one un-expectedly and loose it from not being ready. Good luck mate.

    Okuma Reels

Iv'e got quite a few Okumas in my reel collection and so far they have been really good for the money. But i'm always interested to hear feedback from other fishos. Dredded Eel have you had some problems with Okuma ?
  11. this place sounds great for land based stuff. Is there a limit as to how far you can go up the jetty or is it all access
  12. totally Agree with the raiders on the shimanos for the quallity. If you don't quite have the bucks to spend on one, could also possibly suggest an Okuma EFS20/30 epix. Not quite the quality of shimano but still for 150-160$ gets you good line capacity, nice size and a 6.2.1 retrieve to belt it in when the pelagics are about.
  13. Got my self one of those Celilos in a 6' 1 piece. So far it has been awsome. beautiful action from the top that doesn't taper fast then holt all of a sudden. Nice guides, light weight. Held on to some surprising fish with it as well. So far love it. Wondering if anyone else has had good performance from these things or am i going to have a trip where this rod goes all pear shaped all of a sudden?
  14. g'day marlin madness, I had the pleasure of fishing Tasmania about 2 years ago. There for the trout maily so didn't get a lot of time in the saltier stuff. On the eastern side in Hobart, I didn't get to fish the main waterway there but did speak to some locals at a servo near the river. He rekoned the main wall off the main road on the way to or from the airport just before getting into Hobart city is the spot for the bream and plenty of flatties. He said that the flatties were not that big but there was enough of them to keep you happy. Got to fish Strawn on the west which ok with a few cocky salmon. But up into Launceston was pretty good. There is good water about 30 - 40 mins drive north east of here that was great. If you head towards the Seahorse nursery, there is a big jetty there that you can park your car right off and fish deep clean water. If you have a car it doesn't take very long to get anywhere down there and a few hours each way saw us between Launceston and Hobart. Wish I would help you more there mate. Hope you have a good one and post some top picks of the belter bream you get. cheers
