  1. Great report, you really brained them. I'll have to check out those Wake Bait lures.
  2. It's taken me a while to post this report. From my blurred festive season memory I think it was the 28th of Dec, I fished the banks of the Manning River upstream from Mount George from about 6.30 am till 9. I fished the banks so I get get to some pools upstream of some rapids that canoes cannot get up. I think this strategy paid off as the lower pool seemed to be flogged a bit over Christmas, I managed to get 3 good fish and a few small ones in the pools above the rapids.
  3. Howdy, It's been great reading all the recent bass reports, they've really inspired me to get off my arse and try out lures which I continue to horde, anyway thanks fellas here is my report from the Manning River. 13/11/12 - Hot day, 3pm knocked off work and drove up the river. As this was my first time out in the canoe for the season I had some real bad F'ups, getting tangled in snags and dragged into branches by the wind. Anyway it wasn't long before I hooked up to a couple of little fellas on a plastic vibe. Later in the afternoon a thunderstorm started rolling in over the ranges, the surface action started to heat up, bass were boofing all over the place. I had a few hits and misses I couldn't decide where to throw as the fish were hitting the surface all around me. I threw a shocking cast down the bank which got caught up on a branch of a snag, I put my rod down to paddle out and on free my line, then boom my motionless lure was hit on the surface. I ended up landing a nice ~ 400mm which made my afternoon. Looks like it's gonna be a good season with lower rainfall than last, can't wait for the cicadas to start chirping!
  4. Seems like GW will have its advantages, therefore i refuse to pay the carbon tax, time to break out the barra gear next time i hit botany. Nah seriously sounds good, there might be some truth to the theory that water temps are a month or so behind air temps.
  5. Yeah it was just a water dragon, I could have picked him up but I know they've got a good set of claws so didn't risk it. The Collo runs into the Hawkesbury at Portland, you can access it via the Putty Rd north of Windsor. Next time I head up that way I might try the lower reaches, in the brackish water, might be able to find some bream.
  6. G'day raiders, I headed up the Colo early Australia day, checked my almanac before going, said the fishing would be poor so my expectations weren't high, its always good to explore new areas though. The river was clear and shallow with sand banks for much of the way, I started by throwing poppers and quickly landed a few tiny bass, I dropped a good fish, yelled a quick expletive but was happy with the excitement of the surface action. I passed a couple of fellow yakers who had been up even earlier and were already headed back, they reckoned there were plenty of fish further up stream so I pushed on. The water was so shallow in sections I had to pull the kayak which made it slow going. Anyway I got a few Km up and found a nice section with plenty of snags. The bass were attacking my poppers in a frenzy, I'd never seen 3 or 4 bass going after the same lure, reminded me of Mangrove Jack.
  7. Wow, sounds like you've been slaying it. I've been sussing out Botany over the summer in my yak, only got two rats so far but alot of fun with bonnies and tailor always around. Thanks for the report.
