  3. caught this malso onster on the weekend on a live yakka n 10/0 hook.... biggest one ive ever seen caught! it was 83cms not sure about the weight i really need to invest in some scales haha anyone wanna have a guess as to how much it weighs?
  4. hahahaha now people are wanting to know where i caught this beauty! its not where u think boys..... and ludrick i was using 40lb trace but was getting busted off! so decided to go heavier to stop this... thanks for all the comments really appreciate all of them
  5. thanks spizza! all the advise n tips u and a few others on here gave me really helped me catch my first jew so cheers for the help buddy... ur a champion
  6. sorry macmac!i was using 12 foot beach rod...running ball sinker to swivel... shimano 6500 bait runner... 30lb mono mainline... 100lb jinkai trance... 1 x 10/0 gamakatsu octopus hook!
  7. thanks boys! yea it was funny we were meant to fish curl curl beach but the conditions were to bad but we were still keen to fish as we had livies onboard with us... so we headed to another spot just to wet a line and chuck out a livie not expecting anything! next minute zzzzzzzzz then zzzzzzzzzzzzz then zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz she was off! was fairly easy to bring in and turned belly up straight away! was expecting a bit more of a fight... i had no scales to weigh it but i reckon it was about 7 or 8 kgs n about n about 85 to 95 cm not 100% tho....
  8. accidently put the same pic up twice! here is the otherone i meant to upload.....
  9. went fishing the north shore with a few mates over the weekend! caught a few yakkas n hoiked them out.... a few hours later n a few bait changes i managed to pull in my first jewie! cant beat the feeling u get when u hear that spool screaming, pick the rod up, set the hooks n reel these beautys in! i was hooked on jew fishing before i caught my first one but now im obsessed... cant beat it!
  10. mate best thing to do is while ur away go to ur closest wharf or jetty! buy a bait jig from the tackle store or use a little hook with tiny pieces of chicken, pilly or prawn! take some bread for bearly n catch ur own live yakkas or tailor... cant beat freshly caught bait for jews!
  11. yea we tried looking for gutters/holes earlier when we first got down there but the beach is massive! yea i was thinking bigger pyramid sinker so we could get out n over past where the waves were breaking... i think the ones we bought were to small! what size u reckon we should buy?
  12. hey guys! me and a mate headed to north narrabeen beach tonight with livies n squid to try n catch a jewie! it was our first time beach fishing... so we got down there at about 8pm as high tide was at 9pm... we chucked out as far as we could using our 3.7m rods with a pyramid sinker attached but 2 mins later both of our lines were pulled to the left back towards the shoreline! i thought once u chucked out as far as u could u could just chuck ur rod in ur holder n sit n wait for some action! instead i was holding my rod the whole time, reeling in every few minutes as our lines were way left and to close to shore... could i get some help, advise or any tips for a keen first timer? any advise or tips would be much appreciated as it did not deter me in anyway it just made me wanna learn more
  13. hey robofish! mate ur a dead set champion... thanks heaps for ur help! ill give that a go n see how she goes
  14. hey robofish! thanks for the reply... well i just bought 30lb line so how do u work out how tight or loose to have ur drag? i will be mainly fishing for jews or if a kingy or big flatty pass by that would be also good! so if a fish takes the bait n runs with it if i strike or flick the switch back like how do i set the hooks? cheers
  15. im buying a shimano baitrunner 6500 on thursday and am only used to using the standard egg beater reels! so im not sure how to set if up or how to use it yet eg drag or how the baitrunner works! any help or info on this would be much appreciated...
