  1. Hi all,

I have a friend in the Campbelltown area that would like to take her son for a quick, easy fish. I suggested to start off in one of the local ponds as it should be easy and fun.

My question is.. does anyone know of a pond in the Narellan area where she might be able to go?

    Thanks

  2. Mate i dont know if you need a permit or not to be honest but i have mates who run charters out of Sydney and put up quite a few fads each year and dont grab a permit and do fine.

Also the placement of the fad is researched throughly so we reduce the chance of other boaters finding it, we check all Shipping channels, Known waypoints offshore and routes to those waypoints offshore and then place the fad in an isolated location.

Obviously the fad will always be found by people but we try and reduce it as much as we can.

If it is illegal well shit happens, wont stop me from doing it...... I still speed in my car knowing its illegal, I do burn outs in my car knowing its illegal, I jaywalk knowing its illegal etc.....shit if i stopped doing everything illegal i would have a boring life...

    Well said!!

  3. Don't you need a permit for placing the FAD?

I was under the impression you needed a permit to place one otherwise it was illegal even though a lot of people do it, and I hope you didnt put it in either the southern or northern Sydney submarine cable protection zones or you could get in major strife

Only asking cause I don't want to see a raider get in trouble :)

Does anyone know the law about this? and if so what the construction and anchoring requirements of the FAD is?

By the way mate those are some beautiful dollies you have there

FAD??? What FAD??? What are you talking about?? They were just three buoys floating in the ocean LMAO!!!!!!

  4. A japanese connection is so cool! It probably send me broke in no time .I Didnt get a chance to head up to the northern islands of japan this time round.

Im goin to do one last stop when i get back to tokyo and buy extra squid jigs and lures with the loose change i hopefully have left on the last day.

Just out of curiosity what are Miya Epoch x8's worth over there mate?

  5. Use housebricks with the holes in them. Have a dropper on your line at say 20lb and tie the brick through the hole. When u make bottom yank it and it should break the bricks off. Make sure your dropper is long for numerous drops so you can re tie and make sure you use braid as mono has too much stretch and the line won't breakat the bricks. I would even use a 15lb dropper. I don't think the bricks hurt the ocean either it probably if anything will make a home for something. Cheers Andrew.

Have you tried this or is it in theory? I think 20lb would probably wear through on the way down. I would like a line to get me down there and hold on for 10 or so minutes and then snap off so as to hold the bait in the "zone" for a while.

  6. I was just wondering if anyone ever fishes with bricks setup on a breakaway system. I was thinking of tying 2 or 3 commons together and then attaching them directly with mono. My theory is thay the sharp edges of the bricks will wear through the mono and they will just fall to the bottom. The only thing I have to figure out is what strength line to tie the sinkers on with to get them down and hold on for 10 or 15 min (enough time to complete a drift) and then snap off.

Does anyone do anything like this? Any thoughts on whether the idea might work by people who fish the mountain would be greatly appretiated

  7. Mate im confused as to how you know that the line snapped at the swivel if you got spooled

If I have b^llsed up on how I have read your report, pls 4give me. :biggrin2:

    cheers

I am assuming his spool was empty and when he finally went tight with no drag/line left the fish snapped off. He probably recovered all his line to the swivel,

  8. I am planning on going for a fish on Friday and i am keen to hook up to one of these big sharks that are swimming around. I was planning on using a live salmon or tailor for bait but i was wondering where my best chance would be of hooking one? Any help or recent sightings would be greatly appretiated.

  9. I know that big tiger sharks can be targeted out of Sydney but i don't think mako's are as regular as the other sharks that visit.

You can definitely target small sharks in the harbour around easter with a good fleshy bait at Dobroyd head.

    Josh

I have caught my fair share of sharks in the past but that Mako really got me fired up. For me fishing is all about setting and achieving goals and it is always so much more satisfying doing it in my own boat even though i regularly fish in friends boats that are much bigger and "better" than mine. I hope to land one from my boat before years end so any help would be greatly appretiated as i really only get to fish once a fortnight or so
