  1. Finding it tough to pick a rod to match with my new Sustain. Looking for something to fish bait with from my tinnie in estuary and bay situations. Have upgraded from a Sienna 4000 and bushy bait legend Snapper 742. Up to around the $300 mark. Specific model recommendations would really help. Thanks.
  2. Petzl tikka are an awesome lamp, low and high 'beam' plastic sliding diffuser, decent batteries last okay
  3. Might be a dodgy grounding, although this will usually result in no noise (nothing)when you turn the key, maybe you have ground but not a good one. If your cranking battery is okay, as you say, you are providing a better ground when you connect the jumper cables. Check that the area where your black cable is screwed to something metal on the boat
  4. Maybe you could modify a cb radio mike holder or something similar. Just need to find something with some sort of corrosion resistance
  5. I have a lowrance elite 4 combo on mine. Not a bad unit but still learning it.
  6. One of my kids got a 56 flattie, me and the other one nothing. Fished over near Towra, Taylor were and absolute menace there, I lost at least five soft plastics jig head and all.
  7. Putting it in a 40hp tiller steer 4.2m tinny
  8. Just wondering what sort of electrical setups people are running on 12v motors. I'm in the process of wiring up for a new motor. Using 80A 8B&S, a battery isolator switch, Anderson plug connection to motor with a 50A circuit breaker in the line. Is this a similar setup to what others are using? First electric just an elcheapo bow mount but would like the wiring to be top notch for when I can afford the 'rolls-royce'
  9. So humans aren't the only things that Gatorade can rehydrate? What gave you that idea? Seems a bit left field.
  10. I suffered back pain from the age of 18 until I was 41. No major structural damage, a couple of bulging discs, muscle spasms, and nerve pain, debilitating at times and going out on a boat would mess me up for weeks. I bought a book called whartons back book, and started doing the stretches in it, after a month or two my back got a lot better, started running and doing weights again no back trouble for the last three years. Stretching the hamstrings, quads, hip abductors and adductors, psoas, groin and glutes ( all the muscles through the upper legs, pelvis and lower back) has worked wonders for me. If I feel pain coming on I get straight into the stretches. Losing a few kgs and stretching are a must provided you haven't got major structural damage
  11. Was there today, you shouldn't have too much trouble, we got 20 odd fish but only 4 legal, a few different species too, very small snapper, bream , whiting, flathead, Taylor and a blue swimmer. My young fella got a nice fat 46 cm flattie on prawn, I got three around the 40 mark on blades. Couple of really good hits on plastics but couldn't set the hook, we fished just inside the main lake. Fantastic weather, don't forget the sunscreen!!
  12. Always seem to get good size flattie when fishing Botany Bay
  13. Older engines and e10 don't mix, you'll most likely have to replace your fuel lines with with new stuff that can take e10, old rubber lines that are already degraded will be affected by the ethanol in the e10, as will rubber and cork seals, and some carburetor components. It sounds like you might also have spark probs on one side, which will need to be investigated further, the fact that it runs ok sometimes indicates fuel prob, electrical problems tend not to be intermittent. Get rid of e10, replace rubber fuel lines and get your carbies serviced. The fact that you thought it might be flooding, might be a needle sticking?
  14. Had a similar thing happen to me on the crook haven, massive croc swum up after a 40 cm model
  15. There is an australian maker of spinners that sell buzzbaits, they are available on line
  16. I fish the upper nepean regularly, I was out about three weeks ago just doing a reccy (of a little shore based spot) and it appears that the river even in the upper reaches has had a good flush over the winter, nowhere near as much rubbish and debris even up to about ten to fifteen feet above the water line the undergrowth has been thinned out. Bass seem to love purple, I always fish purple skirted spinners with some good success
  17. I just got mine. Online boat safety course $12', knowledge test local motor registry$30 per attempt.. You also have to do a log book with 3 outings and discuss issues and do a couple of safety drills as part of the log book. I was lucky as I have been going out regularly with a mate who helped me with all the practical stuff. All up cost was about $ 180 for a three year licence. Your practical supervisor has to have held his/her licence for three years. Obviously if you don't have anyone with a boat & licence one of the schools would be great, in all honesty if you had no experience boating I would go for that, would be well worth the outlay in the end
  18. I fish the upper reaches regularly and it is full of bass up as far as Maldon Weir. I had a two hour session, just prior to dusk, not so long ago off the bank bringing in 8 bass, on Auspin lures with purple skirts but regularly catch 3 or 4 in a session nearly always b/w 30-40 cm. The Nepean goes off especially from a canoe or kayak.
